Read the manga years ago, just literally finished watching the film. They failed to capture the hard grit and lived-in world that the manga portrayed. It's too clean and vibrant. It's meant to look like an industrial shithole, it just looks like a ramshackle city.

The script is 50% terrible and 50% averagely okay. I get that manga-to-film means a lot will be lost in translation, but holy shit was it so obviously written with a checklist for "what films need to have in them to sell".

The effects were nice though and the main character is cute as a button. I enjoyed it but, after paying attention to this movie's development since 2008, I really have to say that I was disappointed. I was really expecting a dark, gritty, industrial take on cyberpunk. Instead it's a PG 13 movie.

Still, I didn't hate it.
