When a movie comes out that is marketed almost entirely as having a POWERFUL FEMALE LEAD (ghostbusters, captain marvel, oceans 8, etc), it’s because the executives know that using that forces people to watch it. Nobody is allowed to give any negative press about the movie because that means they hate women. It is fully 100% an obvious marketing strategy, but these people can’t stop desperately pushing every piece of feminist media for 5 seconds to realise that they might be promoting total trash.

poor screenwriting. most of the time when there is a strong female character, the screenwriter wrote lines as if they were for a male character instead of a female character so that when you see the movie an actress is reading male lines. its makes everything feel off. the most recent example is the strong woman in Bad Times at the El Royale. the character was a man being played by a woman. the strong female character seemed to lack feminimity. agent clarice starling from silence of the lambs is the best example of a well written strong independent woman.
