Do you ever notice in movies from the 80s/90s where the characters are stinking rich but are portrayed as totally average? Isn't it weird how they seem to have no class consciousness whatsoever?
Do you ever notice in movies from the 80s/90s where the characters are stinking rich but are portrayed as totally...
It was a different time(unironically). They were definitely only middle class back then.
That house looked a lot bigger to me as a kid. I'm more impressed by their ability to take the whole family on elaborate vacatations on Kevin's father's dime.
The median income for the suburb that house is located in is $200k. Kevin's family was well-off even in the early 90s. Middle-class houses were a lot smaller.
name at least 4 other examples
Color blindness and classlessness were taught back then, and it was better because of it.
Now they do the opposite.
This is actually a good question, because it made me read up on this more.
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Weird Science
Planes, Trains, & Automobiles
I think it's just a John Hughes thing.
for (((them))) this is what middle class looks like
Kevin's family would be upper middle class or lower upper class. Not outrageously rich but certainly better off than most people in the USA.
It's more impressive when you consider that plane travel was much more expensive in the 1990s.
they did this in the 2000s etc. look at perks of being a wallflower
*2010s
Add wargames to this list
most likely this
the rich view those who have millions as middle class
hell even americans making 50-75k a year don't know they're low income
>Isn't it weird how they seem to have no class consciousness whatsoever?
no, because they are scripted characters, not real people
there isn't any such thing as class, only those with greater or lesser wealth quotients
Father of the bride house
the market for homes in 2000 was like 150k average
What are you talking about? It was obvious the McCallisters had money... The whole motive to rob the house stemmed from it being the ritziest home in town. Plus, the entire family was taking a trip to Paris for Christmas. The mom literally tries to give away fistfuls of jewelry just for a plane ticket back. This is all well above average. The movie makes it clear they have money, so shut the fuck up. OP, you've proved yourself yet again to be a braindead niggerfaggot.

You're a retarded faggot
>a schoolteacher and underemployed toymaker live here
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (TV Show). That house was too nice for a single mom in Southern California to be raising two kids in.
I never found Steve Martin's character from Planes, Trains & Autos to be middle class.
He's a big company marketing guy with a "helluva nice watch." Flies first class, money is no object.
Shouldn't /thread your own post but I'll do it for you since you're right.

>Kevin's dad is a mobster
>gets suspicious at the police officer scene, doesnt seem to recognize joe pescis character
it fits in my opinion
if the burglars broke into a 3-bedroom apartment it wouldn't be much of a movie.
>hell even americans making 50-75k a year don't know they're low income
oh but they do
I was one of those kids, and you just aren't aware of it when you live like that and you aren't exposed to poverty in any way.
Kevin's Uncle, Rob McCallister payed for the trip retard.
Wasn't there a line by uncle frank that said kevins father was paying a lot of money for this trip and you better not ruin it?
So Rob was Kevin's real dad?
Idk who the f rob is. I think he was the guy renovating his house in new york?
Because he definitely doesn't make money off of patents that people use.
thats upper middle user. not stinkin rich.
