So if someone else adapts their work and they're not involved in the creative process (as I assume Kesey? is that the guy's name? wasn't, without bothering to check, just like King with the Shining), AND they're still alive to see the results, they're quite liable to personally dislike the end result, as not being fully congruent with their private vision. They can't help but take it personally.
