That was a doomed SNL season in general. The show was a sinking ship quality wise and they brought in a bunch of famous to semi-famous people (Janeane, Michael McKean, Chris Elliott, the guy from Kids in the Hall) to try to save it but mixing them with the Farley/Spade/Sandler at the end of their run when they were clearly burned out just spelled disaster. Norms debut season on Weekend Update was pretty much the only thing that made that season worth a damn.

I was about to say I recall the Chris Elliott stuff being one of the few highlights of that season. His skits were basically the same kind of weird stuff he’d do on Letterman in the 80s. There was one about a penis measuring device or something and he breaks the 4th wall halfway thru the sketch to announce his retirement from comedy to devote his life to selling penis measuring devices for real or something like that. Then as Lorne escorts him out of SNL studios and a Jack Ruby lookalike shoots him it was fucking nuts his letterman humor worked pretty well at snl too bad he didn’t stick around longer than that one year.

On top of that, she didn’t contribute anything other than bitching about the consequences of her miscasting as if it was everyone else’s fault. Norm called her out on this in front of the cast and writers until everyone was comfortable with giving her the cold shoulder until she left/was fired.
