Just watched shoplifters for the first time and am amazed.

Its pure kino

I wonder how they make little kids like the one in the movie to act. Can she even fully understand what is acting?

It was a thread like this that fooled me into watching this sequel to Nobody Knows.

Koreeda is the comfiest director in kinoma. could watch that guys movies every day.

Those two kids impressed me with their acting as well, the whole thing felt so natural.
It reminded me of the kid in the shining, I always thought the acted his role really good aswell.

Guys what kinos released in 2018/2019 are on equal footing or better than shoplifters and give some thoughts on why.
>Shoplifters
>Good pacing
>Superb acting
>Good story/extremely relatable
>Lots of little details
>Steady comfy soundtrack

No.Its not. First reformed and Burning is better

I haven't seen Shoplifters yet ,but I would recommend:
>An Elephant Sitting Still
4 hour movie that takes place across one day, but never feels boring (although at the end of the film everyone is exhausted by the day's events and the film makes you feel it). The four main characters are all compelling, whether it's the old guy who doesn't want to be put in a home or the girl having an affair with her teacher, the criminal who fucked his friend's wife and then his friend committed suicide that day, or the kid who thinks he's going to jail for pushing another kid down a staircase. The ending is pure anticlimactic art house trope but it's great.
>Insect
Jan Svankmajer's final feature film is a meta film about characters putting on a play, interrupted by documentary style interviews with Svankmajer and the cast, and also by random shots of how they accomplished the special effects. It's fucking hilarious, especially when Svankmajer starts talking about how he wrote the script for the movie in one day.
>Shadow
I'll commit heresy and say this is actually better than Hero. It looks the most stunning out of all of Zhang's wuxia/historical epics. The combat umbrellas are a little silly, but they look cool. This movie ends the way Game of Thrones should have ended.

Im going to check those out.
I've heard alot about an elephant sitting still and was planning to watch that next anyway.

it's your run of the mill Kore-Eda film
if you liked it, you should also check out

Literally no plot. It was even worse than Roma if you can believe it.

But why was roma black and white? Totally pretentious

LOL. This thread is for adults, amigo. Exit stage left. Preferably, chased by a bear.

I'd put Shoplifters over Burning. Loved them both but Shoplifters has more emotional pull. Burning has the better sequence with the girl dancing. Both are great films.

My problem with First Reformed is half the damn film was taken from Bergman. I still have love for First Reformed but Schrader did not transcend Winter Light, merely copied it.

Unrealistic, there is literally no poverty in large japan cities, people would have noticed something was wrong with the kid

burning is a lot better

Burning is great

First Reformed is atrocious

>there is literally no poverty in large japan cities
t. city council struggling to get their budget approved

Burning was great because it basically went the Michelangelo Antonioni route in the end

> Unrealistic, there is literally no poverty in large japan cities
Or maybe Japan is not 100% like your favorite anime

those people have mental illness/addiction and because of that, no support from their families

This has to be one of the gayest post ive read all day.

>ugh they're not real homeless people??
I fucking hate the insane romanticism you people project on homelessness.

what a retarded post

>le ebin billy shakes reference

interesting. thanks for the rec umbrella bro

>boring
>obscure
>foreign
ah... a r*ddit thread.

Getting kids to act naturally is Koreeda's specialty. I read that he doesn't give them a script and doesn't tell them what to say. He only explains to them what's going on in the scene, so he basically just lets them do their thing and the adult actors go along with whatever they do.

>watching kino in low quality on your laptop
You share a board with these plebs.

Do you guys think she dated her autistic mega fan, Mr. 4?

burning is the best movie of 2018-2019

Oh wow. The parks in the outskirts of Tokyo are full of homeless people. The reason you don't see them is because they're too ashamed to show themselves in public, let alone beg for money or help. They try to stay out of sight most of the time.

>NOOOOOOOO YOU CAN'T TALK ABOUT ART ON MY BLACKED.COM SNEEDPOSTING BOARD, LET'S TALK ABOUT HOW JUMP SCARES ARE AWESOME AGAIN

Not everyone is able to download autistic 4K remux torrents like you, cunt. And not everyone has a big screen TV to watch their films on. Stop being pretentious.

So far yes. But I'm waiting for The Lighthouse and Parasite

id normally say burning is the biggest bullshit movie this site has ever memed but no its the greatest, I want you to waste, I mean watch this movie because I fucking hate.. I mean love you. yes, watch burning...…..

do you find this anyway clever or funny?
