I was looking for this one the other day. Thanks for the save.

No. Degeneracy is when you delude yourself into thinking your lifestyle of drugs and casual sex is normal and healthy and then promote that lifestyle to other people. Jerking it to shotacon alone in your bedroom and feeling suicidal afterwards is definitely NOT degenerate.
Do you even 4channel?

That's not what degeneracy means retard. You're on a website filled to the brim with self-proclaimed suicidal NEETs many of which love traps I really don't know what you dumb zoomers faggots are hoping to accomplish here by complaining about "degeneracy" as if it hasn't been a core part of this boards culture since the very beginning.

I'm sorry but degeneracy is inversely related to self-awareness. If this concept is too much for you I suggest you join your fellow boomers on facebook and in youtube comments.

So poise in its execution. It’s not vain and bland, despite it having “niggers” twice. I wouldn’t be surprised if the user is some published author, that’s seriously good writing

>I'm sorry but degeneracy is inversely related to self-awareness
Which you clearly have none of when complaining about it on fucking Yea Forums. Where do you think you are newfag? Do you realize some of the greatest films of all time have elements you'd call "degenerate"?

The last line is actually incredible. It informs so much about the man.

If the world has degeneracy in it then naturally art is going to reflect that and depict degenerate things. If the artist doesn't recognise these things as degenerate then they are likely to inadvertently promote those things. Trainspotting depicts degenerate behaviour without endorsing it.
Other films glamorize degenerate lifestyles for the sake of cashing in on people's fantasies. They might have some moral at the end about how drugs or crime or whatever is bad, but really they just wanted to show 'cool' people doing 'cool' things to get butts in seats. I haven't watched Good Time, and it could easily fall into either category.

wow, chris nolan living that fast life

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

>They might have some moral at the end about how drugs or crime or whatever is bad, but really they just wanted to show 'cool' people doing 'cool' things to get butts in seats
What are some films you think are like this?

The first one to come to mind is The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things which I watched back when Asia Argento was getting BTFO'd.

Also Enter the Void was like this too

Oh is it opposite day already?

The protag in Enter The Void dies because of his involvement with drugs though. And the sister ends up a strung out whore.

Also, I reckon Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction fit this category too but they are exceptionally well made and written films so they get a pass.

You need an internal monologue to be a real boy, my NPC friend.

I just noticed this guy is not Kevin Bacon

No, but absolutely study sentence patterns. Reading the paraphrase, you understand the very little use of S LV N or S TrV N; the most common forms of sentences we use. Combined with juxtaposed words and fruitful vocabulary and a jeer at minorities comes a very tasteful way of writing. He did an excellent job portraying a mindset and lifestyle in about 4 sentences.

>Enter the Void was like this
The MC in that film gets killed due to his drug dealing behavior, leaves his sister grief stricken, and his friends life ruined. Did you even watch the fucking thing? The whole film is his soul wandering around and exploring the consequences of his death which came as a result of his own behavior

My memory of Enter the Void is hazy because I was high on percocets at the time but the impression I got after the film had finished was that everything was fucked up because the world is just a fucked up place and not because the characters are retards that make poor choices. It even links all his behaviour to some car accident in childhood or something. It's classic degenerate behaviour to blame your lack of moral agency on childhood trauma.

Worst movie I have ever seen
Dead ass serious

>Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction
In Reservoir Dogs all the main charecters die and betray each other while in Pulp Fiction Wallace's wife almost OD's because of her cocaine addiction while Vincent dies in trying to complete a hit on someone. Jesus Christ dude I don't know how you can boil these films down to:
>really they just wanted to show 'cool' people doing 'cool' things to get butts in seats
The character's actions have consequences and it's all in service of the story none of it is "degeneracy" for degeneracy sake.

This must be the pinnacle of european wit

>It even links all his behaviour to some car accident in childhood or something
That scene was meant to develop the relationship between the brother and sister and explain why they're so close to each other retard.

>It's classic degenerate behavior to blame your lack of moral agency on childhood trauma.
Except the film doesn't do that and characters within the film repeatedly warn the MC he shouldn't be doing what he was doing. Why are anti-degenerate types like you always the biggest plebs out there?

is this a variant of /k/ sleazecore? i wonder if sleaze automatically means "unbuttoned shirt with sunglasses".

