Midsommar

Was this movie supposed to be somewhat funny? Dani’s parent dying in such an absurdly gratuitous way only for it to come up like two other times in the movie seemed like some kind of self aware joke. What was this movie trying to achieve?

Sneedsommar

The director said it was a dark comedy in it's own right. I personally loved it. The scene where the woman starts singing during sex had my whole theater dying.

I thought it was good but it suffered a bit from odd construction. Why the fuck was the death jump in the beginning? It was easily the most brutal part of the film.

Do swedes really throw their old ones down from cliffs?
What a fascinating and beutiful culture

kek i loved how her boyfriend was just like fuck get over it

Yeah why the fuck did they act like that was not a big deal and why did they continue to trust the cultists

I'm confused against this movie, did the man in the store knew that the fertilizers were setting him up?

Between stinky Florence and nudey Jack I was satisfied.

Can anyone explain the contrived, gratuitous murder suicide that has little effect on the rest of the movie? Having her parents die any other way would have been fine. It seems like a cheap way to disturb the audience.

Does anyone know what would happen if none of them fucked up? Would they just sacrifice their own or would they have roped some of the Americans into it somehow?

It was a metaphor for the holocaust.

So when that guy fucked that chick, what was the point? Were they secretly related and trying to make another oracle? Why did they show the Oracle looking all upset when it happened?

They mentioned that to avoid inbreeding they like to invite outsides so I think they just wanted another baby that wasn’t inbred since they already have an Oracle.

Dani is traumatised by the death of her family, she can't come to grips with their loss but also the extreme violence perpetrated by her own sister. Living in an atomised envionment and in a souless relationship with Chirs leaves her numb, you see how she's triggered by any mention of family. The images of their death haunt her throughout her visit, but the Hargas close empathy and outlook on sacrifice, life cycles and rebirth open's Dani up to accepting them as her home and family

In the leaked script, they don't state that their oracles are the product of inbreeding but the result of breeding disabled oracles with regular hargas to produce future disabled oracles. They probably changed it because the studio thought they would be criticised for ableism

This
People were chuckling here and there during the scene just from how uncomfortable it was but then that part starts and then you just see Chris's drugged out face staring at her and everyone lost it

movie was very predictable to me. The story literally plays out exactly as was shown on that quilt they showed and in the paintings on the wall of the dorm..The cinematography was great but also the run time made it all feel so self-indulgent.

And to think theres going to be an extended version.

Isn’t this pretty common in many pagan cultures? Not necessary jumping on a cliff but senicide one form or another

That's the point

Plots all fine and dandy until you realize the americans/english people's families will be looking for them and know exactly where they went, this cult is gonna go down in flames all because they don't know what a sperm bank is or how to court a woman normally.

that it's predictable and made me lose interest during the last 30minutes because everything was going exactly how i thought it would after seeing a scene during the first hour? Film failed to keep me on the edge of my seat.

Was it ever clarified how the two additional sacrifices happened? I mean the people with twig hands and fruit basket thing. I thought I missed something.

Yes you see the film was supposed to be dull

If they show you exactly what's going to happen in the beginning, you didn't predict anything

you are dumb she thought about it the entire time it completely haunted her. she cant even think of the word family without having a complete mental breakdown

they didn't show specifics, in the drawings on the quilt it was random people, not Christian and the redhead. On the drawing above dani's bed of that deity with a knife in her hand it didnt specifically depict a may queen that will soon have blood on her hands. And apart from that, those who werent assimilating get sacrificed, etc. I'm not tryign to say "oh man i'm so smart dude i booked the whole movie half way through" it's just my gripe with tis piece and it's annoying that i've been hearing people say "it's genre-breaking" and shit like that when it's subpar writing but good cinematography.
