- I think its the many layers it shows: school, newsreels, administration, discussions around civilian vs citizen - the first almost 1 hour has very little to do with the actual war but simply shows life in the federation - arachnids are a believable alien life form. There is no reason why aliens should be humanoid and travel in spaceships. An insecticide hive-mind that colonizes with spores is equally if not more believable. Certainly more efficient at spreading life. - most importantly, realistic depiction of infantry vs bugs. Both in terms of displayed brutality and number of causalities.
Some unanswered questions unfortunately remain: - what's the source of the conflict? why do the arachnids even attack humans via diversion of asteroids?
back when I was 8, I mostly liked it because of all the cool shooting and scary bugs. but I guess you're right, too.
Nolan Lopez
It was essentially a high school movie with the high school replaced with a space faring military
Colton Jenkins
So you're saying it's successful live action anime?
Anthony Hernandez
THE METEOR WAS AN INSIDE JOB NEVER FORGET BUENOS AIRES
Sebastian Harris
>What made this movie so great? Satire not shown in marketing.
James Hughes
Great movie.
Surprised that Casper Van Dien never had much of a career after this, despite being a Giga-Chad.
Thomas Morris
It was popular for it's resounding polemic against the politics of Fascism.
Joseph Morris
I think that part makes it great as well. As a kid you are drawn in by the depiction of space military and the battles on the ground. As an adult you also realize the satirical elements of the political system of the federation. This movie has something for everybody. High school love, military action, political satire.
Cameron Williams
Also, to this day it's the only movie realistically depicting a large-scale conflict against intelligent bugs. The only other that comes close is "Aliens", yet you only deal with a small group of people there. All other alien sci-fi movies go for the depiction of a limited number of adversaries for the horror element - but they lack the realism and brutality of large-scale conflicts.
This, was weird. Instead of becoming Captain America, he chose Army Dog.
Juan Rivera
Can you elaborate? Did not see the movie.
I think he was too "generic" if that makes sense. He fit exactly the role he played in Starship Troopers. For other movies he would be a bit too "perfect" because of his looks mostly. His acting wasn't bad though.
Gabriel Wilson
But I agree with . Captain America is just as generic as him.
sort of but it actually has three layers or three eras. childhood is seeing the action and laughing at the corny dialogue. adolescence is realising that it's a satire and it's parodying an attitude and it's meant to be like that, it's 'knowing'. Adulthood is casting aside the author's limited 'knowing' intention and seeing that they accidentally depicted a vision of a perfect society that should be cherished and shared as a point of reference. Like some message that came from god through inspiration in spite of the fallible author
Isaiah Diaz
>what's the source of the conflict? why do the arachnids even attack humans via diversion of asteroids? Klendathu was on the other side of the galaxy. Even given the fastest recorded speed of an asteroid it would take several billion years to reach Earth, meaning it needed to be set in motion when only basic plant life existed. In other words,
And the best part is that most of that shit was real. That's why it aged so well. Most scenes had real props and the cgi was blended in very elegantly. If they remade it today, it'd look like a PS3 game with Idris Elba as Rico and that 5 foot niggress from MiB as Carmen/Dizzy (she'd play both parts, fuck off nazis)
Adrian Cooper
thanks, did not think about that. From humanity's ability to warp-travel I subconsciously assumed similar abilities for the arachnids. You're right though, even assuming the arachnids used an asteroid at the outer-edge of the arachnid quarantine zone, and even assuming that covers half of the galaxy (which it doesn't), it would still take millions if not more years.
agree, the shots aged very well. I always assumed there must be many props involved as CGI was only really seen when they showed hordes of arachnids. Close-up they always looked good.
Xavier James
>Adulthood is casting aside the author's limited 'knowing' intention and seeing that they accidentally depicted a vision of a perfect society
You're a fucking idiot.
Logan Howard
mom please get off this site
Bentley Brooks
I like the romance arc in the movie. First, from a purely romantic perspective I was rooting for Johnny and Carmen. Later, I must say the scene in pic related was incredibly satisfying after Carmen become an entitled/spoiled girl that doesn't seem to know what she want.
You're forgetting that the bugs attacked first. They slaughtered a bunch of Mormon colonist, and don't say the bugs were just defending their land, cuz Mormons don't do violence and the bugs are intelligent, there's no reason why they couldn't reason with the Mormons.
Owen Kelly
bugs were there first and nobody like mormons anyway so they actually had to manufacture a casus belli in order to justify the war and wipe out the bugs from the galaxy.
Ethan Evans
YOU KILL ANYTHING THAT HAS MORE THAN TWO LEGS. YOU GET ME?
Joshua Lewis
I'M FROM BUENOS AIRES AND I SAY KILL EM ALL!
Zachary Jenkins
It's a straightforwardly simple storyline with a classic "hero's journey", and isn't afraid to appeal to emotions the people behind hollywood don't want people to associate with nationalistic war, only randomly super-powered spy agency types massacring faceless enemies of the IRL governments.
About the only element that works as "satire" is the idea that the asteroid hitting Buenos Aires is an inside job, and even then, it's not funny ha-ha satire, it's disquieting and it's easy to miss on first viewing, particularly since the film came out before 9/11.
Kind of this. It is a coming of age/teen romance story with added satire and sci fi militaryand war. I was 13 or 14 when it came out and it was the top movie around everyone liked it. It also has amazing effect.
Logan Hernandez
- Verhoeven, Neumeier, Vacano, Poledouris, extremely talented guys giving it their all - Technically groundbreaking at the time, still holds up amazingly well - Dripping with pitch-black satire and gallows humour in every scene - Not afraid to show the pros and cons of a fascist America and leaves it up to the viewer to draw their own conclusions - Deftly juggles levity and gravity, never takes itself seriously despite being able to make some very serious points (and making fun of them) - Original fusion of airhead teen soap opera and heady, gory war movie which works on several levels
