Film school was never really necessary and it's even less necessary now with digital equipment, online distribution, and the endless amount of available tutorials and books that you can download.

Networking and meeting people is important, yes, but college is really not the best place for that. You want to go somewhere where circumstances have already filtered out the lazy, the unmotivated, those who lack imagination and creativity, and so on. You don't want to work with students.

I'm a turbochad with I wanna say SOME talent and I got shot down for three whole years until I got two cameos in a SAG film, at which point I was eligible for a membership but had to pay like 2500$ or sth. Not to mention I've barely been able to make a living out of acting alone.
Making it big in this industry is a hassle akin to becoming a president.
Just go to college and get a real career.

Where the fuck are you at that it costs THAT much? I'm going to a film school and it costs £9k a year for 3 years. You genuinely can "just" film stuff. Write some scripts, storyboard some shit, and hit up people on social media sites asking for actors. I don't get how a person doesn't have access to facebook or craigslist or something but browses Yea Forums?

Surely if you're that serious about learning about filmmaking you'd give whatever you can a try to pursue your dream? Or do you just think you'd be really good at making them even though you've never even tried. I was like that and am now realising you can't bullshit your way through making films and need to put genuine effort and time into practicing how to make them with the knowledge that there's an unbelievably slim chance I'll ever make a career out of what I truly want to do. It sucks, but that's life and I'm not even going to begin to feel bad about it because everybody feels like they're going nowhere eventually. Get the fuck over yourself and just TRY making a movie and see if it's something you can't live without doing for the rest of your life. THEN try making a career out of it.

Cuba has one of the best film schools in America and the whole program cost less than any program in the US

I do a lot of movie extra work and always wonder how all those behind the scene crew members got their jobs. There's literally hundreds of them on every production and they all look constantly busy. I guess I could ask one of them next time but extras are kind of looked down on and bothering anybody but PA's is a good way to not get called back.

Just learn how to shoot things, make some short movies on youtube, and then see where it goes from there.

Honest recommendation? Get a decent 9-to-5, save up and eventually drop a couple grand on a used DSLR, some half decent lens, The smallest lighting rig you can find (mainly just for making close-ups look good), and make stuff yourself.

Bonus points if you can start her YouTube that has a decent following. When I was younger I made a Gundam model kit review channel. Actually got some subscribers, then as a joke after film school I put it on my resume because I wasn’t getting any jobs anyway. I can’t tell you how many job interviews I’ve gotten where they ask about the YouTube channel and how many subscribers I have and whether or not I’m still doing it. My fucking Gundam model kit review show has lend me more jobs than the student film I need in school.

Also, Argentina and Chile have some nice film school too. You're out of luck if you don't know spanish tho.

Education is cheap in Germany, at least cheaper than the US. If you only know english, your best shot is Europe.
