both prometheus and covenant carry nice themes and imagery and even good to great acting for the most part, but they fail as movies
not really because of the alien shove in but the way most of the characters act
I'm sure it was possible to make some plot points without everyone going full retard at all times

A bit of bullshit we've just had to put up with ever since the first Alien film. Apparently bioengineering can accomplish miracles like bodymass multiplying by dozens in minutes without even needing food.

Face it, alien was good due to Giger, the original writer and some of the other production crew. Ridley has no idea what he's doing or how the story is meant to go.

My guess is that Ridley wanted to make a continuation of Prometheus but the studio said fuck that and then said maybe - if you do it as an Alien movie, and then made Covenant with lots of restrictions on it that moved the really interesting shit only incrementally forward.

It also shat on prometheus, which had a setup for an interesting sequel.

I enjoyed Prometheus and Covenant. They're not perfect, but I appreciated the focus on building up the Alien universe as opposed to just rehashing the first two movies. It's clear Ridley wanted to continue the story of Prometheus but the studio forced in the xenos. I don't know what anyone wants out of the franchise honestly.
