How does Yea Forums feel about HBO's Rome?
How does Yea Forums feel about HBO's Rome?
had it moments, rather historically accurate, some of the sets were very cool, not all that kino tho
Good when it was a pulpy sword-and-sandal genre series. Shit when it tried to be Serious Drama.
One of my all time favorite shows. They were actually talking about making a movie based on the show at one point.
Downloaded it, watched the first episode, dropped it halfway through the second episode and deleted it. Didn't do anything for me.
>rather historically accurate
>octavian's first wife in the show is livia
>brutus mentions "birthday cake"
Lmao, fuck off
Still miles better than G*Tshite
Mark Antony is based until the last ep and Pullo is probably the biggest Chad of tv
Are you sure?
Lucius Vorenus and Titus Pullo is the greatest onscreen bromance ever and everything to do with them is great
Young Octavian is based as fuck and old Octavian is uninteresting
Ciarin Hinds is really not a good actor HE WAS A CONSUL OF ROME but his corny overacting is kinda fun in this
Posca and to a lesser extent Timon are absolutely based
In general it's fucking great. Doesn't really lose anything for not having big set piece battles. Infact it's almost better that it doesn't.
I would completely agree with you, but
>Ciarin Hinds is really not a good actor
Wrong.
1st season was amazing, like better then what people pretended GOT was. 2nd was meh but had some great moments.
HE WUZ A KANG OF ROME
I dunno who played Cicero, but although he had a really pretty minor role, the actor really did him justice.
Probably one of the most enjoyable "historical" dramas ever made
This
>the actor really did him justice.
IRL Cicero was an absolute chad, not some cowardly pushover.
But his actor was really good, though.
Irl cicero I always thought of as like Rome's Rand Paul. A sort of cucky but intelligent moderate that reddit would love.
Romans did serve cakes at birthdays, why complain about historical inaccuracies if you don't know what you're talking about?
Watching it for a 2nd time right now.
Probably the only show to do "ancient morality" right
It's great. Season 1 is top tier kino. Season 2 is rushed and distinctly lower quality, but it's still a lot better than how GoT ended up being.l
>Octavius and Octavia incest
>Octavia scissors Brutus' mother
>Caesarion is Cleopatra's only child, the three children she gave to Anthony are completely absent
>Caesar's Civil War that took four years is condensed into a single season, and half of that is pointless sex scenes in Rome
season 1 was great
season 2 was average
What of good Cossutius?
>>Octavius and Octavia incest
I doon't remember that in the show. Did it really happen irl?
if it had been allowed a couple more seasons, would've been the greatest show of all time
Absolutely beautiful costumes and sets, too bad most of you niggers watch 720p yify rips and other streaming quality trash on a poorly calibrated 15' lcd screen, you miss the best part.
Great show overall, rewatching it now after a few years, too bad Spartacus beaners ruined the threads with their underage retardation and reddit memes in the meantime
Also who was Best Girl, and why was it Octavia?
Yeah sure, we can confidently say who slept with who 2000 years after the fact, that's archeology for you
Of course not you dumb nigger, that's romanticization and artistic license just like the whole Attia/Servilia conflict and a ton of other things in the show
Which doesn't make it bad nor nonsensical no matter what the wikipedia historians roaming Yea Forums will tell you
The Chad Augustus
That's not incest
we love it, newfag
>the three children she gave to Anthony are completely absent
Nope, they're in the show briefly.
>Octavia scissors Brutus' mother
Hot.
>Octavius and Octavia incest
HAWT!
>they start frantically kissing and fucking literally 5 seconds later
>not incest
god i wish i was octavian
Post that then, bc I have no memory of that happening.
That first episode, the scene where Atia is in the bath naked and Octavian is being a perv was hot.
>No mention of Mark Anthony.
Plebasaurus Rex
How does OP feel about being a filthy newfag?
>too bad most of you niggers watch 720p yify rips
Actually bought the Blu Ray set a few months ago, was indeed a worthy purchase.
It's literally that very scene right after the webm ends, it's in episode 9 I watched it fucking yesterday, not on my computer so can't make a webm but it's literally right after that you double fucking nigger
Fucking google it, it's most likely on youtube
It happens, just trust us it happens.
Every single penny made it on the screen.
If GoT didn't get as popular as it did it wouldn't been cancelled just the same.
racist, not enough blacks like in rome
Hinds was the second best actor on the show behind Purefoy.