New Bull looks good

No. Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs are more like archetypal stories that take place in a degenerate setting. In doing so, they normalise that setting. Films like Taxi Driver and Trainspotting are actual (self-aware) explorations of degenerate lifestyles. Films like Pulp Fiction use degenerate lifestyles primarily for aesthetic purposes.

if early 2000s, brad pitt. cmon son

Attached: AC00FD2F-B105-4892-86C8-10B0BC9A8F84.jpg (1486x835, 160K)

>In doing so, they normalise that setting
How? How the fuck could you portray a film like Pulp Fiction which is about criminality in a non-degenerate setting?

>Films like Pulp Fiction use degenerate lifestyles primarily for aesthetic purposes.
How? Characters suffer consequences and even die as a result of their behavior

>calling people degenerates on a weeb cartoon site

How about no you faggot retard. I hate cum dumpsters like you

Pulp Fiction is not about criminality. Pulp Fiction is about the characters. It's a film about fucking up at work, or having your boss ask you to do something you don't really want to. It uses the criminal setting to add aesthetic and raise the stakes. Sure, it tackles themes of criminality but does so rather superficially.
I'll give you another example. Scarface is a degenerate film because it takes the archetypal rags to riches story and gives it a criminal veneer. The Godfather, in contrast, is an actual exploration of the degenerate lifestyle of mob family members. One is self-aware of it's degeneracy and the other is not. That makes one of these films degenerate while the other is not, even though they are both great films.

if he was black it would

You might be right about this one because I don't remember it well. All I remember is finishing the film and thinking that the filmmaker wanted me to feel sorry for the flying ghost degenerate. I can't feel sympathy for characters that don't grow or learn from their mistakes and it's kind of hard to learn anything when you're dead. Maybe the filmmaker was intending for me to project my own discoveries onto the mind of the (dead) protag but that's a bit of an ask when I don't relate to him at all to begin with.

>The Godfather, in contrast, is an actual exploration of the degenerate lifestyle of mob family members
The Godfather glorifies the mob and mob criminality arguably as much as Scarface in certain regards. It has you sympathize with murderers and objectively morally reprehensible people.

>All I remember is finishing the film and thinking that the filmmaker wanted me to feel sorry for the flying ghost degenerate
And that's why you're a fucking pleb. The movie is quite obvious in its themes
youtu.be/PGtumTVHRcQ?t=66

>when I don't relate to him at all to begin with.
Why? Don't you relate with morally reprehensible characters in films like Michael Corleone or Henry Hill? Can you not relate with people who live lives drastically different to your own?

>The Godfather glorifies the mob and mob criminality
Yes, I think it's even true that the mob themselves started to model themselves on their own depiction in the film. However, I'm trying to distinguish between intent and outcome. I don't think Copolla was trying to glorify the mob, whereas I think it's safe to say that De Palma was trying to glorify drug dealing (for the sake of his narrative of course). I don't have a problem with this but it should be called out none the less.

Timothy Olyphant

I actually live a degenerate lifestyle much closer to the protag of Enter the Void than of Michael Corleone or Henry Hill. It's just that I relate to people with wants and desires and ambition in life a lot more than I do to flying ghosts who's only memorable character trait is 'I like DRUGS!'

I said that already.

>I don't think Copolla was trying to glorify the mob
You're absolutely wrong in that regard. It makes the audience emphasize with murderers and makes us root for the bad guys. It also romanticizes lots of elements of the mob and makes it out to be much nobler than it actually was. Every boomer who's ever seen the movie (that I know of) has found Vito and Michael and company to be just the epitome of cool.

Where the fuck do you get gay funeral director or serial killer from that pic?

Wish I could write anything half this good.

Attached: laughing ned.jpg (500x476, 26K)

The whole point of this conversation is that simply saying 'drugs are bad' in your film that makes drugs look way more cool and interesting than anything in your boring life is fucking degenerate. I film isn't what's in the script, it's the sum of the things you actually take away and remember about the film. That's why I brought up Trainspotting. You can't leave that film wanting to try heroin. I'm sure lots of people wanted to try DMT after watching Enter the Void.

where do I learn this shit?

Paul Bettany

>in your film that makes drugs look way more cool and interesting than anything in your boring life
how does the film do that? How does the film condemn normal life as "boring" in your opinion?

