There’s no evil anti-white man messaging anywhere in the movie, there’s 3 nonwhite people in the whole movie and the movie, none of them are all that likable, and the movie would be pretty much the same if they weren’t in it at all, everyone else in the movie is equally insufferable and devoid of personality whether they’re male or female. Well I mean yeah it’s clear that they’re in a shitty relationship and obviously anyone with a brain would have known not to bring her on the trip, but it didn’t really feel like it was an important part of the movie at all to me, their relationship literally just feels like it was a sidenote that was getting in the way of the movie trying to show off le wacky cult peepol. None if the characters’ relationships, romantic or platonic, felt even remotely believable because the writing was so bad and the acting was so flat and one note, so I didn’t really pay much attention to anything other than when the next obvious wacky cult thing was supposed to happen so I could get a good laugh out of seeing something entertaining happen in between all the dreadfully boring dialogue and painfully awkward scenes where nothing happens.

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong it didn't feel important, but it was also the only thing there at all, making it the default message. All the characters were one dimensional paper cut outs that hardly reacted to the world around them, let alone each other. But I thought it was pretty obvious from the opening scene where she's reluctant to talk to her boyfriend because of her shitty family situation, then cult guy sees a weakness to exploit and ropes her into another shitty relationship with his cult family this time. She's a retard who keeps bouncing from one toxic love to another, from sister to boyfriend to cult. She's a constant victim and that's what she wants.

I think I was so focused on trying to pull some sort of meaning out of the first half an hour of the movie that I tried to view everything after from the point of view that all of that actually meant something, so by the end of the movie I thought it was supposed to be about coming to terms with losing loved ones and PTSD or some shit. But if that’s not what the movie is about (and according to the director himself, it’s not) then I guess the whole first half hour of the movie is totally pointless and the movie does a terrible job of conveying any message at all.

Maybe “message” isn’t the best word, I’m not saying every movie has to be deep and impart some great wisdom onto the audience, but the story should at least have a fucking point. What’s the point of this whole movie, showing a wacky cult? They could have cut the movie length down by an hour, dropped the whole idea that the 5 cardboard cutout actors have any real significance to the story at all, and just had a much shorter, much more interesting showcase of freaky cult antics if that’s the case.
