I will defend Spider-Man 3 til my dying breath. But all the news footage during the climax - and using news footage as a narrative device in general - is so fucking flat and lazy. You can tell Raimi got his second unit to set up a cheat newsroom studio and shoot that shit in one afternoon. The male newscaster is a goofy old man with a wonky eye, and his co-anchor is a ditzy blonde they scooped off a California street five minutes before shooting. Every time the movie cuts to them, it sucks the emotion and momentum from what's actually happening with the characters we know. The whole climax in general reeks of Sony/Avi Arad's big kielbasa fingers smearing grease on the picture, but that godawful news footage is the pinnacle of shitty storytelling and condescending your audience.

Great flick otherwise though.

It’s never been a bad film. The hate boner it got online for years was ridiculous. Overall it’s a decent but very messy film. Sony forced Venom on Raimi and then went back on the original plan to make it a 2 part film. If Venom was saved for the fourth film, I guarantee this film would’ve been much better.

The final battle is one of the worst in capeshit history. So clunky and weird because the participants’ powers don’t synchronize well. But I blame Sony for forcing Raimi to include Venom.

Holland is a great Spider-Man, he’s a better actor than Garfield and on par or better than Maguire in many respects. I’ve been over al, this shit before though, I don’t get the rage when both the Raimi trilogy and the MCU Spider-Man films and appearances In Avengers are joyous things. I just like Spider-Man.
