>Fake Live-Action and a PC Agenda Ruin the New Lion King
>Everybody already knows that Disney’s new remake of The Lion King is a sham; that its “live-action” selling point misrepresents the fact that the real-looking animals are actually digitally generated images. Only the casual acceptance of this blatant deception is new.
>Parents are expected to induct children into the process of mindless consumer gratitude. Knowing you’re being rooked is part of the fun, which gives new meaning to Mufasa teaching his cub Simba to appreciate his role in the never-changing production-purchase cycle — called “The Circle of Life” in the highly merchandized Oscar-nominated theme song.

>What the 1994 cartoon treated as cute satire — in the song “Hakuna Matata” sung by warthog Pumbaa and meerkat Timon — rings hollow in this new version where those creatures possess ugliness rather than charm and promote special-group interest. None of this can be defended as a trendy political allegory as some reviewers contend. Besides, the underlying praise of monarchy is always a problem for fashionable, egalitarian, supposedly woke Afrocentricity.
>Disney’s blatant cultural agenda explains the disaster of The Lion King. We can clarify the film’s deception by highlighting its production-purchase cycle and recognizing the unmistakable — not coincidental — political objectives of the filmmakers. This is how it works. It’s a Dishonor Roll:
>Jon Favreau (Director): After turning Marvel’s Iron Man to visual dung, he is now Disney’s fake-reality hack and is key to understanding how this digitally rejiggered Lion King (like Favreau’s Jungle Book) continues the con job of Marvel’s Black Panther. Favreau’s unnamed African veldt might as well be New Wakanda.
Except he hasn't said anything different. Lion King had generally bad reviews, why isn't he sucking it off?
Contrary to popular belief he is not a contrarian. His favourite films are great classic films from Antonioni, Mizoguchi etc.
Because he’s actually not a contrarian like you redditors think he is. I don’t agree with all his reviews(TWBB, J&J), but he always tries to look at a film as objectively as possible. No one analyzes art better than he does
>Donald Glover (Simba): His dubious street cred as rapper Childish Gambino distorts the film’s bildungsroman concept, as he sells a CGI version of his ghetto-pathology TV series Atlanta.
>John Oliver (Zazu): HBO’s political “comic” becomes the herald of Pride Rock; he controls the film’s narrative.
>Seth Rogen (Pumbaa): Channels his dirtbag shtick into the warthog who sings the “no worries” theme song “Hakuna Matata,” a nihilist philosophy.
>Keegan-Michael Key (Kamari) and Eric André (Azizi): These peanut-gallery TV comics serve as Scar’s Spotted Hyenas henchmen, Antifa-in-waiting
>which gives new meaning to Mufasa teaching his cub Simba to appreciate his role in the never-changing production-purchase cycle — called “The Circle of Life” in the highly merchandized Oscar-nominated theme song.
I wish my writing were this kino. Imagine if I could BTFO shitters on Yea Forums with arguments like these.
>Beyoncé Knowles-Carter (Nala): Not just Simba’s love interest but the era’s leading purveyor of Afrocentric kitsch. As the film’s cultural linchpin, she accuses Simba, “You don’t even know who you are!” Her rhythmic diction on “You’re not the Simba I remember” is pure Destiny’s Child. And during the live-action uprising, her call “Are you with me, lions!” awakens the Beyhive. It is the Disney corporation’s single most calculated moment since buying the Star Wars franchise.
>Biblical and Shakespearean archetypes are trivialized by the new Disney. Its style of fake realism prevents one from imaginatively projecting onto the animation.
>When Simba comes into his own and must defend his tribe against his scheming uncle Scar and the menacing, invasive Hyenas, there’s no emotional power. The Lion King’s parallels to the historical lessons of Greek mythology or fairy-tale morality just feel like vague memories.

Hi, reddit
Based and redpilled, fuck Disney
You know this guy is considered a laugh stock, right?
based king of the blacks
For once I actually agree with him
I never realized the Lion King cast was so black.
Fuck disney
the fuck have they done to "Be Prepared"?
They butchered it. Like, with the amount of PC stuff, they'd have no problem making scar hitler literally and have the hyenas goose step and shit
i hate nu-disney.
>NOOOOO!!!! HE DOESN'T LIKE MY FAVORITE CAPESHIT MOVIES!!!!! *sniff*
armond haters in a nutshell.
Any grasp at straws of this movie set in Africa being "too PC" is not even close to the problem.
The problem is a shot for shot remake that is worse than the original at anything resembling heart. I thought beauty and the beast was bad but at least that tried to change some character motivations and expand on some lore (and I hated that movie) this one is just that much worse.
of course this namefag hates Armond
>soulless moneygrubbing remakes are terrible

