For some reason I got a recommendation for the opening scene of Nemesis where the Romulan senate is killed. They have a tiny room with about 20 supposedly paranoid Romulan senators, none of whom bat an eyelid when the traitor senator exits, leaving behind an obvious bomb on top of the desk in full view of everyone. The bomb takes around 30 seconds to activate and they all stand around staring at the pretty lights instead of running for the exits. that's a hard thing, TNG and TOS are vastly superior, but VOY and DS9 have their own different stories to tell, and there's a lot to like in both of them.

DS9 is good, though its a slow-starter since it only really finds itself about 3 seasons in. VOY has less to work with, but it does do a number of episodes pretty well. its not unwatchable trash ( most of the time) but its not fantastic a lot of the time either.

Starfleet really fucking hated the macquis, so they overlooked his excessive force since the cardies liked it and it got rid of them.

Worf's sole purpose for existence in the Roddenberry seasons (1-2) is to be the relic of the violent past that gets BTFO by superior Federation morality. Once TNG proper starts (S3+) he develops more as a character and gets quite a few wins. In fact his arc ends up becoming the most complex short of Picard himself once you stitch together TNG and DS9 (though DS9 admittedly has a few stinker Worf episodes as well), but the ultimate climax makes it all the worth it.

It's kind of important to know the whole course of events since the finale doesn't really have much impact without it.

Worf is an interesting character (once he's developed), because he's in a way simultaneously the best Klingon and the worst Klingon. He was raised as a war orphan by humans, so most of what he knows about being Klingon is an idealization based on the histories, legends, and traditions of his people. But we quickly find out that most Klingons are far from ideal, and that the legendary Klingon "honor" is just a convenience for most, even at the top of the hierarchy, easily discarded when it suits their purposes. Worf is stodgy and antisocial and has a lot of trouble interacting with other Klingons, who have far more diverse and varied personalities. Yet it's because of these qualities that he somehow remains as a hidden inner conscience to his people. His Klingon idealism that is laughed at by most becomes a foundation that allows him to, when they are at their very lowest and teetering on the brink of collapse, ultimately save the Empire and restore its honor.

The marquis overplayed their hand. They really should have just got the fuck out of the DMZ when the Cardies starting shitting on them. At most they should have forced the federation into a treaty that would see them given a zone of the Federation that would remain under individual plantetary freedom while being protected by the Federation.
The cardies would have seen the marquis as a federation backed rebellion against their planets as a proxy war and responded to that threat.
