They ate algae afterwards. Probably got nutrients from recycled shit

Recycled poop. Think about it, they use the human waste as fertilizer in the hydroponics ship, those plans suck up the liquid dumps and people eat the plants.

season 1&2 were so fucking good.

how did the show become so bad later on?

they gave in to their metaphysical boner and went full Moses allegory.

They press the algae into wafers called Onions Green. It's ethical and fun.

there was a whole episode of the fleet running out of food wasn't there?

>What do they eat?
Hopefully full stores of survival rations and canned goods.. Civilization with literal space navy is likely to have some

They processed seaweed from a water planet, before that, they were eating paper, before that, they were eating the rations they got from Ragnar Station, before that, life was normal and they were eating whatever it was they were eating.

I might have made a mistake. They got ammunition and supplies from Ragnar station, like ballistics and weapons or whatever. Galactica probably had emergency rations that they gave out to the other ships.

They had agro-ships that looked somewhat like the ones from the movie "Silent Running". So they grew produce.

One later got nuked by a cylon.

I'm sure the station would've had other basic wartime supplies like medicine, food rations, water, etc. The way they set it up in an ion storm to protect it from the Cylons, it makes sense to have it stocked with a bit of everything in case of emergencies.

I'm 7 episodes into Season 1 right now, haven't seen it in years. Still holds up really well, I wish modern TV shows could manage to deliver this kind of quality and storytelling.

Something about the story of a fleet of ships lost in space, struggling to survive, it's a setup I really enjoy. Are there any other similar series/films that compare, aside from Star Trek: Janeway Edition?

That's true but if you believe Ronald D Moore he had no plan for the overarching narrative of the show whatsoever except he wanted to end it with the 12 Colonies survivors being the ancestors of humanity which was utterly retarded. So even if Moore had appointed and retained talented writers throughout the duration of the show it would still have had a fundamentally stupid ending
