Clara was trashed as a character. Jenna Coleman is absurdly cute and charming but they never had any idea what they wanted to do with Clara. She starts out as a nanny for some extremely annoying black kids, then they replaced them with an extremely unlikable black boyfriend, then they gave her a death wish.

All they needed to do was have her be cute and have a thirst for adventure and danger and Coleman's charisma would have carried Clara into being a great character but they couldn't stop themselves from fucking her up.

The only era of Doctor Who I ever cared about was new who seasons 1 to 6, with season 5 being probably the strongest overall and season 3 having the most high points.

I never found that they majorly went wrong with Amy's character. In fact she's one of the only companions who's arc was getting over her childish, messianic infatuation with an unrealistic figure(The Doctor) to see the importance of her real relationship with an actual person(Rory).

Seems like an extremely good message for a lot of Doctor Who fans. Not to mention Rory himself was an entertaining character who added to almost every episode he was in.

The only problem is her exit from the show was kind of rushed and thematically irrelevent to this longer arc that on a metaphorical level was about keeping hold of the best of your childhood sentiments and values without letting them get in the way of the important relationships of your adult life.

Clara was pure regression from Amy.