Yeah but my concern is misrepresentation. You can't deny the cool factor of being in the mafia irl. That would be true whether film existed as a medium or not and that is gonna come through in any film about the mafia. However I don't think Coppola was trying to make the mob seem more appealing than it really was. All those appealing things you see in the film, the sense of community, the respect and authority, the wealth... all those things exist in real life.

>You can't deny the cool factor of being in the mafia irl.
>greasy wops doing greasy wop shit
Wow so cool. It's also badass when Mexicans steal the wheels off cars and nogs knock over corner stores for cartons of Newports.

It doesn't do that directly, what it does is make doing drugs look way more cool and exciting than it really is. I've done every drug under the sun including DMT and this film is not an accurate depiction of either the effects or the consequences of drugs. It uses drugs to tell some pseudo-spiritual nonsense story. It would be like me making a film about a serial rapist with lots of flashing lights and energetic music whenever he rapes someone. It's disingenuous and intentionally misleading.

>You can't deny the cool factor of being in the mafia irl
Being in the Mafia irl was much less noble and cool than what the Godfather makes it out to be dude. The author of the book its based on freely admitted he didn't do any real research for it so you can't really claim it's an accurate representation of the mob.

>However I don't think Coppola was trying to make the mob seem more appealing than it really was
lmao dude you're simply wrong. It amplifies and exaggerates elements to make the mob seem much more sympathetic while ignoring the more savage elements of it.

>All those appealing things you see in the film, the sense of community, the respect and authority, the wealth... all those things exist in real life.
Not nearly to the same extent. The mob irl was filled with backstabbing cocksuckers that would sanction the murder of their own family literally. Look up Michael Franzese his own dad wanted him whacked. Again dude you're deluding yourself if you honestly believe Coppola wasn't trying to make the mob seem more appealing for film. I don't have an issue with it personally but your view of what you consider "degenerate" seems entirely arbitrary.

>what it does is make doing drugs look way more cool and exciting than it really is.
How? I have my own fair share of experience with drugs and I don't think the film depicts it as some sort of ideal lifestyle. It includes the shady charecters, the unexpected death, and the absolute desperation for a dose like what you see with the sister in the film. I honestly don't know how you can walk away from that film thinking the movie is claiming drugs are good and normal life is boring. Such a brainlet interpretation.

>It uses drugs to tell some pseudo-spiritual nonsense story
How?

kino

>Is it for degenerates though?

Attached: 1547333968605.png (841x753, 941K)

Yeah you're right actually. By my previous definition, The Godfather is degenerate.
I guess for me it comes down to what people take away from a film. You watch The Godfather and while you might find the mob more glamourous than you did before, it's ultimately a film about (and encouraging) family responsibility.
I don't like films that depict degeneracy but don't have a moral message to counter that degeneracy. I love Pulp Fiction but it falls into this trap. No one walks away from Pulp Fiction thinking 'man, crime really doesn't pay' or 'wow, I should do the right thing by my family.' It just uses degeneracy in a throwaway manner which normalises it.

how to write more eloquently I guess.

Attached: download-1.jpg (853x480, 27K)

It's a film about a dead person examining the life they left behind. Sounds pretty spiritual to me. Compare it to Requiem for a Dream. That film also depicts drug use in a hyper real way, also shows the negatives of drug use and you leave that film never wanting to do drugs again. You just don't get that impression with Enter the Void. It's too up it's own ass to have a down to earth message like 'don't do drugs' hold any weight.
I could easily see someone coming out of Enter the Void and asking themsevles 'would this film make more sense to me if I had done DMT? Am I missing out on interesting experiences because I don't do psychedelics?'

Read. Read, read, read. Fucking read. Can’t stress how important it is to read. Be it books, mags, or blogs, just READ. Understand why nigger slang sounds awful to read, and why writing with proper syntax and formation is necessary for clean writing.
When forming sentences, please, PLEASE refrain from just picking up and replacing words with “fancier” words you look up for synonyms on google. Too many noobie writers do this and never read over, and don’t realize how stifled and grotesque the whole thing turns out to be.
Pick up a cheap high school English book at a bookstore and read it. Use it for reference and it will save your life. I’ve been commissioned to write stuff like fanfics, light novellas and scripts, so I can tell you what I did.