It's fucking brilliant, a classic
>what's the source of the conflict? why do the arachnids even attack humans via diversion of asteroids?
They smartly never give the viewer that moral compass. We're never told who started the war or why, so we can judge the movie's political leanings on their own merits, or lack of them
agree partly. Yet, it also holds up very well when seeing it as an adult. there is not hero bullshit among the insane amount of casualties. Sure, every now and then there is a small hero moment like the rodeo ride on the acid spewing bug. But for every such moment, there are hundreds who die almost instantly.
> They smartly never give the viewer that moral compass. We're never told who started the war or why, so we can judge the movie's political leanings on their own merits, or lack of them
man it sucks most people never think that deeply about this movie.
"Where in this for the species. It's simple numbers. They have more. Every day I have to make decisions that send hundreds of people to their deaths."
Jose Sanders
Jesus, how many years had passed between Starship Troopers and Breaking Bad? It's like he doesn't look young in Starship Troopers but hasn't aged since then.
Michael White
what are you talking about - the "satire" is they they're all happy and fulfilled and vivacious because they're so dumb they don't know they live in a turrible fascist society that makes a fake war for them to fight in so they can have martial spirit. It fails as a satire because many people who watch recognise this is actually a better life than being a rootless Individual spinning your wheels endlessly, Free to become immensely fat
Nathaniel Morales
No. You think it fails as a satire because its subject is your own worldview. It upsets you and by this fact alone, we can say that it actually succeeded.
Christian Moore
This. It's just a liberal democracy where you have to serve if you want the right to vote.
Joseph Gomez
>upsets me i fucking love the movie. i'm just referring to verhoeven's comment that he wanted to make it criticise fascism and how you have to make it look a bit nice so people don't feel like you're insulting their intelligence. it does mean you can watch it either way as you suggest. I only say it fails because i fucking guarantee more people who have watched it have come away with an unconscious longing planted for a martial society than have had something like that quashed
Chase Johnson
are you talking about the book or the movie though. that's the book
Easton Stewart
he's right in one point though: people's desire for meaning in life is enormous. Of course authoritative governments thrive on providing that. But it is also true that much of modern society fails to provide meaning for people, despite them having almost infinite freedom to pursue the route they think they desire. It is exactly this part of Jordan Peterson which is appealing to young people (both men and women) - a parental figure, a compass for life in today's chaotic society.
It's in both. In the movie Johnny Rico comes from a wealthy family where it is considered an embarrassment to serve. This implies that his family is wealthy due to a market economy, and not ties to the government or military. It also implies that this nationalist and militarist fervour isn't really all that widespread.
Julian Hernandez
it’s basically a snapshot of the type of pop culture a victorious nazi germany would be producing if it was still around
props to verhoeven for playing it straight and not stuffing it with silly winks
Alexander Powell
>”it’s a satire of facism” >everyone is free >coed showers >philosophy lessons that try to dissuade you from joining service >they don’t use corporal punishment on Rico when he fails in basic training when they easily could have >actively encourages the population to quit if they want >enemy is a hive mind without any unique individuality, they all serve the mind bug (allegory for communism)
People who still peddle the meme that it’s a facist satire missed the point same as the director did. It’s a libertarian fantasy at its most extreme
Jonathan Green
did u even watch the movie my dude
Hunter Powell
>It fails as a satire because many people Retarded people, usually neets and incels.
Oliver Gonzalez
did you even understand the movie my dude
Blake Butler
>What made this movie so great? ITS AFRAID... OF AIIIIIIIIIDS
Try watching it again sometime and pay attention with those facts in mind.
Jonathan Roberts
it is a propaganda movie. what’s important is not that alternatives are presented, but that the hero makes the right choices. narrative 101
and yeah the nazis had such great respect for all the fine individuals that made up the soviet union lmao
Jeremiah Carter
I believe that you believe that you're making a point.
Evan Gray
Why is it that less and less movies display realistic causalities? why is it that things are "sanitized" and usually just implied?
> all Marvel / superhero movies have almost zero deaths, if civilians die like in man of steel, it's never really shown in a form that impacts people's emotions but just assumed, it's "sanitized", even in Avenger's where half of the planet vanish it raises absolutely zero emotions.
> all deaths in modern Star Wars movies raise absolutely zero emotions. Of course no main characters every die, which is a problem in itself. How are people supposed to take a threat seriously if it causes no impact?
> the only movies left that capture realistic brutality of battle are war movies - and even they become less and less accurate. The last realistic invasion movie that captures causalities was "Saving Private Ryan".
It's sad but I think at this point it's too late. If anyone would "realistically" depict victims of battle, it would instantly be criticized as too violent - people have lost connection to reality through year's of sugar-coding in movies.
>go to Uni >live your own life >still be free >don’t need citizenship to have a full life
You missed the entire context of rasczak’s lesson. The movie is shot as propaganda, but the point and quotes lifted directly from the book go over everyone’s head.
Jonathan Sanders
That's how you're going to defend your incoherent garbled mess?
Zachary Kelly
the book is straight up fascist the movie is fascist satire
Jack Flores
maybe because it depicted a utopian society I would have loved to join the interstellar marine corps and kill bugs, it will make me that old guy with no legs boasting about glory youtu.be/b07887ZzKiw
Jayden Wood
thanks for the restating the dumbass basic bitch that is already taken as the premise that all posts so far are refuting or elaborating on

