It's like they took everything I hate about modern movie making and turned it into a movie.

CGI over practical effects, remake for the sake of remake, fetishization of nostalgia, casting distractingly recognizable voices for all the voiceover work, blatant cash-grab, and establishment of a new sort of franchise that will not end until every original Disney animated movie is recast with live action minorities

god i can't even begin to imagine how fucking soulless songs like 'i just can't wait to be king' are in the 'live action' remake. fuck disney, fuck favreau!

I didn't feel shit at this scene desu
Jim's dad leaving in Treasure Planet was much more emotional

its a guilty pleasure because of the kind of shitty 00s song that plays during the montage

>dad leaving in Treasure Planet was much more emotional
t. broken household zoomer mutt

all these movies were designed for animation, literally 0 point at all in making them live action

This why not one likes Treasure Planet "fans".

2d animation is for virgins

furries leave

Almost every scene in the old lion King haf cgi.

Yeah and I put salt and vinegar on my fries but I don't want to drink a whole cup of salt and vinegar.

uncle lion bad

Is that really a better argument for remaking it ENTIRELY out of CGI? Or are you just retarded?

that's gonna be 2 cringes and a yikes from me dawg.

Virtually no other animals convey their emotions through facial expressions. Dunno how Disney thought that'd pan out correctly going live-action.

>Create a non-existent outrage for black mermaid
>People actually think this shit sucks
Loool

Well a reviewer described the new version

>I personally felt nothing during Favreau’s rendering of the Mufasa death scene. Nothing. Actually, that’s a lie. I did laugh a little. The sharp zoom-out of Simba ‘yelling’ “Nooooo,” his small mouth agape with no emotion in his eyes, gave the effect of a well-kept taxidermied animal.

I want to rewatch Shrek

>ChrisEvansLaughing.gif

>Daddy?
>White people got him you betta run simba!
What did they mean by this?

When do they speak, what the fuck is with those expressions and mouths? who the fuck decided this look good and publish it?

I don't get it either. Things were animated in the way they were for a reason. The characters designs reflected their personality, and they were visually distinct from each other.
It's like they've completely forgotten the basics of moviemaking

what's the point of remaking the lion king in cgi?

Well said, it's just a shame seeing this company turn into such a shell of its former self.
They never take any fucking risks anymore and it really shows with these remakes.

>"Favreau himself used this technology to better use in crafting a “new” version of The Jungle Book that was pitched to smart kids. This movie conversely feels aimed at dumb adults."

Attached: 1551063074230.png (650x650, 57K)

actually, disney animation is doing pretty okay. Frozen 2 looks good. it's the live action that's suffering. Marvel at least reprises the endless safety of the comic books it comes from, but Star Wars is disappointing and the live action remakes are soulless garbage

>It's like they've completely forgotten the basics of moviemaking
people who made movies were replaced by people who make money

I can only think about how much I want to throatfuck Simba in this scene when I see it.

Amazing how a movie made nearly a quarter-century ago about a talking pig has better facial animation for its animals than this.
also Babe is the best animal movie ever made

user.
This isn't a live action movie. Those aren't really well trained animals in the shot. Even the environments are largely CGI rather than filmed in the savannah.
This is very much a fully CGI animated film, only with a shit artstyle.

It's worse than you think, they only touch noses and laugh like they're stoned, 0 romance.

>Frozen 2 looks good
It'll be garbage like the first movie

you hit the nail on the head

I watched the Narnia movie again the other week and Aslan wasn't that much worse than this shit made 14 years later - managed to have real emotion in it's face too.

Yeah, sounds about right, it seems every emotional moment in the film has been watered down immensely.

thanks for being pedantic. I'm including it in the LAR category because it's the next logical step after the Jungle Book remake, which had at least one real human. Feel free to put this new Lion King in the same box as Mulan and Hercules, you'll just be retarded

EMOTION IS CRINGE
there I said it

Animals can convey their emotions through facial expressions.

Disney can't.

problem is you can only scam people for so long before you have to move to a new town

This clip shows very well the stupidity of turning an animated movie into "live action". They're just trotting along, since doing any of the imaginative shit from the original would look silly in photorealistic cgi

They should've gone the Rango route

Attached: 1538477618519.png (700x500, 228K)

Shrek 2 is unironically the only good animated sequel ever.

why didn't they just get Jonathan Taylor Thomas to voice simba? He could have used the work.

Did Disney ever explore the folly and naivety of this song when Simba became king? It would have been great if Simba became king and was constantly burdened and under pressure from the stresses of being king juxtapositioned with his unbridled enthusiasm that was so high he actually sung about it. The hyenas were defeated, but what if the elephants decided they were the rightful kings of the jungle? What if the queen/matriarch of the elephants sent forth the mightiest bull male elephant champion to challenge Simba to a trial by combat?