I mean, those years were so eventful that each phrase would translate to ten-hour season each:
>Season 1, 49 BC:
>Begins little before Crossing of the Rubicon
>Caesar goes to fight Optimates in Hispania
>B plot about Gaius Scribonius Curio losing to Optimates in Africa and committing suicide for it
>End in Caesar returning to Rome and being appointed a dictator
>Season 2, 48 BC:
>Begin two months later
>Caesar lands in Albania
>Mid season finale: Battle of Dyrrhachium
>Pentultimate episode: Battle of Pharsalus
>Final: Caesar learns about Pompey's murder
>Season 3, 48–47 BC
>Begins Caesar arriving in Egypt, cue Siege of Alexandria
>Mid-season final: Battle of the Nile
>Final: Caesar deals with Pontus in Battle of Zela
>Season 4, 47–46 BC
>Caesar deals with mutiny and leaves to fight in Africa
>Final: Battle of Thapsus
>Season 5, 46–46 BC
>Caesar goes finish Optimates in Spain
>Pentultimate episode: End of Labienus in Battle of Munda
>Final: Ides of March
That's a cute ducker
HOLY SHIT WHAT? I guess it goes to show Octavian and his family drama was the weak point of the show if I forget something like this while I can remember Pullo and Vorenus talking about what stars are with perfect clarity.
This guy gets it
What kind of meme-addled wreck could watch the scene where Caesar receives the head of his old friend bitterly turned mortal enemy and think 'lmao overreacting xd', if not for years of spamming a catchphrase
Genuinely moving scene with perfect delivery from Ciaran Hinds
YES
pls stop it hurts
Actually the show creators had intended for the series to be at least 5 seasons long or something like that. The reason season 2 felt so crammed is they got the news that it was gonna be cut halfway through production so about halfway through the season everything is sped up a bunch.
It's a great scene moron, you just want to fuck your sister so your subconscious blocked it out
Don't @ me
Sucks it didn't last long enough to get to the parts where Rome just kept spitting out ever worsening monster emperors.
If seeing him opposite Jared Harris in The Terror didn't make this apparent, then you've got no appreciation for acting and can be entertained by the craft equivalent of having keys jangled in front of your face.
Can you imagine him carrying a show/movie? He's just a meme character actor. Just not interesting enough to ever be a lead. Doesn't have any range either.
eheheheheh
>seeing him opposite Jared Harris in The Terror didn't make this apparen
No it didn't you meme-spouting bandwagoning faggot, if it did you would be able to explain why
But you can't, and you won't, just like the countless retards who tout this stupid shit since the terror aired and yet can't explain anything about acting without babbling meaningless shit full of empty buzzwords
kys dumb poser
Kino
Some of the best TV bromances of all time
Not quite. Into the 1800s or so, people thought Cicero was a chad and the embodiment of virtus. However, the latter view that you're describing started to come in around that time - that for his oratory skills, Cicero was a broadly ineffective politician.
The TV show tries, and I would say succeeds, in balancing those two views of Cicero.
considering that they found about the cancellation after they had done half of season two, they were always going to summarize whole Caesar's Civil War in the first season.
Considering the speed they were going, the season five would have probably ended with Nero's suicide or something
And what of good Solonius?
It is difficult to explain why a painting or a performance or any piece of art is 'good'.
If he is so good, why has he been solely relegated to identical character roles ?
Episode 9 directed by a gay polish jew son of a literal oven dodger.
user is right, guy was a crap caesar
followed by an even longer series' about the events leading up to Augustus
No one is saying he's the greatest actor in the world. But in this show I thought he did a great job. He dominated almost every scene he was in. He had the Caesarian presence. I mean he's probably most known for this role.
You are the worst kind of pseud user.
You abuse your freedoms. You complain in the safety of speculation, you claim foresight in matters you obviously don't know anything about and you are weak in your argumentation because your authoritative phrasing gives you privacy and deference. You've made yourself miserable, and distant, and hard to love.
I'm not the shitposter you are user, never will be. But you will never be fit for movie critique. And as your contradictor, I take some responsibility for that. For the vanity of your outlook. I should have curbed these tendencies, rather than contradict them, because you seem to have confused my contradiction with tolerance, but there is a limit to how much I can tolerate, and that is where we are presently standing!
based good Solonius poster
making your posts pompous sounding and difficult to read makes you sound stupid not smart user.
>i-it's difficult to explain okay? But you should know good acting when you see it, it's like obvious
Jared Harris is definitely overrated, guy can't convey any emotion
I can't explain why either so I must be right
Literally the best casting that could be made for the character.
I genuinely don't understand your fucking shit. The guy eats every scene he's in with his presence, great voice, great attitude, perfectlyalternating suave and calm seduction of his rivals and paws with bouts of voluntarily exaggerated emotions in speeches, while keeping genuine parts of repressed anger where the mask slips.
