Because fans like Lagertha/Bjorn and he is their enemy? That Lagertha is the rightful ruler of Kattegat?
Honestly, he is one of the only reasons I watched the show after Ragnar’s death.

I assumed that in the first season Ragnar was actually around 18 or so, just because of how young Vikings tended to start families. So Lagertha might only be in her 30's or 40's, which would track.
But that's just an assumption, I could well be wrong and it's just favourite actor wank.

Bjorn is around 12 in the first episode. That would put Ragnaar and Lagertha at the very least 26 if we say they had him at 14 and at most 30 if they had him at 18.
If we're being conservative with estimates then Ubbe is 20 and was born at the end of season 1.
Putting Lagertha between 46 - 50 if we're going with the absolute youngest she can be.

Ívarr hinn beinlausi sounds more like Ivar the Legless. "Bein" sound like "Ben" which means both leg and bone, whereas "lausi" sounds like "lös" that can mean witheout. So either "Ivar witheout legs" or "Ivar the Boneless".
i'm swedish and this makes sense to me, but if you compare this to the other nordic languages, especially islandic, you'll notice that it all fits.

i think the issue is less of the actual translation and more the implication, i suspect it was a ironic nickname for the times, for example in british english "legless" means someone is so drunk that they can barely walk
