Fellowship of the ring had several functional arcs that were introduced, developed, and concluded. Alita didn’t have a single functional arc. It was overflowing with filler characters and filler sequences leaving no room to develop anything. Alita barely gets any character development in her own movie. The lesson being, don’t waste half your movie sequel baiting if you don’t have enough time left over for an actual movie.

Its like we watched a different movie, did you miss all of the flashback scenes? because there certainly helped with her character development over the movie, taking her from naive cyborg girl to a battle angle, by the end of it.

I'm no reditfag. I loved the movie and I've read through the manga. But they changed a ton of stuff in the movie it almost wouldn't make sense to have a huge motorball arch or to go into the barjack wars.

The flashback scenes didn’t develop anything and just added more questions the movie wasn’t going to answer. Alita training in zero gravity, failing to climb the wire, etc don’t tell the audience anything they didn’t already know from the moon flashback. Not to mention alll the flashbacks together account for less than a minute of the movie.
