I started self medicating with weed in high school because I was depressed and no amount of exercise or therapy seemed to help but weed provided an escape from myself. Years later I’d reassess my personal history and realized I had as much head trauma as Homer Simpson and that I probably had CTE (one the symptoms of which is depression). There’s no way to get a diagnosis except post-mortem so I can’t say for sure but I’m pretty sure. I switched weed for lions mane mushroom pills (which have been shown to reduce inflammation in the brain) and I feel way better. Just a PSA for anyone who can relate

Exactly like that. It’s easy to forget that shit is bad for you when it’s so normalized. And then you get so much tau in for brain you just sort of think this is the way things have always been and you get confused why everything seems so much easier for everyone else. I even would tell my therapist about how often I had head trauma and they’d just want to gloss over it like “but what about your relationship with your mother?” And things wouldn’t change and I’d get even more hopelessly depressed
