Adding to this, the manga author liked the band Kansas - so it's the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure style of naming. Might be how he named the bar, and then placed Scrapyard in Kansas City too without looking too closely on the map.

The same naming convention is obvious elsewhere in the manga too, such as the sigil of Cronus being on Zapan's forehead, and one of Alita's bodies being called the "Imaginos" body, both clear references to Blue Öyster Cult.

This was ALL dropped by the movie because world building clearly causes cameron and rodriguez to dry-heave. But I did just save you having to slog through last order.

Unfortunately for their cunning plan, most Russian speaking Ukrainians actually don't want to be Russian citizens. And even with all the problems that Ukraine has, they'd rather stay Ukrainian citizens. Most of the "rebel" leaders come from Russia or even from other third party countries.

They wasted like a quarter of the movie on that crap.
So instead of learning more about the floating city or alita's past we get to see them go on dates and eat chocolate and he turns out to be a semi bad guy with heart of gold at the end (this was done to death so many times before)
Also the motor ball felt exactly like quidich in harry potter, sort of pointless plot filler.
And for a manga adaptation there was wayyyy too much talking and not nearly enough cool cyborg fighting.

It would be nice if they scratched hugo and instead just focused on the father daughter relationship between alita and the doctor

And yes, I know they are setting up a trilogy, but still, it would be nice to answer more questions the movie raised, we learned almost nothing about anything important, just that nova bad, and alita was some elite mars soldier

It seemed, for about a minute, they were trying to go the route of establishing that alita was not a hero and her actions as a berserker were not heroic. But then nova says that shitty “dude watching people die is fun!” line and any potential subtlety goes out the window.

I don't mind shedding a tear or two for a sad scene in a movie, but this was just over the top.
The symbolism was just too in your face.
And the problem is that you just know this is exactly what they went for, they wanted to tug on those tasty tasty emotions.
And it didn't even made that much sense, alita could be swimming in money in mere months by collecting top bounties or winning motor ball and she know it.

Chinese, Taiwanese and Eurofags started organizing private IMAX screenings to "save" the movie or because they liked it so much. One of the IMAX screenings was even organized right here on Yea Forums.
