The very selective dubbing choices was just strange in general. Obviously they wanted a docudrama-style where not everything is directly translated for the audience, but there's a lot of important stuff on screen that's not addressed at all, while the scenes they dubbed are mostly inconsequential.

I wouldn't make a stand alone film, I would make a follow-up in the Showa timeline taking place in the current day. Destroy All Monsters took place in 2000, so the monsters would be aged up by 20 years.

Godzilla and other monsters would have had a relatively peaceful 20 years at Monster Island. Some sort of nuclear catastrophe happens, radiation spreads to monster island. Monsters increase from Showa size of 50ish meters to about 80ish meters.

Godzilla would be the hero he was from 70's era, but with a suit that's a cross between something like Heisei a mix of Showa in terms of face, but he's need a final wars esque body.

Cue multiple fights where Godzilla teams up with Angirus , Rodan and the new Mothra's at one point, but there would need to be a strong villain. Maybe an upgraded mechagodzilla and a new alien villain. I remember an abandoned 80's script where mechagodzilla was an alien entity that evolved to simulate the Apex creature of the planet maybe a new creature like that, but maybe it also takes aspects of Rodan, Anguirus, etc. until it settles of Godzilla. Maybe minila could have grown to a point where he has a good fight.

Who did it better?

Godzilla's theme holds up better but I prefer Kong's theme, though that probably has to do witht he fact that I rewatched King Kong like 100 times as a kid

That scene really disturbed me. What makes Gojira stand out is how it presented a giant monster’s rampage. It’s absolutely horrifying.

Godzilla has better music (seriously hiring composers like Ifukube was the equivalent of having someone like Beethoven), Kong has better poster. One of the only such movies made in the 30s and it's perfect for its decade. Art Deco back when it was something fresh, when New York had two brand new skyscrappers build in this style.

I'm learning basics of Japanese (just so I can generally communicate and understand Japanese speech) and while I don't want to focus on the writing systems I'm a little confused that Godzilla and other monster names are always written in katakana that's usually used for foreign words. Isn't Gojira derived from normal Japanese words?
