Denis will obfuscate things by using the Water of Life perspective of Paul's as our lens into the movie, which will make it abstract and full of disparate images which might not even relate to the "plot" of the book. This will be the way he shows off the most stunning and sublime visuals from the film and draw you into the world without boring you with the weak part of Dune, which was and always will be its terribly thin plot.

The opening of the novel when they're still on Caladan would be a good, dark place to start the trailer. Paul is asking about Arrakis and is being told about it by Leto or his mother or whoever. As details are described, the dark coloring of that scene gives way to hard cuts to Arrakis, the screen exploding with light and color and musical spikes also entering at these points. Periodically it cuts back and zooms in on Paul's eyes, as the eyes of the Fremen are described. Once we can see only his eyes, they change to the blue within blue, a dark well opening up which we plunge down into. At the end of the darkness is a dim light. We hear the scurrying of small animals. A strange looking rat suddenly emerges in silhouette at the opening of the cave, and then it scurries out. We follow it into the Arrakis landscape, our eyes adjusting to the brilliant white sky and relentless sunlight. The rat scurries out into the expanse of desert ahead as our camera halts. It starts to recede to dot-size, a thumping sound coming to the forefront of our consciousness. The letters D U N E appear vertically above the mouse as the camera pans up slightly. The loudest thump is heard as the camera stops. The sandworm hoves into sight from below and consumes the letters. Cut to black screen with release date.

It should be though. This is not an action sci-fi kind of book. It's very dense with atmosphere and politics that are subtle and nuanced. People have the wrong expectation for Dune as a film.
