Why didn't the "talking animals" just CGI themselves out of the dullest remake in the history of movie remakes? NuBeauty and the Beast and other movies have been alright, I’ve watched them with my 4 year old daughter and they’re just meh. I've seen every Disney live-action remake.
The only one which comes close to the original is Aladdin, which was deliberately done quite a bit differently, instead of being a shot-for-shot remake.
All the others lack the sublime quality that makes some kino transcend this plane. They lack VERISIMILITUDE. How ironic that a cartoon feels more alive than a "photorealistic" movie.

CGI is an amazing tool but it's overused because it's too versatile, filmmakers lose focus. People like Fincher are very good at using CGI to it's best potential.
