The special effects suck totally unwatchable.
I was born in the early 90's and I'm going to see The Bridge on the River Kwai in 4k on the big screen this weekend.
Because they are boring and have no entertainment value now a days. The last old movie i watched was after dark and that shit was a complete slog. Hepburn's pretty but that wasn't enough.
Wait until dark*
>watch a film made before the 1980's
>everyone is white
You all are missing out
Most of them are bad and tryhards just worship them because time has passed.
The good ones like Sunrise or M if anything are more appreciated these days.
For example Batman v Superman trumps Bogarts entire legacy but is too new to be appreciated.
I saw blue velvet yesterday and jerked off to it
Because millennials and zoomers are all faggots
can confirm
This. Classic films of Bogart, Wayne, Gable etc or directors like Ford and Hawks are simply too based and masculine for snowflakes of pussy generation.
I wish we had another world war so this country would be completely depopulated.
They have ADHD
>Batman v Superman
Gr8 b8 m8.
Man of a Thousand Faces was pretty good.
It's mostly about pacing and style. Classic films are usually shot with little coverage, so there are only few angles. The camera is not that kinetic and the editing is not that rapid since the directors actually know what they are shooting. Look at John Ford, he shot 1-2 takes of everything and look at the result. That's a director. Now look at Fincher, 100 takes of everything and 0 of his films can compare to the sheer mastery of Ford's films.
im fucking doing this!
You need to read the book first.
But I do.
why garbage streaming site
You are in for a great film.
>Batman v Superman
>Better than Casablanca, The Maltese Falcon, The Caine Mutiny, The African Queen, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, The Big Sleep, In a Lonely Place
Unironically kys
I think John Ford shot a small number of takes as he wasn't always able to supervise editing (which was standard in Hollywood then), and the more limited the footage the more the editor was forced to edit the way Ford wanted it.
Jesus christ I hate that furry
Nice blog. How do I upvote?
Probably for the same reason that you don't watch many contemporary arthouse films. Neither of you have taste, or appreciate good character drama. You simply fetishize the past.
To have and have not is great though.
You are so wrong about that. I watch also contemporary arthouse films as well as classics. I watch everything from silent films to experimental cinema.
Why OP cant speak english
Making my way through
>this is 10 in boomers
Their conditioning has given them a built-in resistance against the highbrow camp that exudes from classic Hollywood. As such, they are of the naive belief that the only movies worth watching and with substance are faux-serious ones a la Tarkovsky and Dreyer (exemplified by )
or movies like Leone’s westerns, which are “fun” and campy but in a non-threatening Reddit sense. “How can I take this movie seriously if there’s no long takes or extreme close-ups?”
tl;dr it’s because they’re ignorant children
>watch The Philadelphia Story
>fall in love with Kat Hepburn
>check other flicks
>see that she made one of those Pro-IR films where her IRL niece gets niggered
Hollywood's always been degenerate. And to answer your question, they're boring at this point. Same with "muh deep arthouse". I don't have time for this shit, I have things to do. It doesn't mean I'll binge F&F, it just means I'll watch Mad Men in the course of a year.
I doubt many zoomers watch Tarkovsky and Dreyer.
downtown, walking fast
>watch a film made before the 1980's
>everyone is black and white
ftfy
I was born in '97 and my top 3 movies are Paths of Glory, The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1939) and Small Soldiers
t. millennials
What are some good classic comedies made before 1970?
bump
Some Like It Hot (1959)
really progressive, has transgenders and such
>dude a24 and cannes film festical lmao
Just marathoned last 17 minutes of it. It was fun.
I'll probably make a thread about Red Dust (1932) later today.
The Big Sleep is better
ugh they are so slow on boring. What do you mean there's no fight scene?
Dreyer is in no way "faux-serious". His movies have quite a bit of subtle humor in them
Give me a fucking break
nice, i watched red-headed woman the other month and i enjoyed it
I remember how my mother would always change the channel when a black and white movie was on TV. Never got to watch one with her in the same room. I guess she had a weird hatred towards old movies? Kind of weird since she is a boomer.
Kek, what a bitch
I watched the house on haunted hill with the kids last month they loved it thought it was spooky
It's this. I mean most of them are too spoiled to even torrent stuff, they gotta have it NOW so they fall for the streaming meme. And the current movies are complicit, restraint and build-up are almost non-existant. Add in the fact that most scriptwriters now practice "no viewer left behind" when it comes to exposition and you've got a generation that can't handle anything that requires even basic levels of concentration.
Yeah a lot of them are boring and lot of the same plots.
You mean an MCU flick?
*sips* gone with the wind, now THAT was a movie
These "people" are what /pol/ has brought to this board.
Thanks alot, dickheads
Just watch any Buster Keaton film, they're funny as fuck, have really impressive stunt work and studying them is a great way to learn about the medium.
I've only ever seen the first 2 ironman movies so I wouldn't know
I'm not from /pol/ , they would hate me the moment I said my opinion there.
I don't mean you are from /pol/, I'm just saying that /pol/'s constant rampage throughout the internet in 2016 caused normalfags like you to flood the board/
Just leave this board and go to a site like Reddit, I don't mean this as an insult, just as advice.
have sex
read the book but haven't watched the film
This is exactly why no one likes you, you constantly make garbage posts like this and drown out actual discussion.
Now I know you're just going to say "le teevee is for shitpostin!", it didn't use to be like that. This board was a great place to discuss film, you didn't have any pre-established reputation due to an account so you didn't have some faggot complaining to you about a post you made 3 years ago,you also didn't have to hold back with what you were saying and could call people "niggers" or "faggots" (while that still happens today, it's been completely politicized and now hold a completely different meaning in the site's culture)
Films age terribly
The writing is terrible, the acting is based on theatre acting, the scores are terrible plots are rudimentary. At least sometimes there is nice photography but for the most part film is a medium very susceptible to degradation over time.
Not really, films nowadays suck ass.
This is great, I think OP is talking about even older films
Interesting
>nice, i watched red-headed woman the other month and i enjoyed it
Might check that out
Thanks!
Old movies are fucking based
On a technical level, the good ones look even better than contemporary films
The book 7 pillars of wisdom is 1000x better than film. Still a nice film though
Mmmm depends, that lighting is ridiculous and it looks like it’s a play that’s just been filmed
>Why millenials and zoomers don't watch and appreciate great classic films?
Because OLD films are boring and are mainly in black and white. They are also racist too. Most of them are all about hetrosexual angry white men. Nobody was allowed to be gay or non-white back then. Old movies should be burnt for being offensive to todays modern audience.
Any Lubitsch flick, To Be Or Not To Be especially
Bringing Up Baby
The Lady Eve
It's still extremely impressive because he knew what and how to shoot it. Look at The Searchers, there are very few close-ups in the film. Look at when he uses close-ups. There is a precision in that. Also i don't know if what you are saying is true. The film My Darling Clementine was screened and Fox executives thought that cut was too long. That was Ford's cut. They then shortened it.
He’s a retard because you’re supposed to judge it with the time it came out taken into consideration.
OP, we don’t watch them because they’re boring as our generation has different expectations for films.
Any other pretentious take on this question is hot garbage.
They don't understand black and white.
>you’re supposed to judge it with the time it came out taken into consideration
Nobody does this with great literature. Your "art form" is not art if it needs a qualifier like this.
the oldest films I watched are from the 1960s and they are still very watchable and do many things even better than modern films. Not really interested in anything before that though
>For example Batman v Superman trumps Bogarts entire legacy but is too new to be appreciated.
I really hope this is shitposting
