Name one thing Captain Sobel did wrong

you literally cannot

Being born a kike

He tried to get a guy to do stuff or be court martial'd (shot to death)

post height and jaw

Is that Ross in the army?

He demanded perfection from his men but was himself incompetent. It was clear he only pushed his men so that he would be recognized for their performance to compensate for that.

Post height and nose

he said rachel in his marriage with another woman loooool

cheated on rachel ;)

He embodied a lot of negative stereotypes of Jews. He was passive aggressive and incompetent. He'd do his best to attack you without violating the letter of the law. He held grudges and never forgave even minor slights. He died alone in an old man's home because even his family didn't want anything to do with him. He probably would have been fragged or gotten a lot of men killed had he not been replaced before shipping out.

Didn't he read the map wrong and get his squad lost?

>Sadistic unnecessary punishments
>Obsessed with chickenshit
>Incompetent in the field
>Disaster at tactics
>Hated by his men

>So! Hitler was in the news today...

in the book I think Winters admitted Sobel's harsh training regime had really payed off when they went into combat.

Sobel could have exceled as a staff or training officer but he was obsessed with leading soldiers in the field. Not everybody is cut out for that role

He slept with the copy machine girl when he was on a relationship with Rachel

He was good in garrison, but shit in the field. That was the point.

>be court martial'd (shot to death)
There was only instance of that and it was because the guy absolutely fucking refused to go to the front after like three different officers and I think the fucking judge gave him a chance to take back what he said

He didn't get that goddamned platoon on the move.

Didn't he fuck up reading a map, getting everyone lost and then proceed to order a farmers fence cut? He also tried to fuck over Winters with the whole "I called and sent a runner" bullshit which was clearly a lie, then he tried to fuck him over with the "take MY punishment or request a trial by court martial" to get an easy win over Winters.

He was wrong for the position he was in. I mean how much of a fuck up do you have to be to have the squad write and deliver letters of resignation? All Sobel did was wrong, it should be "Name one thing Captain Sobel did right"

that dog just ain't gunna hunt

getting lost despite having a perfectly good map

He pissed off the men enough that they wanted to kill someone?

Is inability to recognize voices a sign of autism?

We had some orienteering classes in school going through small wooded hills with no compass and I honestly don't understand how someone with military training could fuck up reading a map while traversing regular fields. Was it just added on for the show to make sure everyone understood he's meant to be an idiot, or was he really that shit?

>implying he didnt fuck everything up on purpose to bond the men for life
he knew they would be holding a crucial position, and that's what he prepped them for, he just struggled with the knowledge that after he did what was necessary he could never lead them

Did he? I think Bill or someone else talks about an "accident" happening in the field but I can't remember if anyone outright says they want to kill someone

It's probably one of those military fuckups that happens all the time. I think most people have done something bat shit retarded. I remember during grenade training at basic and some dumb bitch threw a grenade and it bounced off the ceiling of the shelter which seems logically impossible given the gap from the hole you stand in to the actual roof you're under. But it happened.

How can you not get a joke this fucking clear, you dumbass?

I j-just read it for the gags!

You need to calm down you adult virgin

You have grenade training inside shelters? That seems like a really bad way to learn how to throw em.

They werent joking you retard

It wasn't in a shelter but there was a rain shelter type thing, like at a bus stop, for the recruits to wait under out of the rain/sun and this girl somehow clipped the roof with it.

Seems like an important way to learn because you'll be throwing grenades from windows of humvee, sandbagged positions and from windows of houses at times.

He was on a break

Winters actually viewed himself as somewhat incompetent because he neglected to notice his habit of putting First Platoon on the left, Second platoon on the right and Third Platoon in reserve. In his memoirs he actually looks at the guys in First Platoon with shame because he put them in in the most dangerous position consistently. So there is literally less veterans from First Platoon compared to that of Third Platoon which was almost always in reserve. First and Second suffered heavy attrition and those in Third generally went on to survive the war.

>He eventually died on September 30, 1987 due to malnutrition as the facility had poor state of affairs. No services were held for him after his death.

America sure love treating their vets with respect

Winters is too good of a man to see that they wouldn't have received the benefits (ie camaraderie, resilience) if Winters wasn't there to embody the good in leadership.
The training would have done nothing if the entire company hated all of their leadership while holding Bastogne.

I don't think Sobel would have done any good anywhere of importance, as evidenced by the way he died.

What do you mean? They get half price off their lunch on sundays! Anything more would be SOCIALISM.

So was he a good training officer on purpose, or was it entirely a side effect of him being a piece of shit?
I did a similar job in an rotc-type youth program and people said they hated me up until a couple weeks before they graduated when we started to ease up and they saw it was all bullshit

He fucked up the map reading while training in England, 'memba?

There was that one scene where his poor leadership during wargames led to his entire company being wiped out.
