Comedies aren't being made as much anymore.
All other genres are becoming a lot more comedic in their scripts though.
Marvel is the best example of this. They basically make comedy movies but with an actual serious plot.

bingo. best way to do comedy is just do a slice of life story and try to eke out some funny moments. trying to force comedy is pointless. except in the case of absurdist humor, which is even HARDER to get right. comedy is VERY polarizing.
