I agree I saw it 3 times as a 12 year old.
The choreography is very antiquated and unconvincing as it's pre-HK cinema influence Hollywood though.

I liked the fight sound effects much better in the first movie, the punches and kicks were exaggerated like in old Bruce Lee films. The sequel, in addition to all it's other problems, dropped that and the fights seemed much shittier.

I consider the first one to be a genuinely good film as far as 90's kino goes. I agree, sequel is a guilty pleasure but it's hot garbage. It took itself too seriously and lost its charm.

I got nothing from the sequel. It was the most barely-lukewarm movie I've ever seen. So much so that I forget there was a sequel (that I saw at the movie theater btw).
It was that disappointing.

they just shoehorned so many characters at once that ended up with half barely doing anything.

its actually aged ridiculously well despite some of the cgi (reptile and the ending)

it was rushed (hence the half baked sfx), inexperienced director, studio wanted every character from 2 & 3 crammed in there because they were afraid of the popularity of the franchise waning, actors didn't want to return because the script was shit, oh and they turned shao khan into a whiny faggot

if it was done today, goro would have been completely cgi jar jar binks tier
scorpion and reptile fight were god tier. the movie had a good ost as well.
though stupid shit like sub zero being impaled by his own icicle and the really terrible sonya and kano fight

It is a bad movie but really fun to watch

They actually had hired Cameron Diaz after she had appeared in The Mask, and Diaz had trained for a few months when she sprained her ankle, and they had to bring Bridgette Wilson as a last second replacement.
