Love TTOI. Only Brit-com that tops it is Peep Show.

most bong humor is pretty cringeworthy 2bh

Linehan is insufferable but fuck me that episode was good

It keeps happening.

Worth watching for Malcolm alone

On that note, Veep (the American adaptation) suffers for the lack of a discernable Malcolm type character. Still funny, but the closest you really get to Malcolm is a supporting character who only shows up now and then and doesn't really have the same manic energy.

>Peep Show
Peep Show is not that good and gets worse as it goes on. The Thick of It maintained it's high quality for the entire run

the way its shot is pretty awful too, almost generic kooky american show tier, TTOI is so fly on the wall its beautiful and I don't know of any show shot in a similar way

>Malcolm type character
Malcolm was a based on Alastair Campbell and other spin doctors unique to the British system and the Blairites. You wouldn't get that in the Veep's office because there's an element of genuine deterrence to the executive office in America

Out of curiosity, who are you considering as the supporting character that was like Malcolm? Jeff Kane?

My biggest problem with Veep was they made her President way too fast, the final 5 seasons are all just really repeats of themselves.

is TTOI only something that'd be understood by brits?

Yanks can't get that fly on the wall look right even when the cameras are part of the show. Parks & Recreation and The Office US are the worst offenders, they use the talking head moments far too often and there are too many cameras to keep cutting to/from.

The Royle Family is anther great example of that style of filming.

>118219430
I'm (118219430) australian but watched mostly british comedies so probably

Shut up nigger. This is one of the funniest episodes of TV ever created.

Decided to give Fleabag a go based on a few reviews calling it the standout show of the late 2010s, best thing on TV etc.

I lasted 45 seconds before turning it off. Nothing says lazy screenwriting quite like having the main character turn to the camera and describe her feelings. Wannabe edgy dialogue about anal sex. And a look at random hookup culture written by someone who seems unfamiliar with human beings.

At least I gave Rick and Morty three episodes before realizing it was trash.

Roger Furlong.

I agree they made her president too fast, although her being president also brought some new scenarios that were fun to watch into the mix.

It all went to shit after Ianucci stepped down, though. The last season was such a disappointment.

No but understanding the political and hierarchical nature British politics and how abhorrent it is having a Malcolm-like figure being so powerful does help

what about the language, arent there too many specifics or weird jargon
thanks m8

>Roger Furlong
The relationship between anyone and the VP is far too different from the relationship Malcolm had with any Thick of It characters, let alone a congressman

come on i want a go

That show stinks and that nigger with the shit hair is not funny.

>graham linehan
>british

Well, I didn't say it was a 1:1 parallel, just the closest thing you get.

Meant for

But unironically that's the point of Peep Show, anyway.

I get what you mean. I'm saying that a Malcolm type can't exist in a Veep's office so trying to find or wanting a Malcolm type is pointless.

Are you having a laugh?
"Me ligs don't work had" me in stitches bruv, you're off your head mate.

I do like how Veep ups the incompetence and has Selina Meyer constantly being sent into fits of hysteria over her staff.

What I liked about the last series is the ramping up of the dark satire, although the writing became far too politically biased

Her being Veep and later President really allowed them to go to extremes for dark humour and consequences of their incompetence.

>Only Brit-com that tops it is Peep Show.

In the 21st century I hope you mean. Neither The IT Crowd nor Peep Show are even in the top 20 British comedy shows of all time.

>no one talking about Black Books
>in fucking Yea Forums

Disappointed.

That started almost 20 years ago, anything before 2005 the zoomers on here will mostly dismiss.

That *was* extremely fucking annoying. I wanted to belt Roy in the mouth the first time he said it in that noncy-arsed whimper, not just in the successive instances.
(Always liked The IT Crowd otherwise.)

perhaps (just perhaps, user) it's a smidge highbrow for them. that's right, fucking black books

red dwarf is literally the single best sitcom there is

Blackadder

Red Dwarf

Pretty sure Linehan has some kind of mental illness that has advanced with age.

>The Mighty Boosh
