Do people even care about The Terminator as a franchise? I really like the first movie and think 2 is about as good of a sequel as you could ask for, but I don't know anyone who cared about or enjoyed anything after. I guess it has name recognition but I should be the person that it resonates with and it definitely doesn't.

That'd be like outlawing engines. AI is just too valuable and alluring. It's going to show up eventually even if it's not for a thousand years, especially if you've got a future AI trying to ensure its own birth. You need a solution where both sides are in equilibrium, no AI trying to kill the people that stop it existing, no humans trying to kill it before it's born.
