Evangelion 2 is clear Lilith and Adam having an excess of fruit on a side isn't natural once you clear Rei's and Kaworu's endings. It had Lilith's body unable to heal (her goal is becoming one with Adam to heal together and fuck lilin up, but this is stopped by developed a human personality - Rei II) and affected Adam's memories and ultimate purpose which she (or he, considering is Kaworu at the moment) recovers.

It's Yui who wants to ascend to godhood with the other 7 seeds, so this all was to prove the existence of lilin capable of doing that too. Gendo is naturally less of a manipulated man in love in Rebuild and steps up as main villain, but in the classic, he got rejected by Adam, Lilith and Yui (Eva) in EoE that's the significant of the trio scene with them. The mothers turn down the father and choose to "become one" with his son, and this union Shinji has with those three, the world is reborn again.

I'm not a weeb, just saw NGE + EoE for the first time on Netflix, loved it, so I watched the rebuilds, and I thought they sucked. They lack everything I loved about the original, which was the atmosphere, the focus on characters, and the deeper themes being represented. The rebuilds are just action schlock. If you want to watch it for meaningless anime giant mecha fights, go for it. Otherwise, don't bother.