Yeah this new afropunk/afrocentrist push from hollywood is kind of weird.
It's like europeans would start to believe their own fairytales, only this time they are force fed this bullshit by megacorporations.
You burgers love to burn money. Why don't you finance some school trips to real africa iinstead of painting it as the lanf of the future through msm bullshit?
It has nothing to do with that. He makes everything political and always defends movies by Adam Sandler but hates on classics like Toy Story 3 and Fight Club and The Dark Knight. Most people in the comments agree and so did Roger Ebert
There is a certain level of remake I will tolerate. But this is on the level of that fucking Psycho remake
>there are people in this thread who don’t know the real Armond White is in the black lodge and this is just a doppelgänger
>Most people in the comments agree and so did Roger Ebert
oh no, shills agree.
Those movies are garbage and he's right.

Absolutely based.
Most people agree he's a troll. C'mon you know it's fishy how he praises shit like Dawn of the Dead remake but then calls The Lion King remake or the IT remake soulless. He likes Snyder because he's conservative and will hate on Disney or Stephen King cause they lean left. When will you admit Armond is predictable
see
Probably because Dawn of the Dead was made by a real director
>he makes everything political
The fucking irony. Lets not even consider movies now adding political messages or undertones at all. Nah. Lets totally forget how many movies now are promoted for their "diversity" and poltical "wokeness"
Seething youtubers lmao kys
what pisses me off about armand is not his opinions. I can wrap my head around his idiosyncratic taste. I'm constantly touting National Lampoon's Senior Trip as an underrated masterpiece. Some trash resonates with people.
But I hate his National Review trying-to-be-intellectual gobbledygook. It's trying to be accepted by leftist elites rather than trying to connect with the general public and convince people of the superiority of conservative ideas. Speak English instead of speaking New Yorker.
I thought the movie was really great. Looked fantastic, had really gripping scenes and despite the director asking for more realistic animal emotions/interactions it didn't hinder the movie too much. The lion king has already been redone in media of different mediums and this has its own place..
I particularly thought zazoo and Shenzi were very cool.

These "YouTubers" make more money, have more subs, and are well received by people. When you spend your career praising Sandler and Synder, then also claim Tarantino and the MCU and Nolan have ruined cinema then yeah people think you're full of shit
So Armond doesn't like it, Kermode doesn't like it and even that Stuckmann faggot doesn't like it.
Does anyone like it?
>appealing to popularity this badly
Tarantino, MCU and Nolan DID ruin cinema and that can be backed up unlike Snyder "wahh he ruined batman :("
yikes
Most people. General audiances and film buffs.
>Tarantino inspired nihilistic teens to make edgy disjointed films with no purpose other than to look cool and his cynical outlook infected all of film since then
>MCU made vapid assembly line films acceptable in the critical circle and has eradicated all competition
>Nolan took all the fun out of blockbusters by appealing to pseud Redditors
but oh no, Sandler has fart jokes.
Disney’s whole legacy in animation is creating countless cinematic masterpieces. They’ve also already made three Toy Story movies that are all damn near perfect. Toy Story 3 was even nominated for Best Picture. And the fact that they’ve only made four of them over 24 years, this one coming 9 years after the last one, certainly implies that they are only interested in making them if they can live up to that lineage.
Toy Story: 100%
Toy Story 2: 100%
Toy Story 3: 98%
Toy Story 4: 98%
Of course, it could still change but just look at that consistency. This is fantastic. It’s like the greatest movie quadrilogy of all time. I can’t think of any other that made it this high.
>noooooooooooooo don’t insult my capeshit

>The Christopher Nolan Batman movies are not exactly life affirming, so why do pundits refuse to connect those films to last week's Aurora, Colorado, massacre at the midnight showing of Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises? Instead, the problem of the films themselves has been swept away by a torrent of political distraction over gun control. After this clash of cinema and reality, have we forgotten that culture either dooms or defines us? Over-smart responses to the shooting resemble the mindless state of most contemporary cultural commentary. It takes escapism?whether in movies or journalism?to a maniacal extreme by uniformly ignoring the causal relationship between the Christopher Nolan franchise and the murderous actions of James Egan Holmes (12 deaths and 70 injured persons) whose disguise resembled the role that Heath Ledger played in 2008's The Dark Knight; even referring to himself as Ledger's character, The Joker.
>Holmes' joke made the connection plain. Yet, standard-setting media consistently ignores the effect of movie content and idly promotes film as product. In the case of The Dark Knight Rises, confusion began with Roger Ebert's misleading reaction in a New York Times Op-Ed on July 20. Evincing sociological and cultural denial, Ebert turned "I'm not sure there is an easy link between movies and gun violence" into a meme for his followers. Once again, tolerance for movies without substance or morality bled into social discourse. Another publication defended Nolan's franchise, claiming Holmes "was not driven by those movies to slaughter? His actions needed no model in a fictional monster." But facts, such as Holmes' guise and diabolical plotting, prove the exact opposite.

