Alien: Covenant

So I rewatched Alien: Covenant and I thought it was pretty damn good actually, a lot better than I remembered it for some reason. Yes, there are some stupid moments and the plot twist is totally expected but the atmosphere and visuals I found genuinely nightmarish. Will there be another or did it do too badly at the box office?

haven't watched covenant but i'm bored tonight and need a movie to watch. was it better than prometheus?

I liked it. There, I said it. Okay?

I honestly didn't hate it

I loved Prometheus and thought it wasn't as good, but it was a good film.

>or did it do too badly at the box office?
It did okay just not as amazing as they expected it. The next one needs to be really good so word of mouth gets around.

i can't believe they keep fucking up the movies. just rehash aliens with an all-star cast like avengers and it's free money

>the atmosphere and visuals I found genuinely nightmarish
The visuals were undoubtedly good but everything else was terrible - the characterization, the writing, the pacing

Prometheus started a bunch of plot threads that were aimed to potentially re-structure everything we knew about Alien(s) and then Covenant comes along, answers none of those plot threads, and seemingly paves over both Prometheus and Alien(s) in order to do its own dumb thing. Someone needs to tell Ridley Scott that he can't have what are essentially xenomorphs appear in Prometheus and then claim that they were invented decades later during the events of Covenant, I think he's getting senile.

>movie comes out
>its horrible
>4-6 years later people who watched it when they were 12-14 will start praising it on Yea Forums

every time

All of this, unfortunately. It's beautifully shot bullshit.

Yeah, watch it. Like I said there are some moments where you go "oh for fucks sake" but still creepy as fuck.

I liked that it was pretty tight at 2 hours, I thought the pacing was fine. Characters could have been stronger. Visuals and atmosphere top notch.

I just find watching modern Ridley Scott movies sad.

It's like you can still see the parts of a great filmmaker in there but like it has been corrupted by a shitty apathetic one. Growing old and tired sucks.

It’s good enough for me.

Did you notice that it follows the Old Testament in reverse? Danny McBride sending the ship to retrieve the crew during the storm is Noah, David and the other Android are Cane and Abel, the couple that get killed while fucking in the shower are Adam and Eve, and it ends with Genesis

so is the Alien franchise just designed to ridicule Evangelicals and brainwash us with evolution?

No? Evolution doesn't have anything to do with Alien as a franchise and doesn't contradict biblical teachings anyway. I'm not sure why people insist on it.

damn that's deep......

Just like Prometheus this movie was flawed but parts of it were fucking amazing. The opening and the two Davids scene was a better Blade Runner sequel than anything in the Blade Runner sequel and the middle act where it turns into the most based Hammer horror movie in history was awesome

But who would you cast as the alien?

Idris Elba

It's pretty much explained that natural xenos existed or still exist somewhere and engineers took the biological nanobot tech from them, imitating them, and David's creation is just the same because it's a perfect imitation.

Not me - fuck all redeemable in this POS.. lazy ass story, boring characters.. even Assbender looks bored in this too. You, know even Resurrection (yes, that fucking POS!!!) is btter than this..

That's what I assume has to be true, but Ridley Scott in interviews seems super confused about the whole thing and says otherwise.

Resurrection was funny as fuck. If you can't honestly unironically enjoy it then stop watching movies.

That’s exactly what they did with Covenant. Rehash Alien with a couple big-ish actors, and people still didn’t like it. The script was just bad and the continuity between Prometheus and Covenant was jaw droppingly fucked. Killing the Prometheus girl offscreen (and all the engineers on the planet before the movie started) felt like damage control of the nth degree after the backlash.

I don’t know what they should do for the next movie, but they need better writers and a solid script for once.

but Resurrection had qt pie winona ryder

How did David heal his under the chin wound?

No, it's terrible. The entire plot hinges on the characters being superhumanly retarded to the point it basically on happens because the author said so. Shit is fuckingterrible.

Covenant has always been kino.
Scott was doing something similar to the Tudor poet John Skelton, who put sophisticated concepts into the medium of doggerel as a sort of dialectical movement. Scott takes what essentially amounts to a medieval religious cycle play, mixes in some heavy existential themes like the inverted Pygmalion myth (David and Shaw) and the Nibelungen tradition filtered through Wagner, and puts it into the medium of cinematic doggerel - slasher horror. It's genius, and it is really enjoyable to watch if you're interested in historical literature.

It just looks low effort.

Most of the "plot" is just going through typical alien tropes and all the interesting lore stuff is glossed over at best.

The most interesting part of the entire thing is Weyland talking to David in the flashback.

Scarlett Johansen. she says she should have the right to play anything.

It doesn't contradict biblical teachings, no, but it contradicts American Evangelical teachings. Important distinction. The American "Christian" Right is neither Christian, nor, really, American, since they're essentially traitors and fiends wearing the clothes of men. Thomas Jefferson would be outraged, and rightfully so.

Evolution is absolutely contrary to their false gospel, but don't take that to be an attack on the faith. They're dangerous radicals and simpletons, like the Taliban, but with less fashionable hats.

Saw it in the theater and had no fucking clue what was going on, my own fault for not realizing it was a direct sequel to Prometheus, might have to check it out again now that I've seen Prometheus

So basically you were too young to be able to see Prometheus in Cinema, and you just outed yourself to be a barely 18.

How did David know Walter's access codes on the Covenant?

>The next one
kek
Disney owns Fox and, therefore, the Alien franchise. Expect a more woke PG-13 reboot with a tranny black protagonist and a new Weyland-Yutani company run by Trump's descendent. Also, the xenomorphs will be products of misogyny & racism for some reason.

Covenant is the "TLJ" of the Alien franchise.

It makes Prometheus look like a sci-fi master piece

That scene with the Neomorph and the girl's torn-off head bobbing in the water was creepy as fuck.

22 actually, just never realized it was one of the alien movies

The movie was shit. I don't know why you're revealing your fondness for it like it's some kind of revelation. Lots of people, probably even the majority of people who watch movies have shit taste.

It honestly feels like Ridley Scott was backtreading to try and reconcile what everyone already thought the origin should be from the get-go, that it's an artificial life form made by androids, but without throwing out Prometheus and shrank the universe down to about 30 people.
