I liked 2014, but at least we get to see Shin in the light and it isn't just shitty nighttime shots because the CG is easier. Plus, Shin was horrifying. It was a great nod to the original and a great update to the solo Godzilla films.

Except Shin Godzilla only had 17 minutes of screentime, that's only 7 more minutes of screentikme than 2014. The plot is still 90% human focused and 2014's human plot is objectively better

This. Cranston as main character trying to unearth godzilla for 60% of the film would have been great, army being deployed to face an unknown treat with media blackout, showcase of global forces trying to stop something in the southern hemisphere and finally a mid to end constant battle of humans/mutos/godzilla to shock and awe the audience could have made this amazing.

Basically mystery, military porn, footage like the anchor during Dawn of the dead remake, cosmic horror with the mutos and godzilla. Cranston survives and tells wantonabe " i know why you lied. We are nothing". End credits.

I'm sorry you didn't get it mate. This movie is about how the slow ass japanese government would respond to a threat. Japan has an interesting situation because they can't really defend themselves without the US's help. The many office scenes are 100% necessary but not as fucking interrupting as 2014's dumbass characters. I don't know why they killed off the only person I cared about for some dumb subplot that served as a cocktease to actually see Godzilla. 2014 moves at a glacial pace in the middle of the movie which really ruins the whole thing. Meanwhile Shin Godzilla manages to make the office scenes fast paced and frantic in order to convey a sense of chaos when trying to respond to Godzilla. The music helps with this too. That's why I'm so confused why people like Godzilla 2014 better than Shin Godzilla.