Jesus fucking christ, never going to watch this trash. This is the definition of soulless.

what's the dog smelling that makes him disgusted like that?

King Fu Panda 2

What WAS Simba's tax policy?

>but what if the elephants decided they were the rightful kings of the jungle?

More importantly, what was his miraculous economic recovery program? Was he a Keynesian? Communist? National Socialist?

>takes 30 lions to down one young elephant.

FPBP Disney has lost its way.

So what do you think it's going to be THE woke scene? Probably something with Sarabi and all the lionesses saying "we do the only hunting around here so maybe it should be the Lion Queen am I right?" and then the lionesses go "you go girl" and they soon start singing the new original song "A Pride for Her"

Imagine if they had shown these clips much earlier. At least better now than never. Maybe get it spread around enough for people to cringe and skip it.

No bedroom eyes? Fucking christ LOL

Well sure, cos eyes are the window to the soul. A cgi cat has chinky eyes and we all know bugmen are soulless creatures

>every original Disney animated movie
you realize almost their entire catalog is retold stories right?

This just shits on all those animators who worked on the original, I'd be pissed and embarrassed. This is honestly disrespectful. I'm actually fucking seething.

Try to cope

They're going to absolutely massacre Rafiki
He's the most fluidly moving character in the original and now he's just "generic baboon mannerisms"

I kinda have hope, seeing as how they go for hyperrealism and you have more emotional and soul crushing moments in nature.

Truly soulless.

How long did they fucking work on this?
Avatar had better CG and that shit was 10 years ago

I just want you to know how immensely proud of both of you I am right now

What about the crying cat? And the nervous dog?

elephants are too smart and self sufficient to go into government

>I don't want to drink a whole cup of salt and vinegar
Poof

why are you allowed to bring baby panthers to a public pool? Where is this?

How do you know this is a public pool? It could be the house of some stupidly rich motherfucker, it would explain the pet panther.

It was mufasa bargaining with the gods of rain and food. Based mufasa running the kingdom from beyond the grave. Simba a shit

It's not impossible, but I have no doubt that Nu-Lion King won't recapture the emotion of that scene.

Why the hell did they choose not to have facial expressions at all? I mean, it's a world where animals talk, a little bit of fantasy wouldn't hurt.
Even Narnia that's amost 15 years old does it nicely

Attached: chipper.gif (245x140, 1.23M)

>casting distractingly recognizable voices for voicework

to be fair the issue is they hired shitty politicians and singers and "notable personalities" instead of actors.

compare to the cartoon cast which every single person in the pic has a very distinct and famous voice but they actually have SOME sort of acting range

It's literally not but the way they chose to animate the movie makes it like that, yes.

those stupid fucks should have remade Atlantis or the black cauldron.

The original was garbage and the new one is even more garbage. I wish after scar took over they showed him mating with all the other females. That would have made it better.

That's because when you create Mad Max, you don't half-ass anything else.

Literally watch The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. Aslan emoted just fine in that movie. Disney is either being lazy or being incompetent.

It like they given still from the original film to create the characters and settings but had to reference the animation from a Nat Geo documentary

I work with animals, and cats absolutely have expressions.
Problem is, Disney is cheap and this 'realistic' style let's them save money on rendering exaggerated cartoon expressions which is what people actually expect from a cartoon and is a detriment in no way whatsoever.

sounds like a broadway stage play or something. Jeremy Irons was the fucking shit i love English people

So I assume you aren't one. I hate living in America while unable to pass off an American accent. And then everything that comes out has English actors in it and I hate listening to it.

BASED ironically detached zoomer

It's like watching documentary footage with this song spliced in by a fifth grader. The animals don't show any emotion whatsoever and the music and words feel like they're just projected onto lifeless robots.

I mean, they did a fine job making the R2D2 clone in TFA emote well enough as a side character. But that's a reboot that needs to start a "Star Wars Cinematic Universe tm" and this is a nostalgia cash grab remake that just needs butts in the seats once.

Some review I read likened the hyenas to "MAGA spouting undesirables" or something, so I'm guessing Scar will say something about making the sahara great again (even though the only actually black character).

wait, one of the hyenas was cheech?

are you fucking deaf or just underage?

And their mouths didn't even need to fucking move

That would "feel" cheap to audiences. With the new one they can market the meme celebrities like Beyonce and also make more money off of the new soundtrack sales.

People in the comments like this shit. Insane.

Don't forget Animal Farm. A lot of people thought it was a great kid's movie. A lot of badly misinformed people.

Attached: 1999animalfarm.jpg (326x399, 23K)

jesus, what's with all the negative responses to this comment? I feel exactly the same way, Treasure Planet is unironically underrated kino, Goo Goo Dolls song and everything. This is not bait, so fuck off if you disagree.