Not that you fine noblemen could be able to fucking notice it, you'd miss good acting if it was repeatedly hammering you empty head as long as nobody shitposts about it on your favorite mongolian weaving forum.
>Ten season series covering his journey from Ides of March to defeat over Mark Anthony, 45–30
>Followed up by spin-off of Germanicus, grandson of Mark Anthony and father of Caligula, featuring in old Octavianus and Tiberius as tertiary characters
some hot red head pussy (Tavi's Mom and sister)
and Cleo is hot as fuck
worth watching
Actually I heard it was going to end with the death of christ or something like that.
lmaoing @ ur life, don't utter an opinion regarding Ciaran Hinds and Jared Harris ever again
Based.
At some point I've got to buy Rome and Deadwood on Blu Ray.
it's not good acting, it's just acting
the 'nuances' that you think are brilliant are as overt and skill less as possible
a child would pick everything up from a ciren hinds preformance
>still no argument except 'it's bad okay?'
I fucking hate 'arguing' with 12 years old. You don't know shit about acting, so don't bring skill into the discussion if you're unable to explain what it is.
What i'm saying is that it's not that we aren't noticing what he's doing with his performance, or that he's not doing anything, but that it's blatantly obvious what he is doing and that there's no real nuance or subtleties.
And if he does have such amazing presence and you find him so interesting to watch, he's clearly got clout in the industry because he gets cast in big drama series, so why has he never had a lead role of note?
>I fucking hate 'arguing' with 12 years old.
hol up , is english not your first language?
that would explain all this
First season was kinda okay, second season GoT-tier awful
What is it about the term "birthday cake" you're too stupid to grasp?
They served cake at a lot of things, that doesn't mean the term "birthday cake" existed, or that Brutus would even say that during a battle.
>they served cakes on birthday but they sure as hell didn't have a work to describe birthday cakes
What the fuck am I reading
Of course they did you utter moron
>nuance or subtly in acting is when you don't understand what the actor is doing
wat
this is your brain on contrarianism
As for the second part of your post, if the movie and television industry had any lick of sense, I think we'd know about it
Rome would have been a 12 seasons epic with no end in sight still ongoing to this day.
I've thought about your post for a little over a couple minutes now, and I genuinely don't understand your point.
It's stupid and serves little purpose, wherein every sex scene in Spartacus is a part of the plot
Torrents?
great start and then rushed
had to the potential to be sopranos tier if HBO only gave it more time and moeny
There wasn't much to show after Octavian was left alone. With more seasons maybe they wouldn't rush through Actium and other important moments. And with title like Rome maybe there could be a time skip to another big crysis.
@118333420
>the sex scene with the most plot implications after Pullo railing Cleo and Servilia kissing Octavia has no purpose
Spartniggers pls go
>y-yes they did you m-moron
and naturally, you can't back it up with facts. Way to expose yourself as the idiot you are.
pleb
BEST TV SHOW EVER
I usually tell spoonfed mongoloids who can't use a search engine to go fuck themselves, but I only ever found a good quality release on a French semi-private tracker so here you go www2.yggtorrent.ch
You need an account, but it's open registration
If you want heavily compressed trash for your laptop and third world internet, it's on public trackers so find it yourself.
Rome's based as fuck, no show's come close to it yet
>thing exist
>but they dont' have a word for it
Was apparently specifically called a placenta but your reasoning is so fucking retarded I'm left dumbfounded by this exchange.
Please refrain from having children and consider suicide.
How does Rome compare with I, Claudius?
Pretty well I think
and Brutus literally says "birthday cake", which is historically inaccurate.
I can tell you're mentally ill, but do try to calm down. It's not my fault you're stupid.
Why was I just looking for this today
It's a good prequel to I CLAVDIVS.
Brutus speaks in English, which is historically inaccurate.
And Brutus is speaking English and not Latin because the show is written in mother fucking english you absolute retard
Are you seriously unironically that fucking autistically stunted or are you pretending to be retarded in a post-ironic neo-humor attempt?
Thank you, user
I think it was a good show. Sets and filming locations looked awesome.
Lucius Vorenus and Titus Pullo were probably the best part of it. Great bromance between those two.
Can't help but feel like the writers took a look at the two and thought "You know, these two remind me of Timon and Pumbaa, let's put in a scene where they're talking about what stars are."
Look at how grumpy you are, idiot. Speaking english does not mean they should use english terminology. They don't call cesars kings, and they shouldn't use the term "birthday cake".
Looking forward to your next sperg, my mentally ill friend.
They don't give anybody the title of "Caesar" in Rome.
