Honestly if you are a beginner playing with much more experienced players you probably have a bit of an edge, for a little while at least. They will expect you to play a certain way and if you just make random bets you will confuse and frustrate them. Never show you cards unless you have to.

I don't see the problem. Slowrolling is a valid tactic, especially if you flop a near perfect hand. You could bet and act strong, or play meek and get the same result later. He almost certainly wanted to make others appear that they had a better hand than him, and no doubt bet on the turn.