This is the truest thing i’ve read on this site for months! Thank you user for putting words on my feeling towards modern movie making

Even normies will not fall for this bullshit. Theyre going to be sitting there in their seats not feeling anything and will start wondering why theyre staring at lions emotionlessly staring at each other and suddenly it will click.
...r-right?

Pretty sure Orwell deliberately intended it to appeal to children before he started redpilling them.

It really looks super weird with animals that are this realistic but have no assholes or genitals.

Like, for fucks sake Disney, most families have dogs or cats, children know how they look like and are aware that they poop.

Thanks for disrespecting the contributions of the hundreds of animators and VFX artists who worked on this movie. This is exactly the perception that Disney's marketting wants people have (they've literally beeen called out for calling it live action).

Jesus fucking christ that's some unbelievable incompetence. Zero emoting, no shot variation, just lifeless mid-shots with nothing happening except animals meandering around like a boring day at the zoo. How can you fuck up someone that should be a fucking gimme this badly? A person with brain damage would have better directing sense than this. It's not even worth comparing to flash animations made by 12 year olds. Even those have more thought and care put into them.

It's all of that, retard. Do you really think Beyonce is capable of decent voice acting?

legitimately good post

This, in real lion prides brothers share the female harem taking turns with each other's sloppy seconds.

Maybe it's the fact that the CGI is so poorly done you can't connect with any of the characters. Maybe it's the fact that every song sounds like a sub par school performance. Maybe it's the fact that it's a soulless remake of an already existing movie? Maybe... its all of those thing retard

>walt disney rolling in his grave

They aren't brothers, not plausible genetically seeing how one has an uniform fur and mane and the other has brighter body fur and dark mane.

About as playful and joyous as a knee to the groin

that's not what the post I replied to is crying about.
the things are mentioned are what actually make a movie good or bad
the hurrrr nostalgia/cgi/minorities old good new bad is just meme complaints you retards are butthurt about because you are uneducated, brain dead contrarians, and not actual criticism of a movie

>n-no it's the bad cgi and songs after all
nice goalpost move

Are you defending a cgi musical that has bad cgi and music?

No I haven't even seen it. It might be actually bad. It probably is since most critics are shitting on it.
But:
a. incels being butthurt about minorities and it being a remake are not the reasons it is bad and
b. the post I originally replied to stated those autistic non-reasons as the one for it being bad, and not the quality of the CGI and songs. therefore: a goalpost move

Heavy photoshops you fucking retard. Have you seen a live animal in your life?

Wait, what?

youtu.be/Fs3bXmPVy-U

>taking turns with each other's sloppy seconds.
I don't know what this means

Milo and Otis is a recut of a Japanese movie called the Adventures of Chataran, the story presented in the English narration barely has anything to do with the story the footage was originally filmed to portray.
It's not LITERALLY a fetish film, but it's absolutely animal abuse, pretty heinous shit too.
They went though like 20 kittens over the course of filming, for one scene a producer broke the kitten's paw to make it walk with a limp.
A scene that was cut from the American version is where they make the pug fight a bear.
An actual fucking bear.

There's no way this movie can create fans. It's utterly soulless and the only way to enjoy it is to be a retarded nostalgiafag. Without the nostalgia, it won't stick with people, so they're literally sacrificing the brand for money.

I agree. It's like Disney is deciding to rush this half baked piece of shit for no reason at all. This is completely baffling

Kids are going to be so bored watching this

I feel like this is the first rl Disney remake that isn't going to be loved by normies. Even people who don't jerk off to 2D animation on a daily basis are noticing the lack of expressions and how much of a downgrade the 'hyper realistic' look really is.

is this the "uncanny valley" effect?

All of those scenes you see in the movie of the animals being in grave danger? They aren't 'movie tricks', they threw multiple kittens off cliffs to make that movie.

No is just pure realism that doesn't work because facial expressions requires faces.

The abuse stuff were merely allegations, there was no abuse in the actual making of the film. Stop believing what youtubers tell you

>facial expressions requires faces
They have faces. Disney just can't into facial expressions.

Did you see that footage of the bear and the pug fighting?
You think the pug enjoyed that experience do you?
Also
>Burn all the evidence
>"It's merery arregations! Stupid gaijin!"
I'm totally convinced that the studio just happened to accidentally lose all their footage and records of production.

>Allegations
Nigga, that is a bear fighting a pug. Not playing, or 'acting', you can tell one of the moments they cut away is when the bear bites the pug's jugular (likely killing it) next cut it's a new pug.

Also, there is no way the long continuous shots of the kitten 'jumping' off the cliffs did not seriously injure or kill the kittens used.

It's actually pretty good, although Rowan Atkinson is better than New Zazu any day.