>look at me making false equivalencies
Rome specifically didn't have a fucking King since the ousted Tarquin the proud you utter fucking mongoloid
Caesar is a fucking name in the show, not a fucking title yet, it only becomes a title under Augustus, if you don't understand such a simple concept how are you able to breathe
There is nothing healthier than anger when faced with an absolute mongoloid, so don't be surprised if you get insulted for your stupidity and obvious mental instability.
I don't see the point in answering any further to your next insane post, mental ward patients like you shouldn't have access to the internet in the first place.
>Speaking english does not mean they should use english terminology.
It does for the same reason that they speak english you dimwit, so they don't have to constantly stop everything they're doing to explain terminology to the audience, or inelegantly express everything in literal, robotic terms
Calm down idiot. You forgot to take your ritalin.
The term "birthday cake" is still stupid, and wasn't coined until like the 15th century. No amount of stupidity and anger from you will change that.
>look mommy I read wikipedia
Are you seriously suggesting that it took until the 15th century for someone to call a cake served on a birthday a 'birthday cake' for the very first time in existence?
You're not really that stupid, right?
You've got no evidence to the contrary, my stupid little idiot. They certainly didn't use the term in the period Rome was set.
And you've provided absolutely no evidence pointing to the opposite of this self-obvious fact, or why 'birthday cake' would be a bad translation for placenta, meaning a cake served on a birthday in ancient Rome, so go fuck yourself, my quite obviously heavily autistic friend.
>They certainly didn't use the term in the period Rome was set.
>there is a word in Latin for 'birthday cake'
>but the word doesn't exist
I really don't have the words to describe such stupidity.
I like how easy it is to invoke the rage of morons like yourself, wrapped right around my finger.
Sorry, but it still sounds idiotic for Brutus to utter that term right before a battle. Stick to terminology appropriate for the setting. I don't expect a braindead moron like you to grasp that.
typical midwit response. google dunning-kruger my friend
>there is a word in Latin for 'birthday cake'
>birthday cake
No there wasn't, idiot.
You seem to rely on google a lot. Maybe you should read a book? Or is that too much for your tiny brain?
>hi I'm autistic and i don't accept the fact that a word describing a cake served exclusively on a birthday means 'birthday cake'
lmao, must suck being retarded
yikes, weak deflect
>it still sounds idiotic for Brutus to utter that term right before a battle.
Why would the fact that they are right before a battle means that he would have to use another term to describe a birthday cake?
Look at how mad you are. It's not my fault you're idiotic enough to believe a show about rome should include modern terminology.
lmao you really don't want to lose face over saying retarded shit do you?
don't worry, you already have but nobody gives a fuck about you anyway
>birthday cake is now modern terminology
you know at first I was actually a bit pissed, but you're actually way too funny for that
Part of translating from Latin into English involves translating the Latin terminology into English terminology, no?
>nobody
I always love it when idiots like yourself have to appeal to others when you're struggling in an argument.
Just swallow your pride and move on. There's no latin word for "birthday cake" and use of the term at all is unfitting. The fact that you've sperged this much about it tells me you have some serious mental issues.
>you know at first I was actually a bit pissed
Knowing just how deranged you are, that's hardly a surprise.
Birthday cake is 100% modern relative to the old roman days. Nothing you say will change that, my idiotic friend.
>I can't take the bants and I take everything literally, then proceed to call everyone disagreeing with my obviously retarded point mentally ill
Congratulations, you have low-functionning autism, keep melting down lol
>all these retards getting baited so easily over a cake
Never change, Yea Forums.
>I can't prove my retarded point but I keep on hammering it

Are you saying... THE CAKE IS A LIE??? XDDD
I'm just correctly highlighting your stupidity and you're sperging like the sperg you are. Not my fault you're dumb enough to believe Romans had terminology specifically for "birthday cake".
Retardation isn't bait, it's retardation
>roman had a word for cakes they serve on birthday because they serve cakes on birthday
>NOOOOOOOL IT'S NOT A BIRTHDAY CAKE WIKIPEDIA TOLD ME IT'S THE 15TH CENTURY
lmao
No, you're obviously being baited.
>roman had a word for cakes they serve on birthday
Idiot.
>some retard says stupid shit
>it's stupid shit, fuck off
>LMAO BAITED
I don't think you understand what this means
CACK
>still no argument
Still a complete idiot, clearly.
Rome did not have a word for "birthday cake", but you're too far in to swallow your pride now. Keep going little piggy.
Prove they didn't.
upvoted
They had a word for cake, and they had a word for birthday. Why would they not combine them together for a cake which is served on birthdays?
Prove it, provide sources.
They had a cake called placenta, specifically served on birthdays. Prove that this cake doesn't qualify as a birthday cake and prove that the translation is inadequate otherwise shut the fuck up.