The book portrayed a market capitalist global civilization collapsing, and disciplined military men taking over from the corruption and instilling honesty, order and the means for both to self propagate.
Carter Ross

Hunter Moore
>Adulthood is casting aside the author's limited 'knowing' intention and seeing that they accidentally depicted a vision of a perfect society that should be cherished and shared as a point of reference.
Interesting statement and superficially it might ring true... but I think only in that setting where the enemy aren't humans but are of an alien threat. Would a similar movement arise in the US and/or the west with no one to fight against but its own species on the same planet, then I think a real shitshow would occur. The reason that Troopers society works so well is because there is no grey area, even when it's likely that the destruction of BA was a false flag; it gave everyone a clear sense of purpose. There are no good bugs and they can be danced around with as long as necessary.
Lincoln Powell
Seriously, how the fuck did they manage those scenes with hundreds of arachnids shown at once? This film came out 2 years before Phantom Menace, and we even act like Helms Deep was the first time we ever got to see gigantic battle shots.
Carter Lewis
Pretty much the only thing shit in this movie were the standard-issued assault rifles. They felt like toy guns with no impact - needing 2 magazines for 1 bug. But I guess they were imitating "Aliens" where they had similar weapons.
Recently watched it for the first time since my childhood. It was such a good feeling constantly having that sence of deja vu from all the images my brain still had memories of, even if i never understood what was going on before and now making sense of it all.
Robert Lee
True, considering they state how democracy failed. But everyone has the chance to serve and vote how they please. Not to mention the sky Marshall takes responsibility for failure and steps down when they’re incompetent. Far from fascist.
Luke Nguyen
>So you're saying it's successful live action anime? There actually was an anime adaptation of Starship Troopers years before the film was made. It's a more faithful adaptation of the source material and I found it very enjoyable. Also the bug design looks genuinely alien instead of just being those arachnid-like things. Like something you might expect to find in the bottom of the ocean.
It was a comfy movie user >Chad main character and Stacy gf and goofy sidekick best friend >Comfy opening where you see how life in on earth and get the fun high school scene and learn that democracy is shit >You get an event that changes everything for our main characters along with a sweet basic training scene >Cool space battles and lots of interesting side characters
It's basically the perfect popcorn flick

