Depends on how much pistol you're willing to carry. You need to actually feel the weight. Most people get something too big and then get lazy and don't want to carry.

Where you live is also important. If you live in some desert shithole you probably want a pocket gun like the glock 42 or 43.
If concealment isn't a problem I'd say any polymer 9mm as others have said. Can't really go wrong with a g19 and they are pretty cheap, so if you get more into and graduate to something else or don't like the feel then it isn't some huge loss.

Why is it so common for movie theaters to not have metal detectors? The theaters near me have a singular guard at the entrance where he checks if you paid for your ticket.

The only form of protection is that one person checking purses only and sometimes he/she doesn't even do that. Once you pass the initial ticket checker there won't be a guard in sight