>Prove it, provide sources.
>They had a cake called placenta
Notice how you first tell me to prove something, before making a mindless, unsourced claim yourself. You really are the definition of a hypocrite and an idiot.
season 1 of Rome is by far the best TV that has ever been made
also
>SIT DOWN
is even better than CONSUL OF ROME
>I can't use google to check easily verifiable facts, please do my job for me and provide everything
lmao nope, bye
Google again? How braindead idiotic and worthless are you exactly?
Telling someone to use Google is not evidence, idiot. You either provide it, or remain stupid the rest of your life.
>I can't use google to check if this indeed exists, that means I'm right birthday cakes don't exist at all
You're too much man lmao
You're trying to shift the burden of proof on others when you're the one who made the false claim to begin with. You're a complete idiot, sorry.
Sneed
haha keep bashing the retard for my amusement.
GOAT show, shits on any other HBO show
The sex scenes in Spartacus ARE the plot.
HE WAS A CONSUL OF ROME
You're still mad? To the point you're pretending to be an observer? Could you be any more of an idiot?
>still posting
Sad!
True patrician kino
if you are the one being defensive over the alleged misuse of birthday cake, then the idiot is you.
was he though, gaius?
I just watched it for the senatorial shenanigans
I watched this show so many times, I'm so sad they never got to do more with it. Can Spartacus fill the void the republic has left in my heart?
You're STILL hung up? You are such a complete idiot it's funny.
you are the one hung up to the point of making up that i'm pretending to be somebody else, if i got your theory right. you were really hurt I guess.
>you are the one hung up to the point of making up that i'm pretending to be somebody else
and I'm bang on correct.
I know idiots like yourself all too well. You're highly insecure about your intelligence to the point you can't let go when someone dare insults it. I have you wrapped around my finger and there's nothing your autistic little brain can do about it.
Birthday cake is a term that should never be used in a show like Rome, even when they're speaking english. This will always be true, and it will always hurt you.
I think he's kinda overrated and annoying too. Don't really see his Caesar doing what Caesar did in Alesia or other battles.
Dinner with Octavian was the most kino experience I've seen.
I WANT TO BE LIKE MARC ANTHONIUS
>That sexual tension between Anthony and augustus.
Go on, strike me.
Absolutely not but it's a lot of fun.

no, it's shit

How does The Borgias compare to Rome? Better? Worse?
Worse, but it's worth it for Jeremy Irons alone. Also if you like historical drama it's worth a watch.
Besides I, Claudius and Rome, are there any other great shows about ancient rome?
Thermae Romae, but the manga is better.
>but the manga is better.
Fuck off weeb
Words fall from mouth like shit from ass.

I have never in my life been so horny to hatefuck someone as with this girl. Fucking gorgeous
Well written but more than that, well acted. Purefoy, Stevenson, and McKidd are great
Started watching it a couple months ago, I thought it was alright, but found it dragged a little bit. So I ended up dropping it after the eight episode once work started picking up again.
Its really different. I like the first season and as this dude said, Jeremy Irons is absolutely on point

OP Magnus! I have a question concerning your friend and coposter the darling of Reddit, Gaius Anonymous Faegot. Why does his head remain empty? Why does he not go home? His illegal memery is over. Yea Forums is long since on it's knees. Why does user keep us brave posters from our XIII and memes? For the entire long summer he has gauged himself like a wolf on the (you)'s of bait and thereby made himself monstrously rich. WHY?
Why does he ply them off with racebaiting and capeshit and gaudy Star Wars threads? Why has he given (you)s to every reprobate fool in this /ROME/ thread? WHY?
I tell you why he does these things. He wants to buy himself a Yea Forums pass! He wants to destroy /ROME/ and rule Yea Forums as a bloody Mod! THAT'S WHY!
Therefore I move that user's post is deleted immediately, that his IP is banned and he be recalled to /ROME/ to answer charges of illegal memery, shitposting, faggotry and being a cuckold!
I, Claudius is definitely better, you just have to get used to the production values of a play.
Lol was looking for this shit. Thanks mang.
>OP still hasn't responded to these charges
absolutely despicable
Only based Anthony posters can be called patricians itt.
the show got significantly worse when they introduced adult octavian and the new actor suddenly played him with full on aspergers.
Also the constant close up shots on his expressionless face during conversations we're unbelievably irritating
forgot pic of the culprit
I liked nu-Octavian better, but I also hate child actors with a passion. Still, I think he did a great job and would liked to have seen more of him. He was very menacing in a quiet sort of way.
>Slavery, is it?
Great scene.
