In Gattaca, Eugene kills himself

In Gattaca, Eugene kills himself.
Why? What's the point? He's more use to Vincent alive. He never actually endangered Vincent in any way, and in fact did the opposite by being there for a moment when he got his dna tested by someone who wasn't covering for him the whole time.

bump for actually interesting queston

He won silver right? He thought he was inferior because he still lost despite being bred to perfect

Here's another one for ya:
>Isn't there another way?
>Surgerie's no good, they'll see the scars. It's contact lenses or a white cane.
So they'll see scars from surgery on his eyes, but they won't see contact lenses?

+>Point of film is that bad genes and shit family inheritance doesn't have to make you an inferior
>Inherits Olympic Swimmer's legs to beat Brother and be 6+ feet
They really missed the fucking mark, acting was good though

Yeah, that's why he jumped in front of a car.
But why roast himself at the end? Vincent lent him his dream.

wasn't he sick and going to die a painful death?

I ain't watched the movie in ten years

Inherits?

*uses Olympic Swimmer's legs to beat Brother in swimming
You get the point

he was no longer a use for Vincent - they made it clear in space they don't test

no, he was perfectly healthy (aside from the cripple part)
it was more a commentary about how societal expectations based on genetics can destroy a person

Didn't he already beat him when they were kids?

What about when he came back?
Besides, does his life have no value? Did he have nothing to live for?
If the brother wanted he could've gotten the same surgery and gotten longer legs than Vincent. Why didn't he?

Vincent's entire goal was to get to space. Pretty sure he didn't give a fuck about what happened when he came back.
And in his mind no, his life no longer has any value

Plus going to Titan sounds like a one way trip

>>Inherits Olympic Swimmer's legs
What? The point was that he had heart disease. He also explains that the only reason he could swim farther than his brother is because he didn't save energy for the swim back.

for a movie that came out in 1998, this film got a shit ton right:
>plug in cars
>solar farms
>genetic testing

>Besides, does his life have no value? Did he have nothing to live for?
He spent his days trapped indoors reading and getting violently drunk (to the point of self-harm). Did you... watch the film?

Future tech contacts

>He spent his days trapped indoors reading and getting violently drunk (to the point of self-harm). Did you... watch the film?
Literally me except replace reading with shitposting.

they became super connected so vincents mission became his. so when vincent made it to space his part of the mission or whatever was complete. he wasnt necessary anymore since once he got back to earth he could come clean and change the world since vince proved everyone wrong

Based fucking Lamar

Suicidally depressed. He helped Vincent and that was enough for him.

Jude Law is great at playing the nihilist

He reminds me of myself

haha stupid old movie, Olympic swimmings power comes from their back

>you will never have beach CGI sex with Uma Thurman

I think after helping Vincent he realized there is nothing in life left for him but aging and becoming even more bitter and useless individual. So he decided to end it on a high note, as high as it was possible for a broken man who had it all at one point of his life and lost it.

/this. he was depressed and wanted to die

For all those people interested, this surgery actually exists today.

It existed then too, they did it the way you see in the movie with external shit like in , now it's internal. Too bad they didn't get that right To get to space just once? He also has to come back and fuck Irene's pussy raw with his big beautiful untermensch cock (unless the doc is a bad judge of cock aesthetics). After that he'd probably want to go into space again and continue his whole thing. Eugene did leave him all that blood, piss, and other crap, enough for a lifetime he said. A lifetime, not just one trip.
Why? They board the ship and launch wearing regular clothing sitting in a circle, doesn't seem like it's that rough a ride.
He seemed in better shape than when he and Vincent met, wouldn't you agree? They went out to restaurants where he was known, a real nice place.
Come clean and get kicked out you mean. What was the lifetime supply of blood and piss for?
Vincent's dream and the chasing of it was inspirational though, he lent him his dream, why wouldn't that give him a new desire for life? At the very least he could still hang out and enjoy his life, go around to restaurants and clubs, read, and above all be a friend to Vincent, Eugene being one of the few people in his life that knows his secret. He was the brother Vincent never had, someone who supported him and his dream.
Going crisp mode was a bitch move.

Vincent is living through him, so he doesn't have much use and is more of a liability because he can still be found out while he was still alive.
Also, there seems to be some sadness in him after Vincent, through all his faults and imperfections still managed to reach his dream, while he purposely did nothing in life even though he had been bred for 'perfection'.

He was always suicidal, that's why he got hurt, he was trying to kill himself. He found meaning and happiness with Vincent for a while but he returned to where he was when Vincent leaves, his goals achieved. That was my interpretation.