>Surprised that Casper Van Dien never had much of a career after this Pardon me?
We have already had societies where the citizens were a minority and also the military class.
They didnt last.
Nicholas Harris
The book isn't fascist. The people in charge never do anything wrong. So it's not realistic since no one abuses their power.
Wyatt Reed
he's only 6 years older than Van Dien, pretty crazy
Jaxson Phillips
>hitting a planet halfway across the galaxy with an asteroid >believable
Nathan James
You haven't read the book (and, ironically, neither did the director), so how would you know?
Carson Campbell
Maybe they purposely made them less efficient so more soldiers would die. Reminds me of deep rising, high capacity 1000 round mag but little knock down power. Old weapons from an old war, just like how they're using old training facilities(human dummies instead of arachnid). This movie is a fucking masterpiece though.
Andrew Wilson
Holy shit he was only 33 in Starship Troopers. Thats me in 7 years. He looks old enough to be my dad
Mason Brown
fuck off basedboy
Henry Walker
The war on bugs is just an excuse to trim down an over populated planet. Why would they send settlers and soldier on a barren planet while they have the ability to warp around the galaxy to find an earth like planet. It's just a big trim
You ever meet a mormon? They're a bunch of goofy bastards who do whatever der gawd(pastor) tells them to do which is why I always die laughing whenever I hear "too late".
Nathan Adams
The bug war is to reduce the numbers of would be citizens that arnt deemed fit. It's the infantry doing all the dying.
Michael Campbell
This
Joseph Myers
And yet Buenos Aires was destroyed killing millions. No one who has money wants to be a citizen anyways.
Isaiah Hughes
But it's also shown that to have children you need to serve in the military. So either the parents served or it's like our world where the wealthy find loopholes. Or maybe it's a one-child policy.
Austin Jackson
Probably deemed to be full of sub humans.
Joseph Cooper
In China you can pay to have more children but it costs money. Same as here. They are semi communist remember?
It's kind of shit. It's meant for boys. You will find it very juvenile if you are old enough to be aware that people in authority can abuse power.
Kayden Gutierrez
Idk man... pretty much everyone at that school was attractive. You really think a place that produces Johnny Rico's and carmen Ibanez's on the regular like that would be deemed sub human?
Ryan Jenkins
I see, fun fact according to the Amazon review section, some point out that it was on the USAF academy reading list.
Robert Martinez
or the bugs travelled to the solar system covertly, and moved one of our rocks
Mason Myers
Probably not producing enough psychics compared to Asia or Europe so they were deemed inferior. I bet the bugs got Africa too.
Ryder Nelson
Pretty sure verhoeven only read 2 chapters and put it down forever. He hated it.
Zachary Martin
In the book there were non-military occupations that a civilian could serve in to earn citizenship.
Luke Richardson
>thrust authority >being in the military is fucking awesome dude >civilians should kiss your feet. Not surprised it's on their reading list. If you have an IQ above 90 you might thinks its dumb.
no in the movie the lady said she joined the military so that she could have childen sooner. implying that civilians can have children they just have to cross more government red tape in order to do so.
Grayson Gray
>- what's the source of the conflict? why do the arachnids even attack humans via diversion of asteroids? mormon settlers violated the bug quarantine area.
Jose Phillips
>why do films glorify nationalism, war, heroism, and violence while purging the realistic death and horror inherent to it in an era where the military-industrial-corporate complex has near-total control of the government Gee whiz I wonder
Ethan Scott
Every troopers fan should see the 4k. It's like seeing it for the first time but make sure you have a 65"+.
Oliver Wood
Pretty sure this is glossed over in the movie too.
Ryan Morgan
The book is very clearly pro-fascism. They added satire to the movie
Kayden Harris
Not even a guarantee either. She just says it's a lot easier to get a license if you serve.
Hoo boy. Read some history and remember the phrase "MORMONS! DO YOUR DUTY!"
Ian Davis
people forget the book was the YA of its day, to be serialised in teen boy magazines. Compared to YA literature of now though, it's a masterpiece.
Daniel King

