I think one of the biggest issues that STILL hasn’t been resolved by any of the Spider-Man movies is how witty peter is. He’s awkward, you’re right, but he’s also constantly quipping shit and firing little insults off. Holland-Man talks a lot all the time, but it’s nervous bumbling rambling instead of witty observations or puns. It’s like they took all the quippyness of canon Spider-Man and distilled it into all the other MCU characters while leaving nothing for the second most quippy character in comics himself behind Deadpool.

I mean, Homecoming and Far From Home were fun films but they don't even come close to Spider-man 1 and 2. Genuinely can't comprehend how someone could look at modern Spider-man films and say they are objectively better than the first 2 of the Raimi trilogy.

I remember seeing the Raimi Spider-Man movies in theatres and I fucking hated Tobey Maguire, even as a kid.

The reason why I loved the Spider-Man comics and 90's TV show wasn't just because Peter was a nerd, he was a nerd AND cool, he was very much a power fantasy. Sure he got bullied and treated like shit, but he had a kind of inner swagger he let out as Spider-Man, like there was a part of himself that thought "Yeah, I AM actually the fucking coolest guy ever." It's that conflicting nature of how shy people can actually be incredibly arrogant that Orson Welles talked about.

Maguire had absolutely none of that, he was a total wet blanket and way too much of a whimp. He had none of that inner spark that made Spider-Man cool. That's the part I dislike about many Spider-Man writers, they get so caught up on the "loser superhero" shtick that they forget he's still supposed to be a fucking superhero ie a badass.