>Disney’s whole legacy in animation is creating countless cinematic masterpieces.
That's a fucking lie.
If you were talking about Walt Disney the individual that'd be true, but since he died the only thing the company has been good at is marketing themselves to make people think they're the greatest even though they lost their touch. Oscars and shill critic aggregations don't validate shit.
Because he's not contrarian and never has been, that's just a marvelcuck anti/tv/ shill narrative
Anyone who isn't a mindless sycophant is a contrarian to you people. Armond has well-defined standards for judging art, and for the most part, he has a great disdain for commercial schlock designed to make as much money as possible (especially pandering crap).
but he's right in that case, DotD remake was bretty good and the other two are inferior versions of originals

Pretty sure they are dude.
Tarantino and Nolan are fine but the MCU is bottom of the barrel trash and everyone who knows ANYTHING about cinema agrees. Armond is hardly contrarian in that regard
that's fukken based.
>because the people who are pushing this have skin that's the same color as white people.

Tarantino stands for everything Yea Forums loves but you hypocrites hate him because he got popular

But then you so many threads are made saying "based Zahler" when he is just a discount Tarantino
Also, Nolan has great cinematography. Inception and Dunkirk and Interstellar look stunning but yet he gets shit on
And the MCU has problems but it mostly good than bad
Based quads has spoken
If this guy thinks the movie caused the massacre, he's a dumbass. It's not the means, or the venue, its the perpetrator who decides.
Don't criticize The Lion King or Tarantino for being nihilistic and soulless when you visit Yea Forums which is very nihilistic. I like this place for memes but even I have self awareness
>shitnight
>toy cashin 3
>classics
is that you Armond?
Adam Sandler movies are usually competent so not much issue there.
Toy Story 3 I'm guessing his issue is with the emotional gravity being placed on the children's movie characters, kinda age issue there.
With the Dark Knight, there were a lot of problems. Heath Ledger did a nice job, but outside of him you had the silly shit like the cell phones letting you see into everything everywhere and Two Face just not having much purpose for even being there.
Armond does have some retarded criticisms at times, but is pretty great for giving a different perspective on how to look at a lot of movies given 90% of film critics are ridiculously far left.
only the /r9k/ rejects that post here are nihilistic.
Actual Yea Forums culture is more campy (i.e. Tuxedo Pepe, Sneedposting)

that's irrelevant, you have to see his recent favorites.
>reducing thought-out reviews to HE LIKES X BETTER THAN Y
Does anyone remember that Armond hated Drive and Only God Forgives but liked The Neon Demon? He said Refn doesn't understand how to make masculine characters
>Ryan Gosling plays DiCaprio to Nicolas Winding Refn’s Scorsese–acting out an adolescent idea of manliness in Drive and now Only God Forgives. But sulky Gosling lacks DiCaprio’s hammy brio just as Refn lacks Scorsese’s flamboyance, so he mopes and broods; practicing a weak swagger amidst Refn’s brutal, grotesque, nihilistic stagings
Depalma, Godard, Zahler
No problem here.
If you read any of his reviews you'd realize that's one of his MOs
Reductive again. That academic film expertise from watching Toy Story 3 is really paying off isn't it?
First off: Stuckmann is a Channel Awesome kiss ass. so his opinions are out the window for me.
second off: He gave it a C which means he thought it was average. not that he hated it. get your fuckign facts straight and site some better critics and not channel awesome trash.
Yes, apparently a lot of people do

So you've never actually read his reviews, right? Every single one has at least 3 comparisons tossed in. Sometimes they don't even make sense, like how he compared Suicide Squad to the 300 sequel.

Why are people ITT defending Sandler movies? They are the lowest form of 'comedy' there is, are as formulatic and repetitive as MCU films, and they always have that Rob schneider motherfucker in them. I fucking hate rob schneider so much.
