The problem with Force Awakens is it tonally imitates the OT but does little to build it's own narrative and characters. The sequel trilogy needed to be its own thing, but the criticism of the prequel trilogy led to Abrams bland comfy retread, which actually did more damage than the prequels by being stale. Lucas at least tried new stuff.

JJ is more to blame than Rian, who inherited a pile of nothing, an empty narrative with no new ideas of its own.

The Last Jedi has many flaws, but Rian Johnson's approach to Luke is ironically one of the things he gets right; he builds on the character flaw Luke showed in Empire and Return, and use a that as the basis for an arc...but he handles it clumsily and it's too short.

See, the scenes where Luke is talking to Rey about the force are the best scenes in TLJ, and there needed to be more of Luke as a teacher, and less as a sulky hobo. They should also allow Rey to actually fail, and learn and grow. The theme of the movie would have been stronger if Rey had more of a growth arc.

He attached a few photos, for whom reverse image searches found nothing, of people in costumes on sets (I remember one being the Mountain Trooper). He basically confirmed that they're doing an "Endgame" involving time travel, and by the end Luke, Leia and Han will be alive and get a happy ending (Han and Leia will be CG'd from the back hugging, while Luke will be standing in front of a new Jedi Temple).
