Damn shame too because visually and the action scenes were fucking top notch. It was great seeing all the shit they got away with for a PG13 movie just because they were androids.

It was an earnest try, but the dialogue was terrible, the script was messy. The world didn't feel desolate and horrible enough compared to the manga, all of the background characters looked like they were going to six-flags. The violence, while they pushed that PG-13 rating hard, should have been way more over the top and gruesome (in a campy way). The romance wasn't necessarily a bad central hook, but the actor wasn't cast well. Felt like a disney channel star.

I still enjoyed it though, the fights were Kino and Alita herself was surprisingly great. I still think the eyes were unnecessary, but for what it's wroth they really pulled it off, so I commend them for that.

I hope for a sequel, just with someone else writing the script.

There’s no limits to foreign cursing in American movies. It’s pretty common for for chinks, slants, spics, niggers, jews, etc to rattle off every curse word in their gutterspeak lexicon in even PG movies. Because no one cares what subhumans have to say.

Also the mpaa is very lenient on violence. Making the characters mostly robots just extends that leeway.