does the props and CGI still hold up or does it look ridiculous?
Ryder Diaz
Bugs dont have ftl. They would have had to have started their journey before humans invented fire.
Jayden Gomez
fuck off Verhoeven
Dominic Anderson
is that ever stated in the movie or book?
Michael Perry
Only if you have a disability. Scientists carrying out dangerous experiments on people could not earn citizenship. The people being experimented on could earn their citizenship that way.
Justin Price
oh yeah that's right.
Jordan Jackson
In the book the bugs have ftl. They are technologically advanced. They are also allied with the skinnies. In the movie they do not have ftl. They are limited by being an entirely organic hive. In the animated series they have ftl despite being entirely organic.
Hunter Sullivan
>They are also allied with the skinnies. who or what are they skinnies?
Isaiah Russell
Another alien species from the book.
Nicholas Bell
Yes and no. It's 1997 cgi but it's on Jurassic park level so it's still ok. Props, sets, models are all 10/10. The level of detail revealed on the disc is amazing, true native 4k also no upscale.
Hunter Howard
Dizzy was best girl, smol natural tiddies are always better than big but plastic ones
Josiah Collins
very interesting. thanks for pointing out, did not know that version existed.
Matthew Williams
Dizzy is wife but carmen is the one that makes the guy cheat. Especially prime 90s pre sheen Denise. Just go watch wild things unrated.
Asher Powell
Np man. I bought it day 1 and gave my old but still awesome blu ray to a friend. I've bought the movie 4 times now... definitely did my part lol.
Gavin Green
How sis Carmen survive her spaceship being blown up in space?
Budget, straight to DVD. The first one is a big budget film that came out at the wrong time that flopped. What did you expect? I mean the girl from nip tucks titties were nice.
Gabriel Thompson
The anime CGI movies and CGI Roughnecks are all pretty good. Roughnecks especially based.
Evan Richardson
Don't bring that up - it took me years to cleanse them from my memory.
Matthew Cruz
The was a wormhole on the skirts of Klendathu and the "bug zone" that IIRC exited somewhere around Mars.
Isaac Walker
It has been forever since I've seen it but I don't remember the escape pod stuff. I just remember her ding devoured by flames.
>So why was the second movie so extremely shit? The original was directed by Paul Verhoeven and had a huge budget for the time. We're just lucky that the first one was as good as it was, because you won't be getting anything like it ever again.
Thomas Gomez
Did you even finish the movie? The part you're referring to is at the end of the battle of klendathu when the Rodger young is hit by plasma.
Nolan Gray
That was the first hit they took that only slightly damaged the ship. The second time they get hit the ship breaks in half and they have to rush to the escape pod. Also the captain woman gets cut in half by a blast door.
Michael Ward
>What made this movie so great? The script was not polluted with things that didn't belong in it
Zachary Cruz
Personally was big into Starcraft as a kid when I first watched it and it blew my mind how it was basically a realistic depiction of Terran vs Zerg. Still love it to this day for that reason
Nicholas Martin
>amazing effect. Shoot the Bugs look fucking great even to this day. What the fuck happened to Cinema
Carter Reed
>what's the source of the conflict? why do the arachnids even attack humans via diversion of asteroids? It's a false flag to get humanity into a war with the bugs. It's a parallel to the Reichstag fire. Everything is pretty much a satire of fascism.
Ryder Bennett
Still not sure why there hasn't been a live action starcraft movie. The franchise is basically designed to spit out fun action adventure films.
Brody Phillips
they were first allied to the bugs, then after a human raid, to the humans, and shared important intel to both, during their alliance.
they are very tall, skinny and "more collectivist than humans, but less than bugs", and apparently do not have a particularly strong military
Dylan Perez
It's cheaper to do CGI.
Obviously nobody bothers with animatronics anymore, but even just rewatch the Klendathu scenes again and try think of a single modern blockbuster that has a physical set that large or that many real extras in one shot.
Leo Green
The scene where the bugs attack the outpost just reminds me of another movie trope-in this one, the military are the "cowboys" & the bugs are the "indians". This movie was pretty much average with mostly terrible acting, but the bugs were pretty good. Try "Cowboys & Aliens" for a better movie.
Dominic Ortiz
At least try with your bait, fag.
Austin Reed

