It was a different time...

Please recommend movies with this kind of relentless tension

Google says around 23k as an average for Jazz musicians.

My favorite scene is when the class is finally able to have that pillow fight towards the end of the movie that fletcher had promised

Oof.

I cant.

Quick, someone post the relentless tension-core chart

They usually have day jobs.

Please. Something that maybe comes close, even

drummer moreso than other jazz instruments because you can dep for pretty much any genre

Piano, bass, guitar you can make a living just with gigs. Horns you can just about get by if you teach as well or if you play in other genres. If you play something like vibes you're fucked

t. semi-pro trumpet player

Attached: 2f7.jpg (601x508, 31K)

My favorite scene is when Fletcher is best man at Neiman and Nicole's wedding.

Yeah that’s even lower than I’d expected desu. To be paid that much for the amount of skill required...yikes

bullshit

most gigs are paid cash in hand so the figures will be over the place. Most musicians teach on the side

No need to be a jerk, user

last third of goodfellas

I’m just jking user :3 but in all seriousness I’d like to see that chart exist.

>I felt so bad about committing assault with that chair that i had to turn myself in. Sometimes friendship is more important than a career.

...fine :p me too though, nothing quite comes close to how this movie ramps up.

>no buddy cop movie with fletcher and neiman going after a rogue saxophone-playing killer

I agree I really went into this movie thinking it would be boring due to the subject matter but the tension doesn’t let up from start to finish. Great film.

niche jobs typically pay pretty well due to lack of competition

Good point

Can only think of Crank really

not neccesarily

there really isn't that much demand for good jazz players. They may be the best musicians on earth but they're not going to fill concert halls like One Direction

there's a reason why many of the great musicians in history died in poverty

huh?

Exactly

HAH

I'm saying even though being a jazz musician is pretty niche it doesn't pay all that well even at the very highest level

I started crying during this scene because it was eerily reminiscent of the way my dad used to berate the shit out of me. Even the way Simmons stomped over was spot on, except in my case it was sports rather than music.

So did you become a great athlete then, faggot?

The skill of a jazz drummer is very marketable. Session drummer in a recording studio, drum technician for a touring band, drum teacher/tutor. Drum technicians can make fucking BANK and they get to go on tour and, depending on the band and their members' age, can even fill in should something happen (drum tech for Kansas has filled in for their drummer before). You clearly know nothing about the music industry.

>I started crying

no wonder your dad had to berate you you little faggot

jk

What a disappointing son you must be.

yeah but drums aren't exactly niche

i feel you user. My dad was the same way except it wasn't about anything in particular, just little random things like walking wrong or looking at him wrong or smiling wrong or tying my shoes wrong, etc.

More niche than journalism or programming.

Capitalize your posts you little shit

I used to date a jazz musician and would hang around a bunch of them for about 2 and a half years.

They all have day jobs. Not a single one i knew could make a living off of their music alone. Even the best ones had jobs, the most common job was teaching. Honestly if you were a decent musician that was even semi-well known you would be able to make enough to live off. Plus a lot of them would do things like music programs at schools etc.

But yeah you have to be autistically passionate about it, practice constantly in your spare time for little reward. Out of all the people id met through my gf only 2 of the people who were in her music program have, to my knowledge, gone to have a tiny bit of "success" (comparatively speaking to everyone else). I knew a female drummer who has been in a few bands now and done quite a few tours and this male guitar player who every girl fucking wet themselves over but was too much of a decent guy to be jealous of. 99% of people just get burned out.

>not quite my post

Dredd

I've already said drums are the most profitable instrument alongside piano

my point is that something being niche doesn't neccesarily make it in demand or profitable

I know some first call pros who really make nothing considering their skill

I sometimes dep for a really high quality big band and there's only one guy in that who makes a living purely on playing

It's a lightning in a bottle type thing. You gotta know the right people and then propel yourself into the industry. If you just stick around guitar center as a sales rep you'll go nowhere.

And yet you still turned out being a fuck-up

Jack shit. Why Andrew was such a cunt because he knew he was a sperg about a gay music genre nobody cares about. Why he got so triggered his cousins were much cooler and ultimately more successful than him.

...what did he mean by this?

this is a very based thread

Unless you're the absolute best of the best, like playing at Lincoln Center best, then not lucrative at all. 99.9% of everyone who does it makes fuck all, and that top 00.1% makes bank. I guess it's sort of like being a pro athlete in one of the big 4 sports. If you're playing Single A baseball, D-league basketball, practice squad NFL, or minor league hockey (idk what that's called I don't watch hockey) then you're making next to nothing. But if you break through into that top 0.1% tier, you'll be rich.

