Getting bored to death

Being a Japan obsessed weeaboo for the rest of your life

What's with all the weeb shit?

capeshitter detected

Why are the japs so based?

>classic auteur made cinema
>weeb shit
The absolute fucking state of this board

Nah, this nigger clearly ordered 90% Jap because he's a weeb.

>dood i friggin love Japan so kawaii!

I actually just went into B&N to grab Yojimbo and Sanjuro and figured, fuck it, might as well grab a bunch of shit I love but don't own (Zatoichi, the Kurosawa films, 12 Angry Men). I've been meaning to watch more golden age Japanese cinema since I've always loved what I have seen.

What makes a white male (incel) become obsessed with a culture that has nothing in common with their own

>the basic bitch copy of Tokyo Story
look at this pleb and laugh

how do you have the money for this

>What makes a white male (incel) become obsessed with a culture that has nothing in common with their own
incelhood is the cornerstone of Japanese culture

A lonely death.

What's wrong with that edition of Tokyo Story?

I'm white and have a job, neetcel

a lot of reading

My ancestors were Italian and Spanish peasants. I grew up in the third world.
I was obsessed with pre 20th century literature. I love everything about Medieval Europe. Why does anyone ever enjoy shit you fucking moron.

Do people have much in common with space rocks or fish? Here's your (You).

>only watch stuff made by Westerners
>never learn anything about anything else

Why are Americans like this?

Looks like a lot of shameful shameful weebery and then 12 Angry Men which is kino.

>Kurosawa
>lauded and one of the greatest directors in history by film makers from all cultures
>weeb

is that a fake box yellowing on yojimbo? why?

It's just a sepia tone case.

A good nap

should have just torrented yojimbo and sanjuro and forgotten about the rest.

Nice haul, I'm very jealous. I had to go off old DVDs and sub-par rips when writing my postgrad thesis on postwar Japanese cinema, I would've killed for Criterion versions.

B&N 50% off CC this month.

The films he's watching highlight the basic human struggles across all cultures, you fucking pleb.

And most of those swordplay movies are Westerns.

>criterion release of lady snowblood
fucking kek. enjoy your movie looking like a shitty watercolor painting.

>12 Angry Men which is kino.
it's decent, not kino. its statement on the judicial system is very straightforward and the direction reeks of stageplay. imdbcore that is inferior to dozens of films from that decade. You're correct on the overabundance of japshit though. American and European cinema has always been leagues above Asian.

>No Mikio Naruse films
You've disappointed me, OP

Naruse comes right after entry level jap kino.

>LOOK HOW COOL AND BADASS THOSE SAMURAIS ARE

The farther away from WWII you get in Japan the less Samurai films are period dramas and the more the films become genre action schlock.
You'll be able to see that transition in things like sword of doom, three outlaw samurai, lady snowblood, sanjuro, and yojimbo.

zatoichi is fucking great(particularly kitano's entry), so is seven samurai, and pretty much most samurai films

the rest of this won't probably end up being very interesting to a westerner

where's the mega link

odd how this redditor misses kagemusha, good film, if you don't mind a slow build

I've reported this thread because you gays are actually discussing good movies

On what metric? He doesn't get near as much attention as his postwar co-workers

I dunno. I got it all from a website that creates custom subs for unknown films.

Post screenshots displaying the difference between the criterion and regular.

The silent Ozu is the most interesting thing there to me. I Was Born But... is my favorite film of his, especially with the Donald Sosin score.

Leave this thread immediately if you haven't seen this masterpiece.

I’m white and I have a job, I could afford to maybe buy 20% of this without being like what the fuck am I doing.

I hope you also watched the second 9 hour trilogy.

Attached: Untitled.jpg (786x127, 40K)

What sites that, friend?

The one with the bird, of course.

it's not the fancy double disc set that is the same price as the normal edition. lacks some of the special features iirc.

>by what metric
The nips themselves.
Naruse is almost as entry level as they come. Not that he's bad, in fact I think Scattered Clouds is criminally underrated.

I haven't seen 5 but the rest of those are great.

imagine not knowing about capaholics, you should probably do some research on the media you're buying if you actually don't want to look retarded showing off the crappy editions you picked up

caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go=1&a=0&d1=7269&d2=7000&s1=68976&s2=66047&i=2&l=0

Zatoichi is the only series I can think of that doesn't have a single bad movie

Yikes. I own the criterion version of Eraserhead and it comes with instructions from David Lynch on how to properly calibrate your tv to watch movies the way the directors intended. Watching Eraserhead looked really great but I watched Lady Snowblood next and thought it looked crappy. Now I see why.