Aiden Reyes
Recently found out that Starship Troopers is the favorite movie of Takashi Miike, and more surprisingly, Tom Hanks.
The bugs were CGI though weren't they? Still look great, sorta like an Iron Man 1 vs the modern stuff kind of thing
Camden Thompson
I recommended anyone who enjoyed the film (and even those who didn't) to read the far more interesting book. It's an awesome boys own adventure with dudes in robotic suits obliterating aliens with nuclear missile launchers and flame throwers. It's a shame that we will likely never get a film of that instead of a weak satire that I imagine went over the heads of most people who saw it anyway.
David Collins
It’s very different than the movie. A lot more about the making of a soldier than the war itself. Heinlein was a navy man during korea. The respect he had for Marines and the fighting force of the Chinese and Best Korea is evident in his writings, despite what some poltard will tell you. His other novels have themes of communism too. He seems similar to Orwell IMO in that I don’t think Heinlein was pro communism, but it seemed like he recognized some of its strengths.
Blake Walker

There are hero moments in real wars, you know?
Levi Brown
>mfw I didn't realize Casper Van Dien is as short as I am until I saw this pic and looked it up
Small-minded people say it's fascist, because they can't handle the idea of a new form of government, so they try to pidgeonhole it into something they already know. In other words, it's not fascism- Heinlein was describing a NEW form of government, and it is translated that way into the film. The film is a total mockery of the novel, and I feel offended on behalf of dead Heinlein, a great writer. At first, I liked the film, but the more I observe other people's take on it, the more I hate it. The novel is mostly a sober, coming-of-age story, with very little about actual battle. It's great. It discusses personal responsibility, what makes and breaks the society, what creates value. It answers why we need soldier when we have nukes, and what it means to be a soldier. You are objectively wrong.
Thomas Taylor
>realistic conflict >throwing thousands of lives away on ground assaults >not primarily using superior air power it's only realistic if you assume that the Federation deliberately killed off grunts for population control and fueled the war to give purpose to its existence.
Daniel Mitchell
How ignorant do you have to be to believe that development of sentience requires bipedal locomotion and hands?
I'm 6'1. I'm just saying it's ok to be short if your face is as aesthetic as rico.
Juan James
(cont.) If you're not going to read the novel, at least read the wikiquote. en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Starship_Troopers In both the film and in the novel, there's a scene where a trainee asks why they're learning to throw knives when they can just drop nukes at the press of a button. The film makes this into a funny, but stupid joke by having the trainer throw a knife into the guy's hand. In the novel, the response is an eloquent paragraph about the purpose of soldiers and war- to produce controlled violence. "...War is not violence and killing, pure and simple..." It's an example of how the film drained the source material of everything intelligent and interesting.
Because it would be rewritten-sjw friendly garbage lore/universe like warcraft turned out to be.
Jacob Green
Only if you look like rico. Are you brain damaged user? It doesn't matter what your height is if you're ugly as fuck.
Kayden Cooper
Wrong. From all we know the absolute majority of bugs live in underground tunnels and are therefore inaccessible to large scale surface bombardment. Furthermore, the thousands of lives lost is exactly what one would expect from a challenging ground invasion, think D-Day, 1944.
Gabriel Ramirez
I honestly can't think of a single shot that didn't age well.
Joshua Johnson
This isn't canon, in the film Carmen literally says the bugs haven't developed interstellar travel and the humans have, this conclusively proves it was an inside job
Brayden Johnson
>Small-minded people say it's fascist, because they can't handle the idea of a new form of government, so they try to pidgeonhole it into something they already know. I think liberal retards or conservative cucks (such as yourself) are too afraid to admit that they like NS because they've been brainwashed to believe that NS is evil and as such the government in ST can't be NS because it's not evil and evidently works.
If the government in ST is not NS, then what is it? And please do not say lolbertarian
6'1 is the perfect height. Taller than pretty much every girl but not a freak. Anything above 6'2 is a freaklet. Marfan syndrome looking ass.

Christopher Collins
Yeah? How is his transition going so far?
Jackson Jackson

>If the government in ST is not NS, then what is it? And please do not say lolbertarian I JUST SAID it's new in that post! It doesn't have a name. The government is not totalitarian. There is no fuehrer. People are only allowed to participate in society if they have demonstrated a concern for the society. It is also everybody's right, no matter the race, to be given an opportunity to serve the society. Nobody cares if you're Jewish, Gypsy, homosexual, Muslim, or whatever. Your rights won't be taken away. You're allowed to believe whatever you want.
>I think liberal retards or conservative cucks (such as yourself) are too afraid to admit that they like NS because they've been brainwashed to believe that NS is evil and as such the government in ST can't be NS because it's not evil and evidently works. Strawman. Grow up.
Ayden Butler
>stratocracy. Confirmed for not actually reading the book.
Jason Perez
Your stupidity knows no bounds I see.
Charles Bell
>stratocracy You have zero grounds to come ro that conclusion. Except that it was founded by disgruntled veterans, much in the same way NS Germany came to be. Military service isn't even required to be elected on the Federal xounxil or as a Chancellor. And if we go back in time, the formation of the Terran Federation is errily similoar to how NatSoc Getmany came to be. AND to top it all of, we have the Marxists in that one, too. As for the similiarities, I can think of quite a few

You also missed the part where currently serving military members can't vote or hold office. It breaks the fundamental condition for stratocracy, which is that the government is the the military. Dude is a retard.
Xavier Watson
>black guy whips rico What did they mean by this?

