The reason she used a bow and arrow in the story was because she didn't want the story focused on guns. All people talk about when it comes to this shit is guns. Ignoring the fact that this is a relatively recent phenomenon. You used to be able to buy machine guns way more easily than you can now, which it is next to impossible now, and school shootings were not a thing.
The story is about all of the elements in his life and upbringing that brought him to that point.