How in the fuck is this trilogy so overlooked?
imho one of the greatest, if not THE greatest, trilogies ever made. Tatsuya Nakadi's fucking phenominal.

God I love Masaki Kobayashi. Such an underappreciated director.

Is there a torrent or megalink with a bunch of these kinos?

It's hard to (legally) acquire, and most people are turned off by a 9 hour runtime. A shame, because it really is the greatest trilogy and one of the best war films of all time.

If 24 Eyes is among those 5 I highly suggest you watch it. It's interesting because the Japs still think of it as one of their bar none greatest films of all time but it's not received the same way in the west.
Bakumatsu taiyouden is kind of like that too but despite its title it's a satire of then contemporary politics. For me it was supremely boring.

Attached: i sort of get it.png (316x492, 176K)

yeah, Criterion can be pretty hit or miss with the stuff they release. Thief has a pretty garbage transfer as well, even though they advertise it as being "approved by Michael Mann himself!". it's still two films for $20 so i'm not that mad, but when you compare the Criterion release to the Arrow release, it feels like a slap in the face.

if you have a region free Blu-Ray player, you should check out some releases from Arrow and Masters of Cinema/Eureka! Video. pretty sure some of the stuff they put out have superior transfers compared to Criterion and they aren't half as expensive.

>It's hard to (legally) acquire
nigga you can watch the entirety of The Human Condition on youtube if you wanted. how is it hard to acquire?

Sword of Doom fucking sucks. It's literally an incomplete movie.
>Lmao I'm gonna fight this guy!
>Doesn't happen

I spent about $340 on movies this month. Only minor regret.

Oh shit, just checked, it's subbed and in an ok resolution too lel

youtube.com/watch?v=OJEOdPpFCjY

I've actually seen most of the chanbara films in the pile. I've seen the early dramatic works up through the 80s samurai grindhouse schlock and I love it all.
They didn't have Kagemusha or I would have gotten it. Ran, too.

I make six figures and don't have kids. I spend a lot on movies and import figures.

Was there a sale or something?

>It's hard to (legally) acquire
arrowfilms.com/product-detail/the-human-condition-trilogy-blu-ray/FCD1774

It was setting up for a sequel

Are Criterion sales a meme? The 50% is 20 bucks per film and they go around 23-25 bucks a pop on Amazon all year round, sometimes cheaper.

>weebshit
Yes, it is

>Zatochi
Nice

she cute

>11 Seething Brainlets

All Criterion editions are half off at Barnes and Noble. Stacks with other discounts if you're a member or have a coupon.

holy SOI

None of the films he posted are boring though

>there's no Ran or Harakiri (1962)
Nice bait pic OP, well played.

based retard jobbing clean to the wordfilter

You didn't get the good box set, idiot.

:) Based based retard poster.

I watched Seven Samurai last night, at 1:05 min in the village elder stole yoda's sad face Lucas should sue them

OG script for star wars was a space version of "Hidden Fortress", as the story evolved some things were cut then reused in the prequels so I was not confused about the princess switcharoo. In the og script the Luke character actually punches the princess Unconscious and tells her hand maiden to pretend o be her and the maid gets killed

It was a brick and mortar store, faggots. I bought what they had. I would have loved a copy of Ran. I've only ever owned a shitty VHS copy recorded off of TV.

>It was a brick and mortar store, faggots. I bought what they had. I would have loved a copy of Ran. I've only ever owned a shitty VHS copy recorded off of TV.
oh no no no no....

That's a pretty based collection

Kek, I first looked at that image and thought, "yeah, I'd probably do the same thing if I won the lottery". Then I looked closer and realized I'd seen all of those other than a couple, and would never randomly buy all that shit blindly.

How do we know he bought them and did not just take a picture at the store most ar ein shrink wrap

I rarely pay more then $5 for a DVD i have a few used DVD store and pawn shops ware i can buy movies pre shoplifted and sold to the store for 25 cetns

I did by the mythics 5 movie fantasy series at wall mart for $25 and Warcraft for $7 new both low end movies but i really liked them and bought them after i downloaded them

I got Eclipse 17 at a B&N, so whatever.