1. Define "totalitarian" without using wiki, please 2. So? There is a leader all the same. 3. So did NS Germany 4. Bugs? The principle is on a human scale rather than ethnic, but it's all the same 5. Yes, because it's on a human scale, not a German one. 6. Same as NS

It has a subtext that’s shallow enough for film geeks to understand it, and that makes them feel smart.

For sure. It was a good time to be alive in 1998.

they cut this scene, probably because she looked a bit uncomfortable.
You lack a basic understanding of NS and fascist political philosphy, buddy. The core tenant of NS and fascism is that the individual only has value when he is part of the collective and works for the greater good for the collective. Inversely, anyone who goes against the good of the collective or who is outside of the collective is an adversary. SST's society embodies this tenant by denying rights and power to people who do not contribute to the collective through service and would not die for the collective. The second tenant is that society can only progress and better itself though adversity and conflict. This theme is touched on many times throughout the book, however the most explicit instance is where Rico observes a planet whose life forms are primarily pond scum and muses over the fact that because the planet's sun was not strong enough damage the DNA and cause mutations of the life forms, they stagnated and failed to evolve. Classic NS philosophy right there.
Aiden Hernandez
Plot twist. Because of that scene the fight between zander and rico was real.
Cooper Long
But he did have sex with her in the end though right? Because at the ball she says to him that her dad isn't home. Which ironically makes more sense if they hadn't cut this scene where she references her dad.
Cooper Mitchell

>But it's also shown that to have children you need to serve in the military. Wrong, it's said that Federal Service (which isn't exclusive to the military) makes getting a license easier.
Ethan Hughes
Wrong
Oliver Foster
>1. Define "totalitarian" without using wiki, please Stop being coy and cut to the discussion. You look it up in the wiki, and tell me how it applies to the federation described in the novel. >2. So? There is a leader all the same. There's no cult of personality. Fuehrerprinzip. They don't swear an oath to the leader. They don't say Heil Hitler in their military communications. They don't read some autobio written by him. They don't listen to his grand speeches. They don't have grand rallies and stand at attention for him. >3. So did NS Germany You could join the Nazi party without having served the society. >4. Bugs? The principle is on a human scale rather than ethnic, but it's all the same >5. Yes, because it's on a human scale, not a German one. >6. Same as NS Try being socialist, communist, homosexual, physically or mentally disabled. Try being a woman. Try criticizing Hitler, the leadership.
the reason you still see buildings standing is because they didnt use thermite to drop the buildings at free fall speeds.

>The core tenant of NS and fascism is that the individual only has value when he is part of the collective and works for the greater good for the collective. Inversely, anyone who goes against the good of the collective or who is outside of the collective is an adversary. Exactly. This is not the society described in the novel. >SST's society embodies this tenant No. The power of franchise granted in ST is not a reward for service. It's not about determining who's the good guy and the bad guy in the society. It's a responsibility given to those who have demonstrated concern for the society. In the novel, they actively discourage people from joining the military service. Why? Because they are filtering for people who really care about the society. It's recognizing and embracing the fact that some people do not care beyond themselves. They just don't participate in the government, but they have all other rights. They're not "adversaries."
Tyler Gray
I'm making a joke in that Buenos Aires always look like that...
Jackson Rogers
You suck at making jokes user. Please reconsider your life.
Jonathan Robinson
ah, well in the movie it said 60 million dead. sorry the joke went over my head heh
Oliver Gomez
There is no leader principle for one. Then there's the fact that there is no "people" whether in the ethno or civnat sense that the state acts in the name of.
Jaxson Scott
tfw you will never live like there is no tomorrow and shower and have sex with squad mates. On the other hand, I heard there is enough shagging when you sign up for US military.
Yeah it's heavily implied. They fucked. Watch the deleted scenes and it shows carmen and zander getting all cleaned up after more implied sex. She fucked both of them. I just meant it as in real life... because I'm pretty sure the zander actor and denise richards were married.

