Any movie with a black lead is iceskating uphill in this era, because everybody's so used to black leads being just gimmick casting to artificially turn horrible trash movies into "cultural milestones". However, once somebody actually bit the bullet and watched it, I think people would forgive it fast. Snipes in his prime has genuine charisma that's fun to watch, action scenes are good, there's zero racebaiting in the movie and most importantly they didn't take a white character and turn him black. Vampires don't symbolize white people or Trump voters or anything like that, they're just vampires, and Blade stabs them because that's what you do with vampires. Its total lack of pretense makes it feel almost artistic in these days when even the most trite trash has to pretend to mean something.

For me to review BLADE 2, it is a major conflict of interest, because Guillermo Del Toro and I are brothers. His father says so. His wife believes this. Black Panther is the biggest, most cynical racebait ever. Of course Yea Forums hates it. The fact that it's faithful to the source material doesn't absolve it when the source material is already hardcore racebait. The whole reason nobody complains about Blade is because race plays no part in the movie OR its promotion.

The story is that it was something Snipes said offhand during a production meeting, and for whatever reason the director really latched onto it and demanded that it's the punchline of the whole movie. And Snipes was trying to talk him out of it, because the line was just some dumb shit he came up with and really wasn't that great, but he'd have none of it.

Oh, they're definitely going to reboot Blade at some point in the post-Endgame MCU. They'll cast some mediocre rapper with charisma of a vomit bucket as the lead.
