I live in Austin. It's been common practice in most American cities since crime went down and white-flight started reversing in the 2000s. They realized they would no longer have an iron grip on power if those white people (as most are) were conservative. They needed to make the city intolerable for anyone that didn't have the "progressive" blinders on.

The more popular the city is, the more intolerable they have to make it.

These are good places to live until you're about 28, terrible idea to spend your 30s there unless you've lucked into a $120,000+ salary and you can find a wife that will put you around $200,000 household income. All the fun shit gets old after a while, becomes more and more expensive, and eventually you need to stop living with roommates. Too many people stay in SF, NY, LA, DC past their sell-by date and are still chasing college dreams at 33.

Politicians -- generally of the Democrat slant -- understand that if you keep people down and promise it will get better, it keeps them in office.

However, if people start realizing that they politicians do not have their best interest at heart but care more about staying in power, they would, ideally, start voting them out. But, you get large swathes of idiots about who keep voting due to a promise of handouts and it'll rarely happen, sadly.

My girlfriend and I visited the state of Washington last year and it is absolutely beautiful. Seattle, Tacoma, Olympia, Forks(Ford?); the list goes on. The homeless people I encountered kept to themselves on street corners. I encountered one Antifa pop up group outside Pike's Place protesting animal cruelty/food processing, but even they were just passive. I was only there for two weeks, but even with its faults--which you'll find in any city (I'm a Columbus native)--it's a very beautiful, lively and friendly place. Don't let the internet sully you on it. Get on a Greyhound, find an airbmb, and go explore it for yourself.

I think a lot of the homeless problem on the west coast stems from the legalization of marijuana. You have hordes of homeless people from the midwest/east coast coming here in recent years because they think they can get jobs trimming in northern california but they just end up on the streets of san fran doing heroin because they're lazy assholes.

The cops arrested him and asked us to file a report so he would be arrested, the detective wanted us to do it really badly and he just seemed sick of this shit in general. Then literally 4 hours later they called us and said they had to let him go, and the detectives voice sounded like he was on the brink of rage. The bureaucracy in liberal cities is absolutely batshit insane, I only assume they have a no arrest order on the vagrants here as it will make them look bad politically.

Since 2008, I have been coming to Seattle regularly for work. I have spent over a year there over the past decade. I stay at the Fairmont. I give money to the Aquarium. I'm a patron of PNB. There are parts of the city I love, and its natural beauty , for a big city, is unrivaled.

But "factually" how is it the best. You would have to be truly fucking blind to not appreciate that, for example, while the commercial rents increase every year on capitol hill, as do the number of tweakers. While there are plenty of developments being bought by chinese money, there's a rot at the very core of the city.

I live on the olympic peninsula and can confirm it's one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Lots of great lush green forests, mountain trails, crystal clear lakes, and oceans with decent fishing. If you have a boat you can go sale along the nearly untouched san juan islands.