Arguing over semantics which are not entirely true even. First, the goal of Hitler was to establish said community. Going against the interests of yhat community doesn't create "adversaries" simply because you were not allowed to do so. If you were a corrupt capitalist profiting off the backs of your workforce, of course you will not be allowed to do so. But that doesn't mean you'll have no rights. I fail to see how this differs, at all. There is not nearly enough details given about the intricacies of the ST political system adide from the basics. Classic NS philosophy right "The Lord has not helped a lazy man. He does not help a coward. He does not help a people that cannot help itself" "Socialism is the final concept of duty, the ethical duty of work, not just for oneself but also for one's fellow man's sake, and above all the principle: Common good before own good, a struggle against paratism and especially against easy and unearned income. Arguing with you is pointless. It's obvious your knowlesge on these matters extends as far as what some liberal student has written on wiki
Nicholas Hill
Yeah you're right it's the children why these movies make billions. What a genius.
Blake Jenkins
Sure, but the leader principle is not required in NS at all. As for your second point - the government and society are quite obviously human centric

The first hour does show things of the war. From the characters you get their sense of glorification yet as a viewer you are constantly shown bits and pieces that prepare you for the brutality that this war apparently is. I do agree that the scale of brutality is a lot higher than anticipated.
Jonathan Lewis
the one to two "token" women who joined the army because they are part of an "army family" or some bs are all just wanting to get gangbanged by all of the black army dudes. soon they get tatted up, roided up, and either turn into men or have mental breakdowns. nytimes.com/2019/05/02/us/military-sexual-assault.html yeah , you think a false rape allegation in civilian court is bad. not going to be nicer in a court martial. with some bitch prosecutor. then you'll be in some military prison. not like regular jail at all. where you could get parolled or pardoned or the bitch tells her friend she made it all up and they let you out. no, she has to stick with it otherwise they will kick her out of the army.
Ian Morgan
Heinlein might not like that his Starship Trooper society is seen as Nazi, since he's described them in another novel as "political thugs." People should read his other novel, Stranger in a Strange Land, which he paused working on while he wrote Starship Troopers, which is all about the main character that grew up among aliens on Mars coming to earth and spreading hippyism. >the government and society are quite obviously human centric I assumed earth didn't have aliens in it as a matter of geometry. They're also shown to not know much about the aliens, so they probably didn't have time to mingle. I don't think the novel mentions humans living with aliens in offworld colonies, but I don't remember the society having "human centric" ideology either. They're shown to value alien lives- they intentionally do not attack non-combatant aliens, even though barely distinguishable soldiers might be hidden among them. And the entire point of Starship Troopers is that they exist as the alternative to nukes, which cause too much collateral damage. I seriously doubt Heinlein's vision of the Starship Troopers society includes alien citizens (or civilians) being put in concentration camps for no reason other than that they're alien.

thats the only real benefit to having women in the military yea, everyone fucks them eventually.

That was amazing to you? Does your mom tell you when to pee? And that's amazing too I'm sure.
Jaxson Allen
whatever you, do DO NOT watch the '20th anniversery edition' of this movie. All they've done is increase the bloom and sharpness effect, it looks like shit compared to the original blu ray release.
With women you twit, let go of stereotypes and baseless ASSumptions, that have no basis in reality. I had more sex in the military than I did in college.
If you never did, it is clear that you don't know.
Idk what that user is talking about. Maybe he hasn't learned his TV has settings yet. The 4K is godlike.
Zachary Ortiz
>humanity uniting to fend off an invasive species of cannibal bugs >men and women rising to the occasion and becoming the best they could possibly be yea it was pretty amazing
Nolan Perry
yes its dog shit. All they've done is increase the sharpness bloom, its not true 4k.
There was a '20th anniversery edition' of starship troopers that was released back in 2017. There wa excessive bloom and sharpening effect used, and it looks like shit compared to the original blu ray release.
It is definitely true 4K and you have no idea what you're talking about. I seriously believe you have no idea how to use your TV settings.

tongue in cheek satirical quality with the newsreels as OP said over the top action and gore good CGI (for its time) and most important ridiculously attractive young people and nudity

going to the British National museum and seeing the renaissance art followed by the 18th century shit is truly eye opening. The lack of talent and acceptance of mediocrity started even back then. Picasso and Van Gogh are fucking hacks.

Are you implying you get more pussy than Casper Van Dien because you're taller than him? It doesn't matter what size you are with a face like yours.