>tfw dad used to make me practice baseball for hours on end and insult me in english and spanish about how much I sucked until I started crying which just made him insult me more

Ay curumba

My Dad was mostly pretty nice, but when it came to helping me with Math and tutoring/pushing me ever since I was young for years, he would really push me. It was good years later I realize (I'm not Asian, I'm white). He'd push me to do problems and memorize shit with him for hours till my brain was fried late at night and I couldn't do any more and I was crying cuz I can't focus anymore.
Very good guy and hard worker though.

>Oh my dear God! Are you one of those single tear people?
Are you one of those people, Yea Forums? We already know one user in this thread is.

You do know the only reason he did that was because he hoped you were his lottery ticket out of his miserable existence, right?

When I played sports I ran into a few kids with similar fathers. They were genuinely willing to jeopordize their kids' lives through excessive training if it meant a chance at having them play professionally and earning tens of millions per year (for their parents).

>You do know the only reason he did that was because he hoped you were his lottery ticket out of his miserable existence, right?
My dad is a doctor, he's been wealthy since before I was born. There was no financial reason for him to push me the way he did.

Then why did he do it? Did you tell him you wanted to play professionally and he just took your word for it and decided that failure was not an option?

>Kids, at the end of the day these collegiate big band competitions don't really matter. All I care about is bringing out the best musician in each and every one of you, and the competition is a goal for you to strive for and work hard towards. My job is to help nurture talent, not win some contest

>Then why did he do it?
I don't know.
>Did you tell him you wanted to play professionally
Sure when I was still in Little League, but doesn't every Little League player say they want to be a pro one day?

Why haven't you asked him?

>but doesn't every Little League player say they want to be a pro one day?
Yeah, but most fathers don't take it seriously. Maybe yours did.

People wonder why birth rates are so low in modernized society when this kind of anti-parent culture exists.

>Why haven't you asked him?
We don't talk anymore. I called him a hypocritical racist because he supports reparations and a black ethnostate even though married a white woman and had 3 half-white kids, we haven't spoken since.

>Yeah, but most fathers don't take it seriously. Maybe yours did.
I think he's just an asshole. God I hate him so much

>anti-parent culture

It's not an anti-parent culture. It's an anti-boomer culture. Because for some reason so fucking many of them utterly failed as parents.

*even though he married

I can see why Raimi passed on this project

the sheet only has their own part, not everyone's.

You’re not as cool as you think you are faggot

Unless you're one of the elite jazz drummers in the world, you can't make money just from jazz. There are other styles and types of gigs you can do though. Many musicians do things like weddings, functions, teach in music schools etc. And even the top level of jazz musicians have to teach, do workshops etc to supplement income from performing. They make a decent living but work extremely hard.

imagine being this much of a brainlet.

My fucking god she's glorious

>DRAGGING!
>But this is jazz so who gives a fuck

>posts a fujoshi gif
Damn how can I be as cool as you, girl

My uncle was a saxophone player at weddings, banquets and other official occasions. He made pretty good money during communistic times in Poland. He earned about four times the normal salary if i remember correctly.

Movie?

How hard could drumming possibly be that you need to push your students to the brink of death for them to be good enough in your eyes?

Well you're correct about many of the greats dying in poverty, but a lot of the modern jazz musicians do stuff like this . The culture has really changed I guess, in the 40s and 50s a lot of jazz musicians were addicts or drunks. Nowadays most of them have their heads screwed on a bit better. A good example is Mark Giuliana.

Panic Room

OZ the tv series

Guys, guys, that's not ~quite my tempo.

that tempo was good enough for your mom bitch

>yep. That’s the tempo. You got it!

Hey, I feel ya man. Had a traumatizing childhood as well. Once you find out that we're ruled by satanists, that enjoy preying on children, not much will surprise you from that point on.

youtu.be/8ObvK4NR_LI

You either find escapism through some hobby or a small lil world you create for yourself, you try to fight the system or you give up.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Thanks

Sort of correct, but there's really only a handful, (probably less than 100?) of jazz musicians who make a living playing music, whereas the NFL, MLB has at least a few hundred. So it's even more exclusive in some ways than major sports leagues.

Yep, good recommendation.

Giuliana is the shit.

It's another one of Aronovsky's preachy art projects but the latter half of Mother! is fucked. Couldn't relax for a second.

Climax

>Jazz drumming
>Lack of competition
Not the case at all, especially with the level he was at in the film. It's extremely competitive to actually make money doing it

If you knew any jazz drummers or musicians in general you would know that those guys clean up in backing bands for homogroups like One Direction

SPIDERMAN WAS IN AN INSIDE JOB
