They meet again, and they play some sport's, bonding further.

Then Hugo takes Alita to the church, which is semi important to have regarding the manga.

The movie is based off the first two volume's of the manga the 1st volume relies extremely heavily on Hugo being a character and basically revolves around Alita him and only a very small proportion around "grewishka" makaku, stop being stupid and trying to over criticize the movie.

This is a lie. Every arc and characterization in the movie comes from the first volume. Motorball is used only in a cursory, cosmetic fashion, to replace the throwaway gladiator battles from the first volume of the manga.

You make this excuse to justify how rushed the movie was, but the fact is, the movie barely has more actual content than the OVA, despite being 60 minutes longer than the OVA. The extra 60 minutes amounting to nothing but filler.
