I'm tired of movies bombarding me with out-of-touch idealism and trite superficially positive morals that don't reflect real life struggles in the slightest. ITT: post films that don't rely on cheap optimism, post real films where there is no hope.

Pretty much every slav movie is a trip into nihilistic despair. Loveless by this same director is actually more depressing.
Check Dear Zachary, too. It gives you a bit of hope in the end but by god if you won't lose your faith in humanity by the time you get there.
In the White City
Manchester By The Sea
Is this good?
Basically all of Tarr's films apply to OP's description.
Yes
Oslo 31 August
lot's of Bergman films apply
all of Haneke films
several Kaurismäki films
some others from the top of my head:
Animal Kingdom
The Rover
Wake in Fright
Durak The Fool
Pustina Wasteland
Biutiful
Naked
Meantime
the phillip glass was on the nose
this movie was in general a bit on the nose
based
Manchester by the Sea
why did she kill herself?
she killed the cat and then she carried the stiff cat for fucking 5 minutes through a desolate b/w landscape while Bela was clapping and laughing the whole time with milk coming out of his nose
I watched this in theaters
The only movie I 100% regret seeing, it was so fucking dull
Especially the ending. It's a real gut punch.
It Comes at Night
Say that to my face and not online and see what happens CYKA
Inside Llewyn Davis
lowkey zorba the greek
4 hours of nothing but incresing bleakness in mainland china.
The ost is pretty good too.

>dear zachary
Also: Tyrannasour, awakenings, broken circle breakdown, mary and max and central do brasil
>nihilism
Nihilism is refusing to look human suffering in the eye, i.e. Hollywood garbage. Movies like Jagten and Leviathan are more life affirming than any fantasy shit this board jacks off to.
Eden Lake
fuck that film
Au Hasard isn't "hopeless". It might not be happy-go-lucky, but I wouldn't call it hopeless.
The ending is actually nice.

Really cheap tug-your-heartstrings movie. No better than a Dateline episode. Predictable from the start with a by-the-number coloring book feel.
I looked into it and reviews are all bad
is this dare I say the best film ever made?
Not really, no
Pretty damn good tho
I actually like A Man Escaped more tho
Good Time reminds me of myself
Another bleak gem from the Safdies
Nil by mouth
The breaking of the waves
This film fucked me up.
i saw this on a trans atlantic flight drunk out of my mind and it broke me
This film is so shit
