Don't forget City of Angels, peak comfy to watch with your girl.

Because the 90s was the golden age for action movies. Now we just have capeshit and cartoons

the rock > con air > face off
they're all good tho

The Rock is one of the best action films of all time and Bay's only good film.

>tfw they say the name of the movie in each one of these movies

Attached: 1488600161275.gif (500x500, 2.51M)

the 90s were peak campkino

Because he literally takes every role he gets offered

Con Air is a masterpiece. His crowning achievement. More respectful than his Oscar

>bays only good film
what is bad boys also 13 hours
also say what you want about bay but he has a very distinct, energetic and slick style, more than can be said for most action directors these days.

>I'm gonna take his Face/Off!
>Welcome to Con Air!
>Welcome to The Rock!

The last two are especially kino.

Pain and Gain is unadulterated goodness, friend.

He does now but not back then

>want to watch Con Air
>friend says it's shit (has been saying it since i mentioned it 6 months ago)
>watch Con Air yesterday
>it's kino

why do zoomers hate fun? they think if it ain't a superhero movie then there shouldn't be anything funny in it

Well 90's cinema was more kino even when the movies were meant to be average, they still had decent directors, writers and cinematographers.

Dave Chappelle is great in conair , I forgot he was even in it

>I wanna take his face.... off...

Three best Jim Carrey´s movies were made within one year

boy you are one skinny negro !

ace ventura is definitely not in his top 3

fuck you, it's easily top 3 after Truman Show but before Dumb and Dumber.

You're right, Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls is.

i guess you never watched The Mask

I did and it's #4.

Can't cage the Cage

That was just before Meg busted her face right?

fuck you

Well, maybe, but it was definetely his peak year.

>Sorry Rick, ya got Snake Eyes

>"But I'm WILD AT HEART!"

what are some underrated cage movies? i'm asking for 100% legit underrated stuff, not movies that only you liked

Attached: drive angry.jpg (675x1000, 138K)

Out of his recent stuff, Between worlds is genuinely good.
I don't recommend watching the trailer for it before deciding if you want to watch it or not.
Just watch the first 10 minutes or so, if those dont catch your attention, don't bother with the rest.

I dunno if Lord of war can be considered underrated or not, everyone seems to like it but at the same time not that many people actually watched it

Attached: nicolas-cage-between-worlds.jpg (800x433, 125K)

she was so cute back then

Attached: Meg-Ryan-Ditching-Plastic-Surgery-PP.jpg (540x400, 42K)

Pain & Gain is too good to say something that faggy

Bad Lieutenant, 8mm, snake eyes, Mom and Dad, Joe are not going to be the first Nic Cage movies people think of when they think Nic Cage, so I'd call them underrated. The truly shit movies are what stays in obscurity though

Con Air > The Rock > Face/Off > Broken Arrow

THE LAST MOHICAN IS BURNIN MAN

How's Bad Lieutenant? I only ever saw the original with Keitel.

It's a shame he gets killed off so relatively early in it.

i'll watch it next week

Liar Liar >>>>>> Ace Ventura

MEMPHIS RAINES

Bring Sally up
Bring Sally down

Why was the 90's full of Cage kino? What happened at the turn of the century?

You dissing Gone in 60?

>best of cage
>no vampires kiss

fuck outta here

Lord of War!

forgot how hot she was back then

for me it's Kiss of Death

cagekino thread?

He got into financial trouble and had to start getting roles in shit just to pay his bills.
This snowballed into him being considered a bit of a joke and getting even less good scripts.

Nowdays he's just a really prolific indie actor. He still does excelent kino, but it's low budget and he does 6-8 trashfire b movies in between.

what was the point of buscemi's character in con air?

To show that pedos are good guys too.

you can only watch one Cage kino for the rest of your life, what is it?
honestly tough choice between Con Air and Mandy

I've watched this movie 100s of times. Best soundtrack of any movie

The beige Volvo trilogy

Attached: Cage effect.png (660x230, 38K)

not a sequel, they just share the name.
Pretty great actually, Herzog i think made it

holy shit

Damn.

I don't care what Yea Forums says, I loved Mandy.

At the time these movies came out though, only The Rock was considered a great action movie. Face/Off had better critical reviews, and was a decent sized hit, but John Woo wasn't fully translating to general audiences, and Broken Arrow was considered a solid double that should have been a homerun following Pulp Fiction.

Con Air was a meme upon release. People chuckled at the trailers in the theater. Michael Bayism was already a complaint, and Con Air was like the kitchen sink of that tone and aesthetic. I remember people even joking about Simon West being a hack back then.

Of the three, Con Air was the underdog, and it might have aged the best. The Rock unfortunately suffers from wretched set design and production values, it looks like a dungeon porno set in some scenes especially in Blu-Ray. Wish it held up in this regard like Bad Bad 2 still does.

