It was the last of the films made at the time in the same line as Hercules, Emperor's New Groove and Atlantis but Disney suits actively tried to kill the 2d departments as too costly since pixar did all the work and more.
Treasure Planet was allowed to be made but released with as much sabotage as possible from within, like not advertising it, releasing it at the worst possible time and only on few theatres, only to be crucified as an example to discourage other aspiring 2d animators

I've always had soft spot for Treasure Island and its various incarnations. The same story in a sci-fi setting is fucking brilliant. I had annoying over protective parents especially about what I watched as kid. Treasure Island was probably the most action or violence that deemed accepted for them little eyes. I think this could actually be good, will it? fuck no.

Treasure Planet and Atlantis are the only ones that actually deserve a live-action remake, mostly because they aren't constrained by musical numbers so theres a lot more plot and action pushed through. Same reason why Mulan can work as a chinese action film.

They also both have certain things they can clearly improve with just plot tweaks to instantly become better.

It actually innovated in a lot of ways. Disney knew that if they wanted to make 2D films that looked as good or better than TP they'd have to invest a ton of money, and 2D animation just couldn't pump out quality products like Pixar and Dreamworks were with 3D.

I know Disney has proven to be huge fucks with live action but he has a point. I wanted to see exactly these Atlantis and Treasure planet remade, no doubt there's potential to fuck it up but we can't just go "REMAKE BAD REMAKE BAD" now.

Even if it had great actors, great props, effects and costumes, even if the script was intact or even improved, none of those things that will happen, it wouldn't justify making something written to be animated turned to live action

It's because treasure planet and Atlantis, if it's done well, have actual potential as live action movies. As the other user said they also have room for playing with the source material without butchering it.
Me personally I just always thought they'd be the only imaginable and neat products if they were live action even as a kid. The scenarios, scenery, creature design and gimmicks would all be interesting to look at irl. Just a man-child dream of mine, nothing more.
We know they'll most likely butcher it in some way, but mindlessly going "REMAKE BAD" with such little reasons such as "it WILL suck, all remakes suck because board said so" just sounds stupid Yea Forums hive minding to me. Can understand you don't see it as a necessary Remake, I unironically like the idea tho, but I am a bit cynical too, just not as much.