I believe what I see. What I'm seeing is a pug being thrown around by a fucking bear.

good post

>racist incel culture warrior
kek is this the latest sjw projection

Yeah it is pretty crazy, also the fact that the animators just went "well... that looks pretty good" and went on animating THE ENTIRE FUCKING MOVIE like this, is insane. How the fuck wasn't there ONE person that dared to say "well this looks like shit, lets do it different" ???

>yet youtube commentators are loving this
probably because they received some nice mousebucks

Ahem, boomer coming through
youtube.com/watch?v=_dyUnm-KPFI

The pug and the bear grew up together, they're literally just playing you braindead idiots

WTF. I've always hated that "childhood ruined" bullshit meme, but in this case it's half-true. I loved this movie as a kid. I'll never be able to see it the same way again.

>The pug and the bear grew up together
And you know this... how?
Because the producers said so?

Kids are going to be so bored watching this

this is what happens when jews take over your company.

(and you even knew before hand)

soulless shite

How does disney get away with calling it a live action remake when it's a cg animated movie. Do they do it just so they can get all the technical oscars?

>I know more than the people who actually worked on the movie

>If these people did abuse these animals they would obviously just say so! Why wouldn't they?

calm down incel have sex

This expressionless Simba bouncing around in circles to a happy beat is possibly the most soulless piece of animation I have seen to date.

Also niggers

Source on this? Maybe they are only playing, I can't say I know, but here is nothing "strange" about an 80's movie openly featuring animal abuse/violence. That was fairly normal back then, and I doubt Japan had any laws about it.

Ofc the creators when questioned about it later in a time when such practises are seen as vile, would deny any abuse or killing of animals took place to make the movie.

Many of the stunts you see in that movie, don't seem possible without putting the animals in serious danger.

Here's what we know:
>1. The director was a known animal lover with a huge farm and nearly all the animals in the movie came from there.
>2. Both the studio and the credits of the film claim that no animals were harmed and that it was done with the approval of Japan's humane society.
>3. No one's been able to find any real proof of animal abuse, only hearsay that could very well have been stirred up by crazy animal rights groups
The only I could personally see being true is them wounding a cat's paw so that it would limp. But they shot over 70 hours of footage and the movie shows the cat aging over a long period so it's no surprise that they used 30 cats.

They look like theyre playing, one
Two, the film was shot on an animal preserve. The film was basically co directed by the zoologist who owned it

>food analogy
sasuga, tv

jesus christ
live action was a mistake

Bravo iger

>They look like theyre playing
They absolutely do not.
My neighbours owned a pug when I was growing up, it often played with our dog which was much bigger (German Shepherd)
I never heard that pug make those kinds of paniced noises while play fighting with our dog, it sounds like it's struggling for it's fucking life.

I suppose you have more convenient explanations regarding how they made the cat walk with a limp without hurting it's paw (Note how it keep licking the paw like cats do to injured body parts)
Or how they ensured that the cat wouldn't crack it's fucking skull when they threw it off a cliff and made it climb up the sheer rocky cliff face

>live action
They would've been better off filming real lions than making them in CG

>with the approval of Japan's humane society.
By the admittance on the Japanese humane society there was NO SUPERVISION from their side

No direct supervision, but why would some of their people attach their names to the project? Supposedly some big animal right supporters voiced their support, so all you have to go on here is speculation.

dangerously based

ASOIAF doesn't explain tax policies of different rulers though

>The director was a known animal lover
Who threw kittens off cliffs into the ocean and had one be chased, terrified for its life, while being pecked and swarmed by big seagulls.

I'm morbidly curious what they're going to do with this scene. There is nothing they can do that wouldn't be a train wreck without outright changing it to something completely different.

The voice acting is atrocious. There is no emotion in the delivery of the lines.

But that's not Oliver & Company.

your waifu pillow

Imagine being this sóy

It was said long ago it was cut

What would be wrong with this? I don't find it self-evident, is the sort of imagery that makes sense to associate with Scar given he prepares for a Coup.

Jungle book sucked too

There was no emotion in this scene in the first place you estrogen filled faggot.

fpbp

I'm actually angry knowing this pile of shit is going to rake in over $1B like it's fucking nothing. This is unbelievable. Like watching a tarted up Animal Soccer World.

>Like watching a tarted up Animal Soccer World.
That's an insult to Animal Soccer World.
Animal Soccer World is screamingly hilarious, the first time I watched it I laughed so hard and so long I probably put myself at danger for oxygen deprivation.
Animal Soccer World is utter shit, but it still added something.
This is literally nothing. It might as well not exist, it has zero value to anyone.

jesus christ anons, what have you gotten me into?

It's AMAZING

Live Action animals can emote better than this.