To further put things in perspective, not one of these movies was 1/20 as iconic as Top Gun was in the 80s, and that's relevant because Top Gun pioneered the tone/aesthetic/energy of Simpson/Bruckheimer action blockbusters, and both The Rock and Con Air were Bruckheimer productions.

Face Off = Con Air >> The Rock

Back when minorities were comic relief and usually degenerates/criminals, just like real life

Probably the greatest run of the 90s. Especially counting In Living Color. No comedian has been as huge in middle schools as Jim Carrey during this time. Sandler and Farley were huge, but Carrey was basically discovered by middle graders who made his movies explode at the box office. I remember adults were stunned when Ace Ventura opened because there was a line of kids at the theater.

The Mask was like being on happy dust, it was maybe the perfect SFX crowdpleaser but Dumb & Dumber was a goddamn rock concert the entire running time in the theater. People were choking literally on laughter which made everyone contagiously laugh. I wouldn't be surprised if some people shit themselves during the Sea Bass and flatulence scenes.

no

Con Air and The Rock are movies where if Nic Cage was replaced by some other actor, there's still good chance for the movie to remain as good as it is with Cage. Just imagine the script.
Face/Off is completely carried by Travolta and (mostly) Cage. The movie wouldn't be watchable if it wasn't for them.

Ace Ventura is as funny to me now as it was to me then, but for much different reasons. Truly a classic.

Ace Ventura, D&D, The Mask, his top 3 in that order. Truman Show is Oscar bait.

Snake Eyes is so good

Joe, Lord of War, Vampire's Kiss, Moonstruck, Peggy Sue Got Married

>The Mask
Imagine giving PRIME Cameron Diaz the casting couch treatment. It's a shame this behavior has been so underground for so long, because those men need to have monuments built for them in city centers across the country.

youtube.com/watch?v=1yOjH-bqkys

It IS oscar bait, but even a broken clock is right twice a day. It's a really good movie and he does a great job in it.

>Mexican poster
Ftfy

Oh shit. This.

youtube.com/watch?v=xzewDVXmSII
absolute kino

This might be the only Cage movie I ever saw in the theater. Fucking DePalma is so goddamn good.

>Me, myself and irene
>liar liar
these are good Carrey movies, yet most people shit on them

Bought a dinosaur skull, an island. He basically blew money and coke like Johnny Depp without a Captain Sparrow to level the turbulence. He also lost his hair which became a minor topic in the late 90s, Con Air didn't help hair rumors

Kiss of Death is a must.

>nobody giving love to The Cable Guy

Attached: cableguy.jpg (600x345, 113K)

What is the entry for when Twilight Zone was made?

He was in literally every movie during those years. Of course you can cherry pick a ton of Cage kino. He signs onto literally everything.

Ace Ventura is pretty underrated as a noir. And a based Miami noir at that. It has a gritty but breezy vibe to it. He never did anything similar. The sequel was lame af. When he sold out. How great would a new sequel be made by the guys behind Vice Principals?

Other than the comedic elements still hitting for me, I think the whole noir tone is why I love this movie so much. It's really a standard detective movie, except the guy specializes in animals and is an autismo. Imagine your first starring role movie holding up 20 years later.

Why did Cage and Carrey never star in a 90s buddy picture?

Fully agree. It's The Long Goodbye on nitrous.

What kind of baby doesn't like Mandy

>Lord of War
>Leaving Las Vegas
>Matchstick Men
>Raising Arizona
Peak cage kino

Attached: 1561832809331.png (680x383, 157K)

I really liked the first half but I think it kind of lost it's pacing and direction once he went on his rampage. Fine film overall though.

Cage only took starring roles.

Con Air 85% Nic Cage hair. Without it, itd be shit. Just imagine Jason Statham in that role. 100% garbage. The Rock I'll give you, but the last half Nic Cage and his interactions are a goldmine and elevate that movie.

Most of his movies may be shit, but whenever he's allowed to be crazy, you're in for a good time, and I cant knock him for that. He's fun as fuck

Kiss of Death he's second billing to David Caruso. Rumble Fish he's second or third billing to Matt Dillon. Peggy Sue he's a supporting character.

>Leaving Las Vegas
I've never understood what this movie is about or why it was so praised.

>Kiss of Death he's second billing to David Caruso
That's almost like saying he's second billing to Travolta in Face Off.
>Rumble Fish he's second or third billing to Matt Dillon. Peggy Sue he's a supporting character.
Those are from early in his career and have nothing to do with the context set in the OP.

It was the Lost in Translation of the boomer generation.

The fact that someone here doesn't like it only makes me want to watch it more.

He was the weakest part of all those movies. In The Rock for example he's vastly outclassed by Connery and Ed

gone in 60 seconds

What is it trying to say? Drunks are tragic? Wow. Epiphany. Really makes me drink.

Great take.

The mid 2000s Jessicas (Biel and Alba) are still undefeated as far as I'm concerned.
